Seoul in mid-may is a comfortable 23 degrees Celsius. In my world, that translates to perfect soccer weather. It’s hard to concentrate on school work when the teachers leave the windows open in class, giving me the perfect view of the school’s soccer field outside. I could see my brother, well, adoptive brother, out on the field with a few of his friends. I was pretty sure that Minseok had biology this period, so I knew he must have skipped.

“Kim Hyojung. Ya, Miss Kim!”

Suddenly, I wished that I had skipped class too.

“Yes, Professor Choi?” I answered meekly, trying to pretend like I had just been stretching my neck.

“Please tell me how to find the interval of convergence for this taylor series, Miss Kim.” Professor Choi’s gaze cut through me and I gulped, because I had no idea where to even start with the math problem she had on the board.

“Uh...”

Professor Choi’s lips tightened into a thin line. “Maybe, Miss Kim, you should face me instead of the window from now on.”

There was a smattering of nervous giggling from the class and I ducked my head down, dropping my gaze to my Calculus book instead.

With an audible sigh, Professor Choi turned back to the lesson.

I proceeded to bury my face in my book. Outside, I heard the faint sounds of Minseok’s best friend, Jongdae, whooping.

Suddenly, I felt a tap on the back of my hand and I looked up to see the guy sitting in front of me, Chanyeol, peeking over his shoulder. His eyes were sparkling with laughter, and he casually tossed a note onto my desk.

When I looked up again, Chanyeol was grinning at me.

Rolling my eyes, I flipped the note over and picked up a pen.

I have a soccer match after school and I can’t play if I’m absent for a class  :( raincheck?

Chanyeol gave me a pout upon reading that but nodded, winking at me, before turning back to the front.

Park Chanyeol was well known at this school, mostly due to his height, loud voice, and outgoing personality. He’s on the basketball team at school and is quite popular. I’ve known him for almost a year, and we’ve been flirting for most of that time. It was nothing serious; Chanyeol was a really funny guy to hang out with and we get along well, so I liked spending time around him.

Much to my relief, the bell for the end of the lesson rang before long, and I managed to hurriedly shove all my pens into my pencil case before a hand on my arm stopped me.

“Good luck for your match tomorrow, Hyojung.”

I looked up from my backpack to see Chanyeol’s usual goodnatured grin.
