CHAPTER 4

Class Divisions

CHAPTER FOUR : MORE THAN JUST A PERFORMANCE

For the next two and a half weeks, eveything was same old same old. The only thing that scared me is that I have heard nothing of Son Naeun for a while. I can tell she is not the type to give up, but I do not know if sshe is the type to go to any extremes to get her way.

Park Chanyeol tried getting closer to me as I had just recently noticed his presence in some(more like many) of my classes. He would come up and make the effort to talk with me. Though I just sat silent and tried giving him the cold shoulder, he would continue to try and make conversation. Seriously, does this guy not know how to take a hint?

The weird, and worst part is that everytime he would just pop in front of me, I felt a little smile appear on my face until I forcely wiped it off and turned it back to my stoic expression. GOD! Why is this guy so irking?!?!  Ugh, why the does my chest feel so weird when around this dork?! GOD, WHAT’S HAPPENING TO ME!!!

The play was soon, in about 1 day soon, and the play and actors were just about ready to perform. Everything was pretty much set as everyone was well prepared and knew their lines quite well. On the last day of rehearsal we were able to get through the whole play with no trouble.

“Alright! Good work, everyone!! Tomorrow is the day of the play and I’m quite confident that you will all do well! You have all worked very hard, so rest up and I’ll see you all tomorrow!!” The director announced. Everyone started to undress from their constumes as we all started to change back into our usual uniforms.

I was already done as the other girls were still getting out of their dresses and chatting at the same time.

I left the backstage changing rooms/area for the girls as I slung my bag over my shoulder and began to head out until I heard…“Hey!! Jinheeeee, wait up!!” Ugh. Park Chanyeol.

I looked back and saw him rushing to catch up with me as he was trying to tie his shoe and run to me. Pft. I couldn’t help but smile to myself a little at his stupidity. Really, what is up with this guy? I felt like no matter how many times I ask that, I won’t get an answer. “What?” I asked.

“Walking back to the dorms?”

“Uh, well that is where I’m staying.”

“Then lets go somewhere else.” He smiled. God, that smile; it’s looks so damn goofy and dorky but yet cute. Wait. What am I thinking?!

“Where…” I asked cautiously. He just smiled at me and grabbed my wrist  and dragged me to who knows where. God, I hope I don’t regret dragging me away…I REALLY hope…

“HERE WE ARE~~” He announced as he released my wrist and held his arms in the air.

“Where?” I looked around and just saw darkness. No, I’m not blind or anything, the lights were just off.

“Oops. Hehe.” I heard Chanyeol laugh.

“What are you up to-” But I was cut off by a surprising flash of blinding lights. “WHAT THE!” I shielded my eyes from the light until they were able to adjust to the surprising brightness. When I reopened my eyes, my jaw dropped. What was before me was a beautiful sight.

What was before me was the average greenhouse that barely anyone came to anymore and I believed that the plants were already all withered away. I had tried to take care of them before, but I am no miracle worker…or any great plant care-taker… But the sight before me was gorgeous. Though it was around the fall time, many plants were in bloom. There were beautful vines wrapped around the pillars that held up the cieling and some roses were in bloom. The sight surprised me so much as I just did a whole 360 to see it all. But, even then I wasn’t able to take it all in. It was too much. It was too great. The glass windows showed the outer sunsetting sky as it only added to the beauty that was within the greenhouse.

“Like it?” I heard Chanyeol chuckled as he was probably just watching me spin around the greenhouse as though I was in a fairytale.

“Love it.” I simple stated with a wide smile on my face, I couldn’t contain my happiness with the scene around me.

“Surprised?”

“Very. How did you do this?” I asked, truly curious.

“Haha, just takes time and effort.” He stated as he gently picked up and rose on it’s vine and looked at it lovingly. My eyes softened as I just stared at him in amazement. I actually never thought someone like Chanyeol would ever think of taking care of some plants.

“And, I never thought you were so girly, Ms. Disciplinary Head.” He laughed. I just gave him a teasing glare.

“Says the girl that took care of all these flowers and took the time to put up all the lights and practically fix the whole greenhouse.” I retorted.

“HEY! I only did this for you!” He shot back, but I guess he didn’t meant to as he covered his mouth once his words were out.

“You..did this for me?” I asked. He just looked away and blushed badly, not responding. That warm feeling in my chest started up again as I smiled a little to myself. I walked up to him and whispered a low “Thank you” before enveloping my arms around his torso. I felt him tense up for a second from shock then ease into it. We stayed like that for what seemed like eternity, before we decided to head back to our respected dorm rooms.

The night of the play was here and everyone was rushing to get ready.

I could tell the director was quite stressed out himself as he kept pacing back and forth. “Okay, places everyone! We have all worked very hard, now it’s time to not blow it.” Wow, what a great inspirational, and not at all pressuring, speech.

I was already dressed up with my hair done in a weird braid that I myself could never do or ever tell what the girl did. But, I have to admit it looked pretty awesome. Make up felt caked on my face, but the person that did my make up said I needed a lot cause otherwise I would be washed out under the stage lights, whatever that means.

As the play was just a couple minutes away from starting a girl called me over for some help. Looking at the clock I had some time to spare so I rushed over to help her out. She looked like one of the students from the Literature class, she was quite short but looked like she would be a novelist or maybe a poet. Maybe she was just helping out with the set up and all.

“Can you please get the bucket on top for me? I can’t reach it.” She asked. I just shrugged a sure as I reached up for it. It was a bit high for me, but as I stood on my toes I was able to push it over the side and get it.

I held it in my hands and as I was about to give it to her, she shut the door on me as I heard a click from a the outside. Oh crap. I banged on the door and ordered her to let me out.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Please forgive me, Jinhee, I really don’t have anything against you. B-but, Naeun said if I helped her get the part then she would stop bullying me about my appearance and let me hang out with the Performers. I’m really sorry, Jinhee. I’ll be back after the play.” She said, I heard some sobs from the other side of the door. Was this girl crying? Naeun, what the have you done to a poor girl!? Making her do your dirty work for you, that’s in’ low! What a coward.

“LET ME OUT!! PLEASE!!! ANYBODY!! HELPPPP!!!!” I kept banging on the door but it was no use as I heard the girl walk away. Well, . What am I gonna do now?!

CHANYEOL’S POV

I was already dressed up in my first scene attire as I was looking around for Jinhee. I wonder where she went? I’m sure I just saw her a second ago. She’s gonna be late for the first scene if she doesn’t hurry.

“Chaannniiiieeee opppaa~~” I looked to my side and saw Naeun come running to me with her hair all done up and in what looked like the back-up dress for the Juliet part. What the ?

“What.” I simply asked, really not in the mood for this girl at the moment.

“Aww, don’t be cold. Especially since we’re gonna be going on together soon.” She winked at me as she gripped onto my arm. I tried to cooly slide out of her grip but she was holding on too tightly. Wow.

“What do you mean? Where’s Jinhee?” I asked sincerely worried.

“She went back early. She was feeling a little bit of stage fright and was too nervous to go on. Poor thing, that’s what happens to amateurs, I guess.” She faked sadness and I could see her giggle a little to herself.

“What did you do-” But, I was cut off as the director called out “PLACES EVERYONE.”

“Well, I’ll see you on stage, Channie~~” She let go of my arm and blew me an air kiss with a sickeningly sweet wink. I just shivered under her gaze. But, nonetheless, I went to my spot on stage. And as the curtains rose up, the play began.

YOUR POV

“PLEASE HELP!! Pleasse helpp…” I was loosing strength as I kept repeatedly banging on the door. But, I feared no one could hear me nor was anyone coming. I could tell the play probably already started and was more than half way done.

I dropped to my knees as I gently kept banging on the door, probably leaving some bruises on my arms, but I didn’t care for that at the moment. For some reason my mind was too occupied with the thought of that dork Chanyeol. God, he is probably performing with Naeun.

“UGH!!” I banged on the hard wooden door once more before tears started to form in my eyes. I have always been strong and tried to hold back any tears, in fear of showing weakness; but, for once, I didn’t care. I didn’t care if I cried out to the world or sobbed like a baby. I just don’t care anymore. I’ve been holding it in too much. So I let out my loud wails as tears dripped down my cheek. I rubbed my eyes with my hands as I cried out louder and louder.

It hurts so much.

CHANYEOL’S POV

We were taking a break as it was already a little towards the end of the play. We were taking a couple minute break for the audience to go stretch and walk around, as the actors and set up people got ready for the transition of the last scene.

I decided to take a walk for a minute just to clear my mind (and escape Naeun). This whole time I’ve been thinking of Jinhee. Is she alright? What happened to her? I don’t trust Naeun’s words, but could it be Jinhee really nervoused out? No, can’t be. That’s not like Jinhee. I know Jinhee and she would never give up.

As I was walking back to the set I heard sobs coming from nearby. What the? I tried to listen closer and the noise led me to the janitor’s closet.

I knocked on the door, “Excuse me, is there someone in there?”

YOUR POV

I heard a couple knocks on the door. I stopped my sobbing for a second as a voice followed suit. “Excuse me, is there someone in there?” CHANYEOL!

“CHANYEOL! IT’S ME, JINHEE!! PLEASE HELP!!” I regained energy and began to bang on the door again.

“Jinhee?! What happened?!”

“I’ll tell you later! Just help me out!” I told him. In a second he was able to unlock the door and open it. And in the next second I latched myself around his torso. I started to sob on his costume as I let out little wails and began to hiccup. I could tell he was surprised as he just tensed up then calm down. He patted my head and  kneed down to my level. I let go of his waist as I tried to rub away the tears from my eyes.

I could see him smiling softly to me a little as he gently pat me on the head, then he brought me into a hug and patted me on the back.

“It’s okay, Jinhee. I’m here. Don’t worry. Calm down” He tried comforting me as I just held onto his tightly.

After a minute, my crying stopped and he was rubbing some stray tears from my eyes as he then helped me up to my feet.

What happened next surprised me as much as it surprised him as I hugged him and muttered a “Thank you, my prince.” Before letting go and giving him a smile.

“Anytime, princess. C’mon, it’s already the ending. And I want to “die” with my real love.” He winked.

“What?” I asked him to clarify but he just teasingly stuck his tongue out at me as he dragged me to get my make-up redone (thank God for water-proof make up that not much needed to be done).

As the curtains raised up, Chanyeol and I stood in the spot light together automatically getting into character. I could see Naeun fume a little to herself in confusion from the side of the stage. I just inwardly smiled to myself at her little hissy fit before getting back into character and reciting my lines.

The final kiss scene came and as planned, my hair covered both of our faces as we got in close to one another to create the illusion of us kissing. Then, I took the prop dagger, recited my lines, and died.

“GREAT JOB, EVERYONE!!!” The director congradulated all of us on our performance without any trouble…errr…without much trouble…errr…wait, without anything happening that would ruin the entire set really.

As everyone was cheering and celebrating with the food and drinks bought by the director for a job well done; Chanyeol came over to me and grabbed my wrist as he pulled me to a somewhat secluded place.

“I never got my kiss.” He said cheekily. What a brat.

“There never was one, genius.” I said as I poked his forehead as his face got in real close.

“But the script called for one.” He replied getting in close.

“But the stage direction called for no actual kiss.” I retorted.

“Ah, but that is where you are wrong, my little Juliet, as the direction did call for a kiss but I was cheated out of any actual contact. Meaning, that you owe me a kiss.” He said as he wrapped his arms around my waist and put our foreheads together.

“Ya’know, Park Chanyeol, you could just ask for a kiss instead of having to go through all the trouble of trying to make it more complicated than it should be.” I smirked.

“Ah, you are too smart for me, Lee Jinhee.”

“Flattery will get you no where.”

“Really? Wanna bet?” He asked as he came in closer to my face. And as our lips were about a centimeter apart we were interrupted by screams and shreiks of detest. We looked to our side and saw some of the girls from the play and some that just came to watch the play looking right at us with looks of disgust and anger. Well, mainly they were looking at me with disgust and the “almost” kiss with anger.

“JINHEE!! DON’T TOUCH OUR KING!!” And as the angry stampeed started to charge at us, Chanyeol hooked one of his arms behind my knees and the other behind my back as he picked me up and started to run.

“Ruined moment again, huh?” He said as we ran through the school halls as he was still carrying me bridal style.

“Maybe next time.” I told him.

“Ah, so there will be a next time?” He hinted as he wiggled his eyebrows at me like a damn player.

“Haha, definitely not with that attiude, Romeo.” I retorted as I was holding onto his neck.

“Hah, you should know, Juliet, that I always get my way.” He stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

“Hmm, we’ll see about that.” I stated as we both just laughed to ourselves not minding the pack of crazed fangirls running after the two of us. At that moment we were in our own world, not caring of anyone around us.

No one and nothing could ruin this moment. As it was indeed the first of many.
