We are not werewolves – not in the way legends portray us. We are born human, we grow up human, and most of us die human. Becoming an adult however, is a kick in the teeth. Every one of us has an epiphany about ourselves and suddenly everything starts to change. We know it's coming because our senses skyrocket and it's only weeks after that we stop being human. Our bodies forcibly transform themselves in to a canine form from which we cannot recover, not on our own. Finding our mate is the only thing that releases us and once we are together it becomes a gift of transformation. Until we find them however, we wander the world, often alone, ageless. This is not to say we cannot die. We can be shot and killed whether a bullet is silver or not. We can suffocate. We can drown.

And most tragically, we can die of broken hearts.
