Yixing savoured the feeling of your soft lips, frowning when your lips parted from his. The kiss had ended far too soon for him, but he didn’t dare try to steal another. He figured he was already asking too much of her. You wouldn’t look at him. He felt guilty, had he pushed the boundary too far?

“I’m sorry I shouldn’t have asked that of you”

“It’s ok”

“No, it’s not, I -”

“Yixing I wanted to kiss you”

Yixing was lost for words.

“Ever since that night in the park I’ve wanted to kiss you again, and it’s not just that, over the past two weeks I’ve…I… Yixing I love you”

Yixing’s eyes widened, “B-but what about Baekhyun”

There was a pained expression in your eyes.

Your mind raced. What would you tell him? Your heart wrenched; you should’ve just left him alone in the first place. You knew you still loved Baekhyun, but you also knew that you loved Yixing

“I do still love him” you said softly

You couldn’t look him in the eye. What must he think of you? You were unfaithful. You had kept Baekhyun waiting 2 years. And you had fallen for another in two weeks.

“But you love me as well?”

You look up, seeing his hopeful eyes boring into you. There was no use lying now. You nod slowly and see his eyes light up.

“The other stars would laugh at me for falling in love with a human” he whispered, “But it’s so easy to see how bright someone else is shining when you aren’t blinded by your own light” He smiles softly

“So you only love me because I have starlight?” you ask, feeling disappointed

He laughs, “No, of course not. I’ve watched you from the skies for over a year. At first I was jealous of you, for having starlight when I’d lost mine. But the more I watched you the more I saw how dedicated you were to changing for the ones you love. Where I come from you only try to get your starlight back to be accepted, not for love, not for anyone else but yourself. But you wanted to change for them. That’s what I fell in love with.”

You blushed and stared in awe. How could someone so perfect fall in love with you, just watching you?

“I -” you began, before something occurred to you, “wait, how long have you watched me?”

“Oh! Uh, well, it wasn’t all the time, but…a little over a year” he said bashfully, “I told you when I first met you; I’ve been waiting a long time”

You laugh, “No kidding”

He smiles

“Do they really shun you for not having starlight?” you ask tentatively

He nods sadly, “It’s our job to light up the night sky while the sun sleeps. It’s common belief for us to see the moon as useless, having such a dull glow. And losing your starlight, stars will say you have become as cold and dark as the moon. But in all honestly, it isn’t that bad, it would be perfectly fine if it weren’t for the other stars.” He trailed off, his mind obviously lost in the past

“I used to dance up there every night with the others” he sighed

“I bet you were awesome” you try cheering him up

He laughs and nods, smiling to himself.

“Is there anyone you miss?” you ask softly

“It’s hard to miss them when they turn their back on you”

You frown at his response and take his hand in your own

“Hey, you still got me. It’s not much but -”

“No. That means everything to me” he says, eyes meeting yours

You feel him pull his hand out of yours, “I wish I could accept your heart, that I could keep you for my own. But I can’t steal you from someone else; I couldn’t possibly make you choose between us. You deserve another human, to love and understand you”

You shake your head at him

“But I -” you bite your tongue. You couldn’t ask him to stay with you and hurt him by still loving Baek.

He smiles at you knowingly, and leans in to kiss your cheek before standing.

“I’m going for a walk” he said

“You’ll come back won’t you?”

“Of course”

and with that you watched his retreating figure, listening for the click of the door as he left
