The hospital room was deadly silent. The only sounds that could be heard were the small ‘beep’s that came from the heart monitor.

Two eyes – one green and one brown- had curiously glanced at the two figures outside the room’s glass door.

The petite figure shifted around her uncomfortable mattress and she wondered what terrible thing she did in her past life to deserve such a cruel present life.

She tried to look down at her body that had been aching, but found that her field of vision had been limited due to the neck brace around her neck.

What she could see though, were her limbs (right hand and leg) dangling in the air and she could feel pain dancing around her right ribcage.

Sun Ho Sook felt her eyes grow weary as she patiently waited for the two strangers outside her door to stop talking, enter the room and notice that she was awake. After a while, Ho Sook felt herself being pulled into memory lane as flashbacks had started to play in her head.

First Flashback:

‘A chain of houses caught fire, and have been burning furiously ever since this morning. The fire brigade is currently trying to stop these house fires from progressing any further and they have evacuated all of the residents out of their homes. It seems that almost every family had been evacuated except for one family, who are currently stuck in their house trying to escape.’ The reporter paused and the camera closed up on the house. “Look! Here come the firemen with some children in their arms! And it seems that more firemen and the children’s parents are following after….’ The reporter stopped talking and watched with a horrified expression on his face as the two-storey home had suddenly collapsed on the children’s parents and some firemen.

Two little figures tightly held on to each other as they screamed for their parents and helplessly watched the scene unraveling right before their eyes.

8 year old Sun Ho Sook held on to her 1 year old brother and screamed when she felt her brother being taken from her grip by some paramedics.

Curious eyes that peeked out from a paramedic’s shoulder cried bitterly and Ho Sook screamed when she saw that her brother’s chubby arms and legs stop moving and that he was no longer breathing.

Ho Sook started to cry and tried to call out the names of her departed family members over and over again, but nothing would come out. Ho Sook cried even more because just as her family had died, so had her voice.

End of First Flashback

8 year old Ho Sook had been sent straight to an orphanage right after a visit to the hospital. Ho Sook cringed in her hospital bed as unpleasant memories of her being bullied had played in her head. Ho Sook remembered how cruelly the other orphans had treated her just because she could not talk normally like they did.

2^ndFlashback:

8 year old Ho Sook had been pushed on to the stony pavements and a group of children stood in front of her with smug looks on their chubby faces.

‘If you talk and tell me to stop then we will leave you alone,’ the leader of the group demanded, she pointed a finger at Ho Sook’s face and started to laugh at her. She had a big smirk on her face as she knew that Ho Sook would not say anything.

Ho Sook opened , she tried to talk but no words would come out of . Crystal tears fell from her eyes and she grew terrified when she saw the group of children’s smirks grow wider.

‘What to do girls? She doesn’t want us to stop hurting her…She would have told us not to if she did want us to stop,’ the leader of the gang smirked and started to enclose on the terrified Ho Sook.

End of 2^NDFlashback

Ho Sook had spent most of her life in that orphanage, and continued to be a victim of childish bullying until her 18^thbirthday just recently. The orphanage threw her out on to the streets because they thought she was a waste of money and space.

With nowhere to go, Ho Sook had been walking around, trying to find a place to stay for the night when BAM! She had gotten hit by a car.

Ho Sook snapped out of her daze and looked at the two silhouettes that entered the room.

“Do you have anywhere to go? And do you know someone who can take care of you?” The first man, who looked like he was the doctor, had asked her as he placed her medical charts on the table.

Ho Sook bit her lower lip, how was she going to answer him? She wondered.

She tried to shake her head, but let out a cry instead because her neck hurt. She opened and tried to show him that she couldn’t talk, but he didn’t seem to be getting the big picture.

“Can you talk?” The young man that stood beside the doctor asked her. Ho Sook looked at him and saw blonde hair, as well as some bandages on his face around his right hand.

Ho Sook sniffled and looked into his chocolate brown eyes, as if trying to speak with them.

“Doctor..I think she has no ability to speak...” He paused and thought for a second before taking out his touch screen phone. He gave the phone to her, carefully placing it in her left hand.

“Let’s try this again…” The blonde guy said before repeating the doctor’s questions to her.

Ho Sook tapped her answer on the phone, ‘No’ it read.

“We can’t possibly leave her alone doctor,” The blonde guy said, his eyebrows furrowed.

“We barely have any room in the hospital for the patients that really need them…She can stay for a couple of days until she finds a place to live in…” The doctor had an apologetic and worried expression on his face.

The blonde boy closed his eyes and started to think again, before quickly opening his eyes. Ho Sook looked into sparkly, kind eyes that held some warmth in them.

“Arasseo…I’m taking care of her until she fully recovers!” He exclaimed, he was obviously excited about this. He looked at Ho Sook and gave her a heartwarming smile, “My name is Lee Hong Ki, by the way,” He said, giving her a beaming smile.

Ho Sook looked at the two in shock and felt a blush creeping on to her cheeks when she saw that they were staring back at her. She wondered what was going to happen to herself.
