Part VI: Waiting
Persephone's Granddaughter
{Underworld, Time Unknown}
It is her final day in the underworld.
Hermes had flown down this morning, narrowly dodging Cerberus who attempted to bite the young god’s toe off, and demanded his uncle to return Persephone this instant. Hades, who always favours Hermes as his favourite nephew, insists the messenger god for a bit more time.
“Even an hour is enough,” Hades pleads to the softening Hermes.
The latter knew of his uncle’s dilemma, for he too could see the growing love between him and Persephone, and he wants nothing more than to see Hades happy. But this battle has gotten to a point where neither side could admit defeat, and Zeus was forced to intervene.
“Alright. I’ll tell Zeus, but remember uncle, one hour!”
Hermes relents, and he departs, grumbling about the scolding he would receive from the king of gods himself, and then the outraged harvest goddess. Hades, on the other hand, sets off at once to the palace’s lower grounds, where he finds Persephone engaged in an amiable conversation with Cerberus and Charon.
“Why, Lady Persephone! I thought we’d both agree on the adventures of Hercules to be the most heroic!” Charon exclaimed, raising his rowing stick in apparent shock.
The action makes Persephone laugh, but makes the other guardian snort loudly, its three heads shaking in unison. Seeing this, Charon scoffs. “Of course, you didn’t like it. Since you’re the one that was dragged up there for one of the tasks, you lazy beast.”
