Park Yoosol had always been a lonely mermaid.

The world of merpeople was magnificent, with a fantastic dwelling and mermaids of beauty. Unlike the world above, the merpeople were able to live fully happy and simple lives.... Lives that never had a single problem until death itself.

All except for Park Yoosol.

Yoosol did have a problem, and she did have a dilemma of her own. She couldn't help but feel apart from her fellow mermaid friends in a confusing, hard-to-describe way.

She had the same breath-taking looks and the same bright personality as the other mermaids, but yet, she felt distracted whenever she hung out with them. It seemed as if she wasn't focused to this particular group of people.

Rather, she was remarkably interested in the people of the world above.

While the other mermaids secretly spied on the handsome mermen giggling and gossiping amongst themselves, Yoosol swam up to the surface of the sea and sat on her special rock, gazing up at the few, but interesting humans walking around. She had always wished to actually see a human up close one day, even though her mother had insisted that they looked the same as mermaids but with permanent legs.

And when her wish came true that one summer day, Yoosol had been met with pure shock.

Right in front of her eyes was a curious Oh Sehun suddenly accusing her of being a mermaid. Nothing would've calmed the surprise and excitement Yoosol felt at that moment, and she immediately reacted with a safe, self-defending opposition to the human's sudden accusation.

"N-No, what are you talking about?!"

She never knew he would actually pick her up and run into the sea.

From day one, she had been faced with boredom in her world. Knowing that something existed just above their heads but had never been explored... it couldn't stop piquing Yoosol's interest ever since she was young.

So when Sehun, the current love of her life, asked her timidly on that one day in September if she would be willing to escape to the human world for once, nothing but fireworks of pure happiness exploded inside of her heart.

Nothing seemed better at that moment. A chance to explore the full human world even outside of this beach? At the same time with Sehun by her side? The Sehun who brought a genuine smile to her face everyday? The Sehun who she couldn't help but feel an unusual longing for?

The Sehun she loved. The Oh Sehun who she loved so very dearly and was looking extremely worried right now, afraid that she would say no.

Yoosol stood still, thinking continuously.

Everytime Sehun had to leave after his visits, she wouldn't have to feel the anguish in her heart. She wouldn't have to feel the queer loneliness inside of her when having to swim back into the sea.

Just the thought itself caused Yoosol's heart to burst in happiness, and for a second, she couldn't do anything to freeze and say nothing.

Sehun looked down sadly, mistakening her speechless state as a refusal.

"Nevermind..... I'm sorr--"

He stopped when Yoosol suddenly took his hand, as gentle as ever.

She smiled warmly, much to his surprisement.

"Yes."

"... Y-Yes?" The boy repeated in a whisper.

Yoosol nodded.

"My answer is yes."

I purposely didn't write in Sehun's POV this time. It'll start being Sehun's POV again from the next chapter and on. This chapter's an exclusive :)
