chapter 35 – Envelope

Recap:

Your smile slowly faded away. ‘Mianhae, Jaejoong oppa… I can’t tell you now…’

Jaejoong looked back and his smile too, disappeared.

Donghae came out of his room when he felt it was the right time

He walked quietly towards the staircase and found you and Jaejoong sitting on the floor with your backs against the wall, sleeping

And he saw your hands were entwined with each other’s

‘She couldn’t do it, could she?’ He let out a small laugh and went back to his room

A week had passed. You and Jaejoong were back to being the loving couple you used to be

You still didn’t want to tell him about your sickness yet

It was a Sunday afternoon. Jaejoong went to Seoul hospital without your notice

“I’m sorry, sir. Patients’ health records are classified here. We cannot show you a patient’s health record,” the nurse stated to Jaejoong

“Nurse, please. I’d pay you as much as you want,” Jaejoong pleaded

“We don’t take bribery, sir,” she said firmly

Jaejoong sighed in frustration and ruffled his hair

The nurse looked at Jaejoong. “Exactly what is your relationship with Ms. Lee Hyeri?” the old woman asked in curiosity

The nurse was actually a friend of yours, you two had gotten to know each other because of your visits to the hospital to get your treatments

“She’s my girlfriend. I’m just worried if she has a serious illness…”

The nurse saw Jaejoong’s sincere expression and she softened. She looked around and signalled Jaejoong to come closer. “Tell you what, I will do my best to find you the health record. When I do, I will send it to you. I can’t give you it at the hospital or I’ll be fired. Please keep this a secret between us,” the nurse said in a hushed voice

“Really?! Thank you so much! You don’t know how much this means to me!” Jaejoong grabbed the woman’s hands and shook it

The old woman just smiled. ‘Young lovers…’ she shook her head

You were sitting on the couch in Donghae’s living room, waiting for Donghae to come down from his room to go to the hospital for your treatment

But then you started coughing

You covered your mouth while coughing. You hit your chest to help stop the coughing but it couldn’t stop

You stood up from the couch and walked to the kitchen to grab some water

You reached for the glass that was on the counter, but then you saw your hand. You started to shake. “B-Blood…?” you looked at your hand in horror

Donghae suddenly came in and saw you. He stopped. “Hyeri?”

You quickly hid your hand behind your back and turned to face him. “Oh, you ready yet?” you asked as if nothing was wrong

“What are you hiding behind your back?” he asked suspiciously, making his way towards you slowly

“I’m not hiding anything,” you denied, slowly backing away while looking around for something to wipe your hand with

Donghae suddenly jumped towards you and caught your wrist that was hidden behind your back  

He took a look at your hand and his eyes widened. “Tell me this is just fake blood.” He looked at you with sad eyes

You bit your lip and looked down. You couldn’t say anything to him

He let your hand go. “When did this start?”

“This is the first time this has happened…”

He sighed deeply. “Let’s just go to the hospital…”

Donghae turned around and started walking away

But then he stopped and turned back. “Do you really not have any plans to tell Jaejoong about your sickness?”

You looked away. “I don’t want to tell him just yet…”

“Fine, do what you want. But it’s better to tell him now then later, Hyeri. You know that too.”

And with that, he left

You looked at your bloody hand again and sighed. “I can’t…”

A week later

Tiffany was on her way to Jaejoong’s house to see him. When her car reached Jaejoong’s house, he saw an old lady putting something in front of Jaejoong’s door and then ran away

Tiffany furrowed her eyebrows. “Who was that…?” she asked to herself

The car door was suddenly opened by her driver. Tiffany took her bag and got out of the car

“You don’t have to wait, I’ll call you when I’m done,” Tiffany told the driver

“Yes, agassi.” The driver bowed and then went back to the car and drove off

Tiffany went to Jaejoong’s front door and saw a brown envelope lying on the ground

She bent down and grabbed it. She searched for an address but there was none. There was nothing written on the envelope

“Hmm… That’s weird.”

She decided to forget the matter for a second and took out the keys that Jaejoong’s mother gave to her to unlock the door

“Jaejoong oppa!” she shouted to call Jaejoong while making her way to the couch

“Who’s that?!” Jaejoong shouted back

“Tiffany!”

“Oh! Wait! I’m gonna go change and I’ll be down in a minute!”

“Okay!”

She sat on the couch and put the brown envelope on the coffee table

She looked around while waiting for Jaejoong and she couldn’t help her curiosity over the envelope

She grabbed it and looked at it. “Jaejoong wouldn’t mind… right?”

She finally decided to open the envelope. There were only papers inside. She took them out and read it

“Seoul Hospital?” she tilted her head

“Patient name: Lee Hyeri. Date of birth… Bla bla bla…” she murmured

Then something caught her eye. She gasped. “L-Leukemia…?!” her eyes widened in shock

She read the documents further and couldn’t believe what she was reading

Her hands started to shake and she was in panic. Then something evil came to her mind

'What he doesn't know won't hurt him, right?'

She heard Jaejoong’s footsteps going down the stairs. “Tiff?” Jaejoong called

Tiffany quickly put the papers back in and shoved it in her bag

Jaejoong made his way to the armchair near the couch and he saw Tiffany. “Uhh… Why do you look like you’ve just seen a ghost..?” Jaejoong laughed as he sat down

Tiffany forced a smile. “Really?”

“Yeah… You look frightened. Why are you here anyways?” he asked

“Oh, I just wanted to see you.”

“Oh… Umm…” Jaejoong tried to find a topic. “I saw you putting something in your bag just now, what was it?” he asked

Tiffany heart was about to explode. “W-What? Something? Oh that was just… nothing.” She laughed nervously while gripping her bag tighter

“Umm… Okay….” Jaejoong looked confused with her weird behavior

“W-Wanna go out to eat?” Tiffany changed the topic

“Um, sure. I got no plans.”

“Great!” she stood up. “Let’s go by your car, oppa,” she said and then went to the door

Jaejoong was eyeing her suspiciously from the back

‘Something’s fishy here…’

so i think i wrote the last part of the previous chapter weirdly, huh? there was nothing on the back of hyeri's head hehe

jaejoong just looked back at her while hugging hyeri because he felt something was wrong

i hope that clears that up :)
