Existence

The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Chapter four   “existence”

Endless questions popped into the heads of both. They don’t know what to feel, neither what to do. A stupid move, Lu Han thought, as he walked to the dim road, his hands on his pockets. Not looking in his way, Lu Han suddenly bumped into a girl, her hair ponytailed lowly, cap on.

“Uh – mianhae,” Lu Han apologized. The girl looked up, her face revealed from the moonlight’s shine.

“…” the girl hardly responded. Her perfect eyes looked straight to Lu Han’s which made the boy’s heartbeat stop for a second. The girl just then smiled delicately, showing her rosy lips and walked away.

Lu Han wanted to walk to her, but he thought that it would be a pretty bad idea.

Se Hun’s POV

I woke up from an irritating knock on my door. Someone was shouting. And I hated being shouted at.

“SE HUN AH~ WAKE UP!!!” the voice shouted. I recognized the voice from the moment it spoke; Kyung Soo.

I walked up to the door and opened the door. Just then, Kyung Soo’s tiger mode was automatically .

“Hyung…” I tried to speak.

“What the heck, Se Hun? I’ve been knocking in your door for like, what? Thirty minutes! Not to note down the loud kicks on your door! What’s happening to you these days? First, you’re home late. Don’t you know that Suho was worried sick?! Second, we thought you got beaten up. Now this; late wake-ups!? This is so childish of you Se Hun. You’re freaking 19 years old and you act like a three-year old. Grow up, will you? I’m getting sick and tired of your act,” Kyung Soo lectured me. I know I don’t want to listen, but I needed to. I was acting too stressed out lately.

“I – I know, hyung. I’m sorry,” I regretted.

“Just to add, Se Hun, you’re an hour late.”

Say what?! I know Kyung Soo has been overprotective and overdramatic much, but all I can say is… WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK?! An hour late!? Hell no.

I hurriedly ran downstairs and grabbed my bag. Kyung Soo, who was standing there clueless, shouted “Hey! Se Hun-ah! Eat breakfast first!”

“I’ll eat at school!”

“Yaaah! You didn’t even shower!”

“No one will smell me there. Bye hyung!”

“—the boy didn’t even brush his teeth.”

Sadly, there were no commute vehicles to be found. Fortunately, I spotted Suho-hyung’s bike sitting at the back porch. I grabbed it and rode in. After a few minutes, I arrived at school and ran towards homeroom class.

When I arrived, a bunch of new students were sitting in the room. I hardly recognized them. None of my classmates were there; neither one of Kris, Tao nor Kai. They stared like me as if I was a criminal; a wanted criminal. Just then, I realized that it was time for my second subject. Shocked and embarrassed, I bowed and left the room.

I checked my schedule while whispering hateful words, “Waking me up, one hour late? Genius…” Then I spotted, it was Chemistry.

I walked towards the Science lab where I was assigned to be. I realized that it was my first time in Chemistry class, so I better put my good side on.

As I reached the lab, I was still on my good mode, and then I entered the class. The other students started to sit down and calm. I stood there, the professor standing before me.

“It’s nice you still came, Mr. Oh,” the professor said, with that awkward poker-face.

“Um – mianhae,” I said, looking down and grabbing one strap of my bag.

“Okay, class. Settle down, it seems we’ve add an additional ‘troublemaker’ here in your class,” our professor smirked, looking at me directly. “Go on, introduce yourself.”

As I heard that, it took me a minute to snap back and gulp loudly. “Uh, hi… I’m O – Oh; Oh Se –”

I stopped as a loud bang on the door suddenly burst out; a teacher, gripping in his hand, a boy. The teacher opened the door and a blonde boy took view. It was him… the boy from last night.

“Ehem,” the teacher coughed. “Mr. Chemistry Teacher, I believe this student… is yours. I just caught him running off campus, I think, going to his friends. Now, monitor your class, will you? This is just too much.”

“Yes sir, I understand. Sorry.”

“You should be. This is an embarrassment for the whole school. Now, I should be going back to inspecting the campus for more rule-breakers. Continue with your class.” The teacher then made the unremarkable exit in the room. What I think, these two are high-school rivals.

“Ugh… continue, please,” our professor insisted.

“Umm – Oh Se Hun, nineteen,” I introduced then made a big bow in front of them. “Sorry – for being late, though.”

“Okay, Mr. Oh, you can sit down now,” the professor then took advantage. “Now… you?” he said, looking out to the boy.

At first, he didn’t speak. But as the professor looked damn serious, he spat out.

“L – Lu Han,” he finally spoke.

As he laid out his name, I couldn’t help but it stuck to my mind the second it fell out of his mouth. Lu Han.

“Okay, that’s all I want to know. Take a seat now, will you? You kids give me more white hair,” our professor said while taking a big sigh and pulling out one of those techy textbooks from the shelf.

I looked at Lu Han as he walked in the aisle where I sat. Just then I realized that the vacant seat was beside me. A part of me stopped. I don’t know why. He was looking down. As he sat, he leaned forward and brushed both his hands in is hair. He seemed troubled. I don’t want to know.

I tried hard not to look at him every second. But really, I couldn’t help it. It was like my eyes were in magnet with him. I shouldn’t know, but I think . . . I think I like him. As I thought that, my mind just went blank, my stomach just went into a roller coaster ride, and my heart stopped a beat.

In an unexpected moment, he turned to me. He caught my eye on his. We both stared at each other, in some shock I have.

“Uh . . . hi,” I said. I really don’t know why but I can be really stupid some times.

He didn’t respond to this. Instead, he turned back and looked away. But still, I can see that gentle smile on his lips, which made my heart stop a bit. I looked away, too, leaving that smile.

I looked again, but in another view, I could see; Kris-hyung was staring at me, his forehead crutching.

Later on, the bell rang so fast. It was an hour, but felt like seconds. I could be really taking advantage in looking at him. But I thought, time could be so fast when having fun.

I saw Lu Han heading for the canteen. I wanted to follow him, but a hand from behind stopped my shoulders.

“Goin’ somewhere, Se Hun?” It was Kris.

“Uh, to the, umm, canteen,” I answered.

“Canteen; Is it lunch time already? Yow, it’s a subject away. I guess the menu for today is really mouth-watering isn’t it? Let’s go. It’s English time,” Kris dragged me. I don’t know what’s with Kris hyung these days. He’s being so nice to me lately.

At English period, I wasn’t really paying attention; as I always do. I couldn’t help but flash back that smile from Lu Han. It was gentle, and so angelic. Every time I think of it, my heart gets heavy.

Not noticing, I was writing down his name in Hangul in a piece of paper. Xiumin then suddenly grabbed the paper and read out loud.

“Lu Han? I heard this was the boy from Chemistry, right Kris? The boy who tried to run off campus? If I know, this guy’s gay, for heck’s sake,” he joked. I wouldn’t believe a thing they say, for all I care.

Kris then grabbed the paper from Xiumin and ripped it to pieces, leaving scraps of paper on the floor, a mini-mess. Xiumin and I looked at Kris shocked. “Don’t you stare at me like that; and don’t write that name again, Se Hun,” his face gotten serious.

“Geez, Kris. Calm down. You don’t even know the boy…” Xiumin said, rolling his eyes at Kris who still, looked annoyed.

Not noticing, I suddenly dropped my pen from my hobby of tapping it uncontrollably. It rolled towards the end of the room, an occupied corner. A girl with a cap, wearing a light blue t-shirt with a printed ‘Seek to Groove’ on it, matching skinny jeans and Converse shoes picked it up and walked towards me; her hair falling perfectly in her shoulders.

“Believe this is yours, Se Hun,” the girl said while wearing a pleasant smile on her face.

“Uh – thanks,” I answered being completely stunned of her knowing my name.

“Yeah, I know you from Chemistry. Name’s Eun Mi, Park Eun Mi by the way,” she answered.

My eyes widened as I heard her name. Eun Mi.
