“!” Luhan howled.

It was Halloween morning, and Luhan was in a tight spot.

Today was the day he would be going to Danji’s house to work on the damn project. He should have been ecstatic. He should have been overjoyed. Instead, he was worried, irritated, and beyond flustered.

“WHY?! WHY?! WHY?!” Luhan punched holes in the wall.

“SHUT THE UP!” Tao roared from the next bedroom.

Chen burst into Tao’s room with his eyes gleaming emerald green. “YOU SHUT UP!” He snarled.

Xiumin didn’t even bother to stop them anymore. He was in the worst mood and would be until the night was over.

In the living room, Kris massaged his temple with a weary sigh. The morning had been a disaster.

Like a zombie, Lay stalked out of his room. He sank into the sofa and draped across it without his usual zesty greeting. “Did Luhan forget…?”

At that moment, Luhan stalked out of his room. He had no shirt on, and an irate scowl was on his face. His eyes were wild and angry. Luhan grabbed an innocent flower vase off the table and threw it against the wall. It broke and cracked into a thousand unbreakable pieces.

Kris raised an eyebrow in disapproval.

“WHY?! OUT OF ALL THE DAYS, WHY DOES TODAY HAVE TO BE A FULL MOON?!” Luhan snarled resentfully.

“Don’t complain to me. I have no control over the moon. I’m in the same boat as you.” Kris muttered.

“That’s not fair! I’m supposed to be with Danji tonight! !” All the curse words in Chinese and Korean he knew came spilling out of his mouth.

“Potty mouth.” Lay yawned tiredly.

In frustration, Luhan wrenched his silver hair and even tugged a few strands out. “WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW?!”

“Cancel it.” Kris shrugged.

Luhan’s eyes turned a livid icy blue. He was this close to turning into a wolf and clawing his own leader’s eyes out. “I CAN’T! Do you know what I did to get to here today?!”

“Then what the hell do you want to do?! Why are you yelling at me anyways?! I didn’t do anything ing wrong! If you want to go, then go! If not, then just hole up in your room and don’t cause any trouble!” Kris snarled.

Lay flinched. Kris was absolutely terrifying when he was pissed, which was not often.

“EVERYBODY JUST SHUT THE HELL UP! I’M SERIOUS! OR I WILL COME OUT AND BITE ALL OF YOU!” Xiumin roared from his room. Even angelic Xiumin turned into a monster during this time of the month.

Scowling, Luhan stormed back to his room.

Lay sat up and peeked over the couch. “You really going?”

“Yes!” Luhan hissed and slammed the door behind him.

Lay shrugged. “Her funeral.” He lay back down and blinked at Kris thoughtfully. “Is it wise for a wolf to be near his mate when she has not officially become his mate?”

“…That’s up to the wolf. But in general, no.” Kris replied.

“Do you think he’ll hurt her?” Lay asked, slightly worried.

Kris sighed. “Luhan has more sense than that. He would not be going to her house if he couldn’t control himself.” Still, he couldn’t help but feel doubtful. *At least…I hope he is rational tonight even if he’s with Danji. But that’s like presenting a fat kid with a chocolate cake and asking him to not eat it until the next day on his birthday.*

Luhan slumped against the door and slid down onto the floor. Luhan sighed and rubbed his eye with the palm of his hand. *It took me a while to get this far. I can’t let this chance go. I just hope I’ll be able to control myself tonight.* He stared at his hand for a while and lowered his head with another heavy sigh.

It was going to be a long night.

In the mid-afternoon, after calming down a bit, Luhan went to Danji’s house. He stood in front of her cabin and looked at it for a long time. A hundred thoughts swirled in his mind. His heart pumped hard and fast. *Calm down, Luhan. You’re fine. You’ll be perfectly okay. No, that’s not the problem. It’s Danji’s well-being we’re talking about.*

Luhan furiously rubbed his hair and took shallow breaths.

*You won’t harm her or scare her. You won’t pressure her to do anything. You’re going to be on your best behavior. If you think you can’t control yourself, you’re going to get the hell out of there.* He nodded in determination.

After that self prep-talk, Luhan walked up to her door. He quickly fixed his hair and took one last deep breath. Swallowing hard, Luhan reached for the door. Knock. Knock. He held his breath and drummed his fingers against his legs. *Come on. Open the door. Hurry up.*

Luhan reached out to knock again when the door swung open. He froze with wide eyes. He saw her and swallowed hard. *. .*

Danji stood in the doorway in a comfy white and navy blue sweater with matching shorts that showed off her slender legs. Her hair was in a tidy bun, and she was standing there with the most innocent, befuddled expression. To Luhan, she looked dazzlingly gorgeous.

*That’s my mate. And she’s so ing perfect.* He almost purred out loud but stopped himself in time.

“You’re late.” Danji simply said.

Luhan just nodded. He didn’t trust himself to speak yet.

“Come in.” Danji turned around and walked away.

Luhan’s eyes sized her up and down and stopped right at her taut bottom and long legs. He looked away and took several quick breaths while clenched his fist tightly. *Remember. CONTROL YOURSELF. Or you have to leave.* Not wanting to leave at all, Luhan calmed his raging emotions down.

“Aren’t you coming?” Danji called.

*Snap out of it, Luhan! Don’t ruin this one chance with her!* He rebuked himself.

Luhan stepped into her home. He was hit with her rosemary and vanilla scent at once. Stunned, Luhan looked around. Her home was cozy and neat. Many photos and carvings decorated the walls.

Danji walked to the refrigerator and pulled out a pitcher of fresh strawberry lemonade she had made that morning. *I hope I didn’t miss anything when I was cleaning.* She glanced over her shoulder and wondered why it was so quiet. Danji picked up the tray of drinks and went to the living room where Luhan was checking pictures of her and her family. *Are these her parents? If so, where are they? I thought she only lived with her grandfather.* He wondered.

Danji cleared loudly.

Luhan looked back at her.

She nodded towards her bedroom. “My room is that way.”

*Her room?* His eyes slightly enlarged.

Danji entered her bedroom and placed the tray on her desk. She had everything laid out on her desk: textbook, encyclopedias, and a slow, but working computer she had managed to find in the storage closet.

Luhan cautiously approached her room. At the door frame, he had to pause. Her scent strongly filled his nose, and he was doing everything he could to control himself. Luhan looked up at the blue sky with pleading eyes. *Don’t make me do anything rash. Please.*
