Gummy worms and Badgers

Make it Rain

“Do you want to have ?”

Woohyun choked on the milk he was drinking. Yes he was drinking milk, because he was a healthy little stripper.

He wiped his lip and turned to look at Myungsoo, sitting beside him on the couch. They were in the middle of watching a drama, and it was at the scene. The protagonist was finally going to pull her big girl on and make the biggest decision of her young life. Whether she should date the rich who’s always putting her down, but smiled in her general direction that one time, or her sweet, sensitive guy friend, who’s always been by her side, and supporting her since she was a child.

Don’t judge her. It was a really hard decision ok.

“…Excuse me?” Woohyun blinked. “Did you just—?”

“That’s what I asked him, but then he just screamed and ran away.” Myungsoo sighed.

“Um…what are you talking about?”

“That guy I’ve been seeing.” Myungsoo sighed.

“What guy? You’ve been seeing a guy?” Woohyun gasped. “Since when did you see guys?”

“I told you about it last week.” Myungsoo stated blankly.

“I feel like I would have remembered that…” Woohyun eyed the younger man skeptically.

“Maybe you forgot because you were too busy with—.”

“I wasn’t obsessing over that guy from the bachelorette party!” Woohyun blurted out.

“Huh?” Myungsoo paused. “What? I was just going to say that you were probably too busy dealing with that stalker you had since last month.”

“Oh...right.” Woohyun nodded.

Since working a woman’s 21st birthday party a month back, Woohyun had managed to acquire a stalker. She was fairly harmless, and sometimes followed him around, and occasionally attempted to break into his house. Nothing over the top.

Woohyun had kind of gotten used to it, and didn’t really notice her anymore. He probably should have called the cops about it, but he really never got around to doing it, and he didn’t have any smart people in his life to remind him to do so.

Sunggyu didn’t waste one moment of his week’s vacation at his mother’s house. He slept, and ate, and slept, and then ate some more. And when he was really feeling adventurous (when his mother wasn’t home), he would actually stand up and make the arduous journey to the kitchen to stock up on more snacks.

He was casually lounging on the couch, watching a variety show and chewing on gummy worms, when he heard the front door open.

“Mom!” He called out, but paused when he heard some laughter. In walked his mother followed by a rather attractive young man. Sunggyu slowly sat up to stare at the stranger.

“Sunggyu-yah, I was just at the grocery store, when I bumped into your friend.” She gestured to the man beside her, who had a friendly (a little too friendly, in Sunggyu’s opinion) arm around his mother’s shoulder, and a grocery bag in his other hand.

“Mom,” Sunggyu frowned. “Why are you bringing random strangers home? He could be a murderer.”

“Oh Sunggyu, don’t tease your friend like that.” His mother merely laughed and headed for the kitchen.

“Who are you?” Sunggyu got up, eyeing the man cautiously.

“You don’t remember me?” The man was actually pouting. Sunggyu didn’t think it was adorable. He really didn’t.

“No—.” Sunggyu paused when the man sighed and lifted up his shirt, revealing his impressive abs. “What…what are you doing?”

“Now do you recognize me?”

Sunggyu tilted his head in confusion. “Uh, not really.”

“From your sister’s party.”

“The… chocolate guy? Just Woohyun?”

“Yes.” Woohyun sighed, averting his eyes. “The guy you force fed that…that weird shaped chocolate.”

“Oh…wait, how’d you find me?!” Sunggyu gasped, protectively holding his arms to himself. “How’d you know my mother?”

“Because I saw a picture of her in your sister’s house, on the day of the party.” Woohyun replied quite calmly.

“That’s kind of super creepy. You know that right?”

“I guess.” Woohyun shrugged. He didn’t appear to be bothered by it in the least. “But anyways, the reason I wanted to find you all this time, is because I want to ask you something.”

Sunggyu made a face. “Is it about how my speech was total bull and I shouldn’t judge your lifestyle and blah, blah, blah—.”

The smile on Woohyun’s face faded in an instant. “Don’t just act like I was spewing garbage. I really meant what I said!”

“I know.” Sunggyu nodded, coolly.

Woohyun frowned. “Then why do I get the feeling you’re not taking me seriously?”

“I am.” Sunggyu shrugged.

“N-No you’re not!” Woohyun huffed, clenching his fists. “Aish, you’re so—.”

“So you wanted to ask me something?” Sunggyu interrupted, getting a whiff of what his mother had started to cook up in the kitchen.

“I…forget it.” Woohyun muttered. “I don’t even want to anymore.”

“Ok, well bye.” Sunggyu quickly dismissed him, and turned to the kitchen.

“Where’s Woohyun-ah?” Mrs. Kim asked, as her son waltzed into the kitchen.

“He…uh, he left.” Sunggyu mumbled.

“Aw, why?” Mrs. Kim frowned. “I was making dinner for the three of us!”

$$

“Myungsoo…” Woohyun whined through the phone, as he sat on the curb outside Sunggyu’s house. “Can you come pick me up?”

“Uh…right now?”

“Yes.” Woohyun frowned. “I’m at—.”

“A-Actually hyung this isn’t a good time.”

“Why?”

“Because remember that guy I said I was dating?”

“Yeah?”

“He finally agreed to have —.”

Woohyun hung up, and sighed. He stared at his phone screen, and then looked up at the sapphire sky. The stars were sprinkling in, and there was a light cool breeze.

“Oh well…” He mumbled to himself as he stood up. “At least the weather’s nice.”

Suddenly the front door opened, and Sunggyu peered out.

“Oh, damn you’re still here.”

“Well don’t worry about it, because I’m leaving now.” Woohyun pouted, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

Sunggyu watched him take a few steps down the sidewalk. “You’re walking?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Well it’s just…” Sunggyu averted his eyes. “There’s a rabid badger on the loose in the neighborhood. And sometimes it comes out at night.”

“Seriously?” Woohyun stared at him narrowing his eyes suspiciously. “Do badgers even live here?”

“Sure they do!” Sunggyu exclaimed.

“I don’t believe you.”

“Well fine then! Don’t!” Sunggyu huffed, folding his arms. “But don’t blame me when you get ravaged by the hungry wild beast of the night!”

Woohyun gulped. “W-Wait!”

$$

“So how did you and Sunggyu become friends?” Mrs. Kim asked Woohyun, as the three sat at the dinner table.

Sunggyu immediately started choking on his rice, sending Woohyun a warning look across the table.

He promised his sister he wouldn’t tell her about the bachelorette party and if Woohyun revealed his profession now…

“H-He works at my school.” Sunggyu lied. “He’s also a teacher there.”

So he’s a teacher...” Woohyun thought, watching Sunggyu take a sip of water.

“Oh, how lovely.” Mrs. Kim gushed. “What subject do you teach Woohyun-ah?”

“Um…physical education?” Woohyun glanced at Sunggyu from the corner of his eye to make sure his answer was acceptable.

“Ah that makes sense. Since you seem so fit!” Mrs. Kim clasped her hands together. “You know, you should really help Sunggyu learn a thing or two. He could stand to lose some weight.” Sunggyu merely ignored her, and purposely crammed more food into his mouth.

“I don’t think so.” Woohyun nodded, a frown on his face. “He looks good to me.”

Sunggyu looked up to meet Woohyun’s gaze. There was flicker of confusion before he swallowed another bite.

Woohyun subtly watched him the whole dinner. He really didn’t like Sunggyu. But for some reason he couldn’t stop watching him. Something about him…was almost hypnotizing.

$$

“Thanks for dinner.” Woohyun bowed politely to Mrs. Kim as they headed for the entrance way.

“Oh, it was nothing dear.” She smiled and patted him on the shoulder. “Come back again soon ok?”

“If I can taste your lovely food, I definitely will~” Woohyun grinned as he slipped his shoes on. Mrs. Kim laughed and tapped him lightly on the shoulder from embarrassment.

Sunggyu felt his dinner threatening to come back up from the disgusting scene of a stripper flirting with his mother.

“Sunggyu-yah.” Mrs. Kim tugged her son’s arm pulling him closer. “Why don’t you drive him home? Its late, and I don’t want the badger attacking him.”

“T-The badger thing’s real?” Woohyun blinked.

“Oh, of course!” Mrs. Kim nodded with wide, fearful eyes. “It’s dangerous! That’s why small children are banned from walking around after sunset in the neighborhood!”

Woohyun stared at his feet for a moment. “Ah, but it’s ok. I’ll just call my friend to pick me up.” He got out his phone and dialed Myungsoo’s number. He waited for a while, but the younger man wasn’t answering.

“Sunggyu can drive you.” Mrs. Kim offered and shoved her son towards the other man.

“No really.” Woohyun shook his head. “It’s ok. I can just—.”

Sunggyu heaved a sigh, and turned grabbing his keys off the nearby side table.

“C’mon, let’s go.” He held out his hand.

“What?” Woohyun made a face. “I’m not holding your hand.”

“Not like I want to either!” Sunggyu pouted. “But the badger will get you then! He likes to prey on loners!”

Woohyun snorted. “Seriously? It’s a badger not a homicidal maniac.” He confidently strolled out the front door, causing Sunggyu and his mother to collectively gasp.

“Hurry! Go after him!” Mrs. Kim urged and shoved Sunggyu outside, before hastily shutting the door behind him.

“Damn it.” Sunggyu muttered under his breath and rushed to catch up to Woohyun. “Yah! Just Woohyun, don’t be stupid!”

“Stop calling me that!” Woohyun growled, ignoring Sunggyu’s warnings, as he stomped towards the car. He stopped when he felt a hand grab his arm. He rolled his eyes and groaned. “I already told you, I don’t want to hold—.” He froze, when he realized it wasn’t Sunggyu, but, well something else entirely…

“Hello.” The creature that looked awfully like a man dressed in a furry black tuxedo smirked, rather creepily. His hair was unkempt and greasy, and he had a missing front tooth.

“What…?”

“I’m the badger.” The man spoke in a slow, whispery tone.

Woohyun blinked. “But you…you’re a person!”

“No .” The badger man retorted. “I swear these kids are getting dumber by the day…but,” He tightened his grip on Woohyun’s arm, and leaned closer. Woohyun could smell the man’s bad breath and made a face.

“Y-You sir, could use a mint.” He stated, though he was obviously fearing for his life.

“Lucky you got a good shape kid.” The man lowered his gaze, scanning Woohyun’s body. “You’ll fit in well with my collection.”

“C-Collection?” Woohyun blinked.

“My—.” Suddenly Sunggyu the hose and aimed it straight at the man. The man let out a screech and released Woohyun. “No! My fur will be ruined!” He hissed, falling to his knees.

“Just Woohyun!” Sunggyu had already turned off the hose and was racing towards them. “Hurry! Get in the car!”

“What the is going on?!” Woohyun looked from the cowering furry thing on the road to Sunggyu who was rushing towards him. Sunggyu grabbed his hand and shoved him into the front passenger seat of the car, before hopping into the driver’s seat and swiftly locking the doors. “Yah, what’s—?”

“Are you ok?” Sunggyu grabbed his arm, intently meeting his gaze. “Did he do anything to you?!”

“W-What was that guy?” Woohyun frowned. “When you said badger, I thought you meant, like you know, an actually badger! Not a…a weird person thing—!”

“What were you doing engaging him?!” Sunggyu berated, completely ignoring the confused stripper’s questions. “Did he offer to give you a sponge bath?! Tell me he didn’t!”

Woohyun pulled Sunggyu’s arm away, shaking his head. “No…? But what…what even—?”

“Good.” Sunggyu breathed a sigh of relief, as he looked up at Woohyun and smiled slightly. “That’s good…”

Woohyun couldn’t say anything and just stared into Sunggyu’s eyes, completely baffled.

“Ah,” Sunggyu looked down, noticing some grime on Woohyun’s arm from the badger man thing. “Here,” He grabbed a tissue from the backseat and took Woohyun’s arm and proceeded to wipe the dirt off.

“What…?”

“Don’t worry, I think its just soil.” Sunggyu mused, as he focused on cleaning the mark off.

“Why….?” Woohyun bit his lip, feeling his face grew hot. Which was weird, because with the job he has and all, it took a lot to make him feel embarrassed or flustered. He hastily pulled his arm away. “I-I’m fine.”

“Ok.” Sunggyu shrugged obliviously. He tossed the dirty tissue into Woohyun’s lap before inserting the key into the ignition and starting up the car.

Woohyun was kind of going crazy. He didn’t understand anything. One minute, Sunggyu was being a jerk, the next he was saving him from odd badger people. And then he returned to being a jerk again.

He remembered the drama he watched the other day. About the girl struggling to decide between the rich or the sweet guy friend. Woohyun always thought that if he was her he would go for the rich , but only for his money. If it was about love, it was no question. Obviously the sweet guy friend.

But now…he was kind of starting to understand the appeal of the rich . He didn’t know if Sunggyu was rich, but the part. Well Sunggyu was that in parts. Woohyun couldn’t help but feel attracted to the push and pull of it all. He wondered what it would take to grab Sunggyu’s attention. It was kind of exciting.

“So where should I drop you off?” Sunggyu interrupted his train of thought.

“…Huh?” Woohyun blinked dumbly.

Sunggyu snorted, as he stopped at a red light. “Where do you live?”

“W-Why do you want to know that?” Woohyun suddenly felt himself get shy and pressed his palms to his cheeks, like a shy school girl.

“Uh…so I can take you home?” Sunggyu blinked, obviously uneasy with the other man’s peculiar behavior. “What’s wrong with you? You’re kind of creeping me out…”

“Are you worrying about me right now?” Woohyun stared at him with glassy eyes.

“What?” Sunggyu scrunched up his face in confusion.

“Aigoo, don’t have to be shy~” Woohyun chuckled and tapped the older playfully on the arm.

“I-I’m not!” Sunggyu was starting to get frustrated with this weirdo beside him. “Just tell me where to drop you off!”

$$

They finally made it to Woohyun’s loft, and Sunggyu stopped right outside at the curb.

“Is this ok?”

“Yeah, thanks.” Woohyun was still sitting there looking at him.

“Uh…ok bye?”

“C-Can I see you again?” Woohyun suddenly asked.

“Huh?” Sunggyu blinked. “Why?”

“I…” Woohyun looked down nervously, before returning his gaze on Sunggyu. “Can we be friends?”

“Why?” Sunggyu asked again, with a bewildered expression.

“We can’t?” Woohyun pouted.

“I don’t really know you sorry.” Sunggyu averted his eyes. “Plus I have enough friends, so—.”

“Well fine!” Woohyun suddenly exploded. “I don’t want to be your friend either!”

Sunggyu could only stare in shock. “B-But you just said—.” All of a sudden, Woohyun grabbed the collar of his t-shirt and pressed his lips to Sunggyu’s.

Sunggyu was kind of too shocked to do anything. He couldn’t help but remember how good Woohyun’s body looked at the bachelorette party, and damn he was a good kisser. Before he knew it, he was returning the kiss, his tongue teasing Woohyun’s lips when the younger suddenly pulled away.

“Good…” Woohyun breathed, smirking. “Because I don’t want friendship.”

Sunggyu couldn’t help the blush creeping onto his cheeks, as he hurriedly wiped his mouth with his sleeve. “G-Get out of my car!”
