of Diapers, Barbie, and Perfect Husband

Come What May

Nana didn’t remember when or how she gets there, but for sure, it’s the club around Gangnam that she always visited back in her single time. The music played a very loud music and she couldn’t hear anything besides the thump of her heart and people talking and yelling to each other with drinks on their hands while sometimes dancing around. She looked around but finds no one she could talk to, plus her body somehow felt so weak. Nana sat at the bar area and couldn’t help but feeling all dizzy yet excited. Is she on one of the parties she’s been invited or she suddenly crashed here? She’s totally has no clue.

Someone tapped her back and suddenly, Yoona appeared there. Nana couldn’t help but feeling surprise. All she knew, Yoona lived in Japan with her husband. Why she suddenly coming to this party? Nana smiled at her but before she could hug Yoona and talk to her, something banging her head pretty hard and she got dizzy, and all she heard was …… her bedside alarm.

Nana squint her eyes and felt the warmth of the spring’s sunlight. It’s so nice to wake up in this kind of condition; body warm covered with a soft comforter with a nice smell of morning breeze. Nana slowly rubbed her eyes and looked at the ceiling. She recalled what was happened, trying to remember more scenes of it. That’s just dream.

The club, the drinks, the people, it’s all in her dream. No loud music heard; it’s the bird chirping at the tree outside the window. She’s lying nowhere but in her room at their house in Hong Kong. And somehow, Nana partially felt grateful to be awakening inside her room rather than the night club. No matter how familiar the place, still Nana felt uncomfortable there. Here, it’s nicer.

Slowly lifting her body, Nana wore her soft pink night gown’s robe. Yawning, she made a messy bun of her brown colored hair as she walks to the bathroom to wash. She looked at the mirror with her face greeted with the cold water. Nana smiled to herself, one of her morning routine. She believed that a sincere smile a day might help her skin glows and it keeps the wrinkle away.

Once she’s done washing, she set up the bed; leave it all clean and organized, moving to the next rooms in the house. Her pretty princess and little prince should have been awakened at this time. The 8 year old girl can always be seen sleeping comfortably on her pink bed and pink Hello Kitty comforter, if she’s not having a nightmare. And of course, Nana always loves to see Alden, her baby boy, on his bed.

Just like the other morning, Nana went to the baby’s room and found Alden already woke up, playing with the baby toys at the side of his bed. She beamed at the sight of the cute baby boy with chubby cheek.

“Good morning, Alden” she greeted him as she took him to her hands.

“Mommm-mmaaa” Alden said suddenly, responded to Nana’s kiss on his cheek. Alden still played with his toys, spread out a big smile towards Nana but then paid attention to the toys again.

“Let’s see your sister and wake her up, hmm?”

As she brought Alden along with her, Nana went to Catherine’s room. There her little angel slept like a cocoon, blanket wrapped her small body. Nana put Alden on the bed and the baby boy automatically went for his sister, softly touched her cheeks while giggling.

“Catherine, wake up…” Nana said as she opened the curtains and turned off the bedside lamp. Slowly giggling from the soft touch of Alden, Catherine opened her almond eyes. The sleepy face of her still shown but a smile didn’t fail to appear on her face.

“Alden!” she screamed her brother name, the baby looked surprised but then giggled along with Catherine. “Morning, Mommy” she said with her eyes half closed. Nana planted a kiss on her forehead as she took Alden to her embrace.

“Good morning, Princess Catherine. Getting ready, will you? Let’s pick up daddy this morning” Nana said as she looked at her child.

At the mentioned of the word ‘Daddy’ both of the kids giggled and looked happy. Their beloved father had been away for 2 weeks in New York for his business trip, leaving the kids only with their mother. They missed him of course but knowing how busy their daddy is, Catherine and Alden could only be understanding kids. Well, it’s more to Catherine accepted Kris’ absence; because Alden still didn’t realize the presence or absence of Kris. Thank God now they have a maid, Miss Lo, to support Nana’s needs at home.

Not too long after Alden born, they moved from their apartment to a house. The family getting bigger and the possibility to have more guests in their place was increased, so Kris decided to move to a house after staying in the apartment for 6 years. Once moving to the house, Kris more being actively participated in the house core and of course, hiring a maid. Miss Lo so far could work according to their like and was a very supportive maid, plus the kids love her, so it’s easier for Nana to leave the kids when she had to go for a long business meeting or worked at her beauty salon.

Miss Lo already arrived at their place at 9 in the morning and helped Catherine to get ready while Nana bathed Alden and dressed him up. Once she’s done with Alden, Nana left him on the baby box at the living room, letting him playing for a while under Miss Lo’s watch. Nana’s getting herself ready also, didn’t want to miss Kris’ arrival in Hong Kong. It’s been a long time since his last long business trip; the last was to Berlin for 3 weeks. Being a mother with two kids, Nana couldn’t leave the baby so she had to let Kris go by himself, not being able to accompany him.

Becoming Mrs. Wu was something she got used to. It’s not easy at first; she had to live separately with Kris because he still had to work in LA while she did her business in Seoul, although in the end both of them stayed together in Hong Kong. Two years after the marriage, Catherine was born, filled the little family with joy and happiness. As Kris and Nana was the only children in the family, Catherine became the center of the attention for her grandparents. And when Catherine aged 6, Nana delivered the second baby. It’s a boy, Christopher Alden Wu. Due to some difficulties during her second pregnancy, Nana need special care during the delivery process but finally, she and her baby survived the surgery room. She’s thankful to have a care husband and supportive family, but still becoming a housewife, mother, and businesswoman was not something easily achieved.

Nana had just done with her light morning make up and about to take her flat shoes when she heard a rant coming from Catherine’s room. She directly went there and found clothes scattered on the bed and on the floor.

“What’s happening here?” she asked as she looked to Catherine and Miss Lo. Catherine was still on her bath robe, hair wet, face frowned standing at the corner of her room, while Miss Lo couldn’t help but shrug her shoulder.

“Catherine wants to wear her denim skirts along with the denim jacket, but both is still being in the laundry because she’s just wore it yesterday and the clothes was dirty, that’s why I decided to wash it” Miss Lo explained to Nana.

Nana came to Catherine and looked at her. “Is it true?” she asked the girl.

“That’s my favorite clothes, Mommy. I want to see daddy while using the denim skirt and the denim jacket…” she said, half sobbing. Nana sighed and shook her head slowly.

“Catherine, the clothes are now being washed and you have no option but to wear other clothes. You have the pink dress or the jeans along with the t-shirt, right? Here, let me choose for you” Nana said as she her daughter’s hair, taking her small hand to move closer to the cupboard.

But being a stubborn kid, Catherine shook her head, refused to follow her words.

“I want the denim skirt” she mumbled, sobbing already.

“Catherine…” Nana called her with a stern voice.

Catherine shrugged. “I don’t want to use the jeans or the t-shirt and I’m bored with the pink dress, Mommy. I want my denim” Catherine said, pouting on the floor.

“But the clothes that you want are not here, Cathy” Nana said as she checked on her clothes. There’re lots of cute clothes on the cupboard, yet Catherine wanted the one that’s not present there.

“What do you say about this pink coverall along with the white t-shirt? You can use your favorite pink Converse shoes, Honey” Nana said, showing the cute pair of pink shoes with laces.

Catherine pouted and shook her head. “No, I want daddy to see me on my denim”

“You can show him on another occasion… We’re still going for picnic or Disneyland, you can wear it next time” Nana still trying to pursue the annoyed Catherine.

“No, I want him to see me on the denim today…” she ranted, almost crying.

Nana looked helplessly to Miss Lo, but Miss Lo could only shake her head. The denim was still being washed and there’s no way to get it done anytime in this morning. Nana slightly looked at her wrist, one more hour before Kris’ arrival and she has to deal with this kind of conversation in the morning. What a way to start the day…

Nana stood up as she looked to Catherine, who’s now totally into the rant and cry.

“Fine, just use the wet denim. Miss Lo, take the denim and let Catherine uses it” she said as she walked to the door, about to leave Catherine’s room. The girl looked at her in confused, still with tears in her eyes.

“B-but, Ma’am?” Miss Lo looked at her in confused. How on earth the lovely Madam let her daughter wore wet clothes?

“Just follow what she wants” Nana said shortly. She stopped before leaving her room, just to look coldly towards Catherine. “And Miss Lo, throw all the jeans and shirt and dresses Catherine has. She doesn’t want it anymore”

And by that, Catherine started to cry louder. Nana shook her head and totally didn’t buy for the show she put.  This was not the first time Catherine acted this way. As she grew older, Nana noticed that Catherine started to act just like the girls on her age: all about being picky and stated to rant whenever her wishes didn’t fulfill. Nana consulted this thing of course to her mom and her in-law; still she didn’t get the satisfying answer.

Sometimes, Nana’s afraid that the way she raised her was actually the thing that made her act like now. She’s been the only granddaughter for both family and for more than 6 years, she enjoyed all the attention the family gave for her. Even when Alden already born, people still caressing and spoiling Catherine, just like she’s the only kids in this world. Frankly, Nana was afraid that Catherine will grow as a spoiled little kid, even though she tried to raise her in the modest way.

Moving to the living room to take on Alden, Nana heard Catherine was still crying and Miss Lo trying her best to calm her. She wanted to go for her and shut her cries of course, but with her emotion now, it seemed to be impossible. Nana did not intend to scare her with anger, but it’s just she couldn’t help but to let her emotion screw. So Nana sat on the carpeted floor to prepare Alden for his breakfast as she relaxed her hot head. Right when Nana about to hug Alden, the baby accidentally hit his own head with the border of the baby box, causing him to cry hard.

Nana sighed at the scene, where Alden crying and she could still hear Catherine’s. Two cries in the morning and all Nana could think was headache.

Oh God, Kris…

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Alden Baby, stop biting your toys…” Nana said as she took the toys from Alden’s hand, making the baby frowned at her. “Mommy will give this back only if you stop biting on it. Promise?” she said again. Alden nodded; half understood half just copying Nana’s head movement. She kissed the baby’s forehead and gave the toy back to him, earning a cute smile from him.

“Mommy, what clothes is daddy wearing?” Catherine, holding on Nana’s right hand, looked around at the arrival gate.

“I have no idea, Honey… Let’s just wait for minutes, his plane was just arrived, so maybe it’ll take another 20 minutes before he goes here” Nana replied, stood near the gate with her two babies.

After the whole morning scene, finally Alden stopped crying and Catherine accepted to wear the black tight paired with her pink tutu skirt along with the crème t-shirt. Her cute honey colored long wavy hair made into a bun and she brought her little pink handbag. Everyone at the airport who saw her kept waving at her and greeted her, telling her that she’s the cutest little girl ever. The tears long gone from her face, but her eyes were still a bit red after the cry. Her hatred for Nana vanished already as she being clingy to her mom.

Catherine excitedly looked at the arrival gate, waiting for his beloved father coming from inside. Nana watched her little princess curiously looked around with a hopeful face. She realized that Catherine resembled her pretty much; her hair, her facial expression, but she got the lips and eyes from his father, which Nana loves. Unknowingly, with Alden on her lap, she Catherine’s hair and the girl gave her a cute pretty smile, but her face changed into excitement as soon as she realized something.

“DADDY!” she screamed as she ran to someone’s at Nana’s back and Nana immediately turned around, to find her husband standing tall at her back.

Wearing a dark blazer and same-colored pants along with a white shirt inside, Kris looked overly gorgeous for a 40 year old man with two kids. His big luggage along with several shopping bags stood next to him with Catherine immediately hugged his legs, but then Kris decided to pick her up, taking her to his embrace. She kissed her daddy excitedly and threw her hands around his neck, smiling widely.

“Easy, Princess. I’m not even taking bath, hello” he commented with a big grin, which made Catherine giggled.

“But you didn’t smell though” she added, hugged his neck tightly.

“Awww thanks for the compliment. Miss me?” Kris said, the back of her hair and got a fast nod as answer.

“Daddaaa” another voice heard and Kris went for his second child, Alden. He put Catherine back on the ground after nuzzled on her pink cheek and moved to pick up his baby boy from Nana’s hand.

“Hello, Kiddo. Been doing well? Did you take care of your sister and mommy well?” he talked to the baby and ignoring the fact that the baby didn’t understand his words, Kris beamed at the laugh Alden showed to him. Being playful with the kids, he realized that he missed one person.

Finally, Kris looked at his wife. Looking pretty with a tired face, Kris took her shoulder and pecked her lips before planted a kiss on her forehead. Nana kissed his cheeks and slowly his back, with Alden still on Kris’ hands.

“I miss you” Kris whispered to her, making Nana smiled before glancing to her husband.

“I miss you too… But these two kids here missed you most” she replied, glancing to Catherine and Alden. “How’s the flight?”

“As usual, bored without you” Kris replied, winked his eyes to Nana, making her smiled to herself.  Nana made sure Catherine was on her grip while Kris still holding Alden with his left hand and took the luggage on his right hand. She helped taking the shopping bags while they’re walking to the parking lot.

“Shopping again, Honey?” Nana said as she put the shopping bags on the trunk, while Kris placed the luggage there.

“Just a few. Mom gave you and the kids gifts, and then Tao also wanted to give Alden a birthday present, because he missed his birthday last month” Kris explained, looking at the amount of shopping bags he brought.

The four of them started leaving the airport with Nana driving the car. Kris previously wanted to drive, but knowing that Kris must have been exhausted from the long flight, Nana took the stir. It’s a pretty Saturday afternoon, where the road was pretty busy but still manageable. Kris decided to bring his little family for an early lunch, before later on visiting his grandmother and Amber, who’s apparently was having holiday in Hong Kong.

It was nice though, having a weekend along with his little family. How he missed talking with them the past two weeks was clearly seen by the way he hold Alden on his embrace or when he played around with Catherine, giving her a lift on his shoulder. He enjoyed their laugh and their presence, things he treasured the most at his life. Of course, along with Nana.

It’s been a while though for him to spend a time with his loved one. He’s too busy travelling and working, sometimes he forgot to spoil her with attention and care. For Kris, Nana couldn’t be more precious than her current presence. He was proud of her, on how she adapted from a pretty, gorgeous single ladies to a very lovely and caring mother and wife. He knew it was not easy for her to give up everything she had before she met him and settled down with him, but knowing that she did it, he felt so happy and lucky to have her in his life. That’s why when they saw each other after taking the kids to sleep – Kris did a story telling for Catherine while Nana sent lullaby for Alden on his room− Kris decided to give Nana a light massage on her shoulder.

“What are you doing?” Nana glanced in confused as Kris wrapped her from behind and sat on the couch in their room, placing her in between his legs.

“You must be feeling tired, so I give you a massage” he said, softly touched her shoulder and pressed on it, lightly massaged it.

“You’re the one who’s tired after your trip… Let’s go to the bed now” Nana said, looked at him from her shoulder.

“Already? You asked me for the bed already? I thought we can do some first here, Darling” Kris said with a tease, making Nana slapped his thigh while standing up.

“Oh come on, let’s sleep. I’m tired…” Nana said while pouting. She’s not in the mood to do any of those great love-making sessions with Kris tonight. To be honest, after taking Catherine and Alden for bath and also prepared the dinner, Nana totally had no energy left. She’s been worn out since the morning and all she wanted is their fluffy and comfortable bed, with Kris on it of course.

Nana was about to walk for their bed when Kris took her wrist softly and brought her once again to his embrace. He gave her a cute smile while she looked at him in confused. Kris touched her waist and pulled her closer to him while intertwining her left fingers with his. He gave her a time out sign and took his iPhone and Nana realized what he wanted to do once she heard the familiar song played, it was Frank Sinatra’s Love Me Tender.

Kris asked Nana for a dance.

“Really?” she asked his in awe while chuckled.

“We’ve never done this again since our wedding anniversary last year, you know” Kris responded, inhaled Nana’s hair scent while nuzzled his cheek on her head. Nana automatically wrapped her right hands on his waist, closing their gap.

The music started playing and Kris started to move his and her body. It was silent for a while, no one was talking. They’re enjoying the music while doing the slow dancing. This song was special; it was played during their first dance as husband and wife on their wedding reception.

“So how were your days without me? Hectic?” Kris started talking.

“More than can you imagine” she answered, half sleepy on his shoulder. “I think I will have another branch in Japan, Honey. But I’m still not sure, because it means I will have to go to Tokyo and stayed a bit long there… Because opening a store is not easy, you know it already” she said with a husky voice.

Kris her wavy hair softly. “We’ll talk about that later on… But is the business doing well here?”

“Yep, next week I’m going to have an interview about my store… We have a group of Korean Idol to be the spoke person. Accompany me later on, okay?”

“Sure, let me know” he answered, smiling to himself. Kris loved how Nana telling her day to him, like resuming and being open about her to him. It’s their routine before sleep though, which they developed since they’re still dating. “How are the kids?”

“It’s like in amusement park, you know. Baby screaming, kids crying, but sometimes they’re great on entertaining me” Nana laughed to herself, remembered how silly Alden when he’s playing inside the bath tub. “Hmm, anyway Alden was having a fever for three days but he’s fine already. He’s having his teeth grow, that’s why he’s having the fever and kept crying. Remember when Catherine had it?” Nana chuckled at her own words.

Kris raised his eyebrows and nodded.

“I was panicked like crazy, kept calling the doctor and our parents… Yeah, never forget” he added. “But everything’s fine, hmm?” he kissed the top of her head. Kris could feel Nana shook her head on his shoulder. “Anything wrong?” he asked her, whispering on her ear.

“I had a fight with Catherine again” Nana took a deep breath before continued. “You know, she’s been acting up lately. It’s normal, my mom said. She’s on the age when she acted so annoying and all about being picky. But sometimes I couldn’t handle it, Kris. I could harshly comment on her act and scold her, which lead to another cries. I mean, I used to argue with my mom also. But I don’t know if it’s this tiring…” she sighed at the end of her words.

Kris pulled back from her and looked at Nana’s face. She got teary eyes; with her face looking tired than ever. Kris ran his fingers to her cheek and staring at her deeply.

“Tired?” he asked her and received a nod as answer. He caressed her cheek again. “I’m sorry for not staying on your side the past few days, Love”

“It’s your job, it’s fine…” she whispered, looking down. “I need to learn more on handling Catherine. She’s growing older and asking so many questions, I need to understand her. And I−“

We are going to understand her together” Kris cut her words. “You’re not raising those kids by yourself, Nana. You have me and I will help you as much as I can to face this… Got it?” he said as he brought her face facing him.

Nana rolled her eyes. “Ok, hope you have a will to learn now why Barbie is in love with Ken, why Catherine only wants to hang out with Sarah, and why she refused to play with Arthur again whenever he visited her in Hong Kong. Plus, you have to give me more money to buy her sets of denim clothes” she said as she ran her fingers through his dark short hair. Nana loved the feeling of his fresh look.

Kris gave her a puzzled looks. “And what is that all about? Denim clothes?”

“Before we picked you up in the airport, Catherine cried and ranted to wear her denim skirt that was being washed. She put on a show and cried, so I asked Miss Lo to give her the wet denim and throw all of her clothes”

“Cruel, Honey” he warned her.

“I know. I was being too much this morning, that’s why I’m afraid that I was raising her in a wrong way… I don’t know…” she commented, looking confused. “I don’t want to scold her, but I don’t want her to be a spoiled kid… Is this too much to ask?”

“Yeah I know… But we can go through of it, hmm?” he softly her cheek again. “Tell me things you have in your mind and I promise you, we’ll face this together. So stop worrying will you?”

Nana looked with a pout on her face. She loves it when Kris consoled her, she likes it. But somehow, her fear took over the confidence she has about raising their kids. And she once again gave a worried look at him.

“I’m tired, Kris. And I’m afraid I’m going to be a bad mom and the kids going to hate me” Nana said as she hugged him and buried her face on his chest. Kris wrapped her body with both of his arms and placed his chin at the top of her head.

“No you’re not, Darling. You’re a great mother, I knew it” he whispered as he moved them back and forth, calming her.

“Things will be fine right, Kris?” she asked him, almost like a mumbled to herself.

“Of course. It will be fine. Stop worrying and relax, okay?”

Nana slowly nodded and after his back, she took a step backward to look at the face of the guy in front of her; her dearest husband, Kris Wu.

“What?” he asked as she looked at him.

Nana didn’t answer him. She tiptoed to reach his height and placed her soft lips on his as she closed her eyes. He caught her waist and placed one hand at the back on her neck, tilted her head so he could deepen their kiss. She loved the feeling having him kissing her back and began to put her hands around his shoulder, just like Catherine did whenever Kris hold her in his arms. When they’re running out of breath, Nana ended the kiss by pulling herself from his delicious lips. Kris giggled at her act and hugged her once again.

“I love you, Darling”

“I love you too” she replied and took his hand, walking to their bed. “But it’s late tonight and I think a sleep is all we need, hmm?”

Kris nodded and moved to the bed, turning his phone off and placed it on the nightstand. She already set the bed along with the pillows, getting comfortable there. He hugged her from the back and placed his lips on the crook of her neck while she placed her hands above his, his chest met her back with their long legs tangled. It didn’t take long for the couple to drift to the dream land, resting their tired body. That night, Nana felt at ease for having Kris around her. She even dreamed about her little family, with Kris and the kids playing around, laughing and all being happy.

She’s sure it’s not just a dream. She will have her little family like that, she’s sure of it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s another morning in the Wu’s place.

Nana busied herself in the kitchen while baby Alden sat on his baby chair near the table, playing with his bread on the plate. She prepared the breakfast for them along with Catherine’s snack for her break time in school. This morning she cooked by herself as she dressed Alden already, the baby will follow her to the office because Miss Lo was sick and there’s no one she could ask to watch her boy.

Kris opened the main door and went directly to the kitchen, greeted Alden and Nana. He’s just had the morning run, his routine. Wearing the jogging suit, Nana looked as Kris sweated body caught her attention, while he’s about to hug Alden.

“Honey, wash your hands first…” she reminded him while taking the breakfast to the table.

“French toast, my favorite” he commented as he saw what’s on the table. “Where’s Catherine? Isn’t she supposed to be ready for the school bus?” Kris asked while washing his hands on the sink.

“Maybe in her room?”

As Kris dried his hands with the napkin, he called Catherine but got no answer. He walked to her room, and found her on the alley. Catherine was sitting next to the window, while looking blankly there, totally ignoring Kris who’s standing in front of her. She’s on her school uniform already, but to the addition of that, she wore a long white pashmina, he believed it was Nana’s, along with a pink tiara to hold it on her head.

“Catherine? Do you hear me?” Kris asked her while looking confused. What’s wrong with his daughter? “Honey, Daddy is calling…” he said to her again, but still, no answer.

“Nana, what’s wrong with Catherine?” Kris asked, half screaming from the alley, kept looking at Catherine.

“Why?”

“She… didn’t say anything” Kris answered, making Nana came for him. She stood next to him and watched the little princess there.

“She’s being Rapunzel, Honey” Nana commented once she saw Catherine. She walked to the window and kneeled in front of Catherine.

“Rapunzel, time’s up. Continue tomorrow will you?” Nana said, caressing the girl’s cheeks.

“Okay, Mommy” she answered and smiled widely to Kris. “Hi, Daddy!” she greeted him and went to her room, taking her school bag.

“What is that?” Kris responded with surprised look.

“She’s just watched the Rapunzel movie yesterday at school, and now she’s acting like she’s Rapunzel. She won’t respond you unless you call her Rapunzel. Got it, Mister Wu?” Nana replied while patting Kris’ shoulder.

He chuckled to himself at Catherine’s silly behavior. “Does she often doing this? Last month she’s being the girl on that movie… What movie? The fluffy thing...” Kris tried to remember.

“Despicable Me”

“Yeah, that movie and she kept running around saying ‘I’m so fluffy I’m gonna die’… which is wrong” Kris said as he played around with his chin. “She’s a lot like you, you know”

“Of course, she’s my daughter” Nana responded, rolled her eyes. Kris was about to hug her and planted a kiss when Nana held his chest with her hands. “Honey, bath first. You’re drenched in sweat”

Kris frowned, playing with his cute eyebrows. “Don’t you like it when I’m on top of you, sweating and−“

Nana placed her elbow on his stomach; enough to make the tall guy went to silent. “Bath. Now” she said coldly to him, playfully being angry.

“Yes, Ma’am” Kris responded while walking upstairs, about to take a bath. He would do everything, anything, as long as it made her happy.

When Kris done dressed up before going to the office, he found Nana along with the kids on the table, having their breakfast. She waited for him though, while preparing his dark coffee and toast. Kris walked Catherine for the school bus near their house. She kissed him on the cheeks before going for the school bus, leaving the three of them on the table for breakfast.

“Mails, Darling” he said as he waved a pack of emails from the mailbox, placed it on the table near the door. Kris went for his toast and coffee as he read the newspaper and sometimes talked to Alden. The baby boy always responded to the silly face he made to earn his cute baby laugh.

Nana went to get the mails and read it one by one as she walked back to the tables. Kris watched her, she looked pretty on her crème dress and with the baby orange blazer, accompanied with her wavy hair being tied on the side. He loved the expression she made when she’s reading, slightly pouting her lips and looked deeply to the words. However, it seemed like something caught her attention and he didn’t miss that, but he ignored the fact that she’s really into reading those mails.

As soon as he finished his breakfast, Kris placed a kiss on Alden’s head and went for Nana, where she still looked at the mails being sent.

“Hey…” he called her, touching her cheeks which seemed to be flushed. Nana turned her head to the left and found her husband watched her.

“Are you being Rapunzel too?” he asked her.

“Hmm?” she responded with a blank face.

Kris smiled at her. “I’ve been calling you several times. Didn’t you hear me? Anything interesting on the mails?” he asked, peeked on the mails.

“Oh... Oh, sorry. I was just checking on these” she showed him the mails. “Nothing interesting, just our monthly bill of electricity and phone. Going now?”

“Yep, already saying goodbye to Alden. Your turn” he said as he kissed the top of her head. “See you this evening, ok?”

Nana nodded as she waved at him. Once he left, she looked at the mails on her hand once again. There’s one medium-sized envelope light brown colored, written “Seoul University Batch 2006 Gala Reunion”. Nana looked at it and saw the invitation inside. It’d be the first formal reunion of her batch, as they never reunited previously.

How long has it been? She thought to herself. The life she’s been missing for years now is about to coming back, and to be honest, Nana’s kind of excited about the reunion. She could imagine how she will interact with her friends, how about her classmates; she used to talk only with Yoojin, her best friend in university whom married 2 years after her and now living in Seoul along with her husband. Nana’s being excited and got her mind wandered, right when she heard a voice of plate falling to the floor.

She turned around and found Alden looked at the plate, she hurriedly left the invitation under the bills, coming for Alden. The baby boy was shocked and was about to cry, but she hushed him immediately.

“No, no, Honey. It’s fine… It’s nothing” Nana said as she took the plastic plate and smiled towards him. Nana quickly cleaned up the table and placed all the dirty plates on the sink. She rechecked the house and after made sure that everything’s fine, she prepared her bag, laptop, and Alden’s bag at the couch on the living room.  She couldn’t afford to be late for her meeting today.

“Let’s go with Mommy, hmm?” she talked to Alden as she held him, taking her bag and the baby bag to the car. She glanced at the mails and thought that for now, she could forget about the invitation. She’s now married with two children and living outside the country, so why bothers about the reunion?

Nana closed the house door and locked it. She carefully placed Alden on the baby seat at the back and after that got behind the stir. The engine and Nana smoothly moved to the drive way. It’s her life now, the life she chose years ago and she’s satisfied with it. As she smiled to Alden and talked along with him, she realized she didn’t need the reunion and sure that she won’t attend it.
