The bright ray of sunlight woke Haneul up the next day. Her eyes flashed open and she instantly sat up straight.

" I'm late for school! Why didn't omma wake me up!" Haneul panicked. She grabbed her phone on the side table to check the time and sighed in relief when she saw the date on the home screen. It was the first day of the New Year, which meant school was closed as it was a public holiday.

"Thank God now I can sleep some more.." She laid back on her bed, closing her eyes. Then she remembered. New Year. The events of last night popped inside her head and her eyes shot open again.

She recalled what happened - Han River with her friends, Minyoung kissing Daehyun, then.. her first kiss. Her heart thumped madly in her chest when she thought of the guy who stole her first kiss. He had offered to walk back home with her since they were neighbours but Haneul politely rejected the offer, saying it would be rude to her friends since they had come together.

That was a lie. At that moment, the last thing she wanted to do was to be with her friends. Haneul regretted coming with them to celebrate. She felt betrayed.

Minyoung knew. She knew all along that Haneul had a long ongoing crush on Daehyun. Haneul had told her once when they were having a sleepover at Haneul's place during the first year of high school.

But how could she? They were best friends!
