Stop This Rain

CHAPTER 2

Jieun walked through the gates and went to her dorm. She knocked and waited for her roommate to open the door for her. After a couple of rumble noises, the door opened revealing a half asleep figure.

“Jieun?”

Jieun entered, “Sorry, Hana, for not coming home yesterday. I got hurt and this ahjumma offered to cure my knees with some herbs.”

“Ah, good I thought you ran into some gangs,” Hana said. Jieun awkwardly smiled and turned towards her room. She went to change and got ready because her first class starts at 6:30AM. After preparing herself and eating a quick breakfast, Jieun left to her first class which was the class she hated the most, English. She sat in the back as the teacher began her lecture. She stared at her notebook and remembered early this morning.

“If he was tired he could have just ignored my request, why bother to stay up with me?” she thought. “Especially when it feels like he doesn’t even want to be around me.”

The question had Jieun thinking. “Maybe he gets nice when he’s tired.”

She tried to shake it off but it somehow kept wondering in her head. She felt her heart beat a bit faster.

“JIEUN!” the teacher yelled. She quickly looked at her teacher.

“Deh?”

“Pay attention,” she simply said. Jieun nodded her head.

.

.

.

Jieun looked at her phone. It was already past 4AM and he still hasn’t returned home yet. The candle had died. She sighed and removed it from the cake. She put the cover over it and placed it in the fridge. She grabbed her phone and entered the room they shared. She shook her head and changed into her pajamas and went to sleep.

He punched in the number to their apartment. There was a clank telling him that it was unlock. He held the handle and opened the door. He slowly closed the door to make sure it doesn’t wake up Jieun. He slowly walked to their room with one hand around his stomach and the other caressing the bruise on his lips. He opened the door slowly and entered. The moonlight shone through the window onto Jieun’s face made guilt rush through his spines. He knew that she had stayed up for him. He knew she remembered their anniversary and had bought a cake for them. He knew this because he knew HER. He changed and went to rest besides her pulling her closer to him. He slowly placed her hair in her face behind her ears and kissed her forehead. Then whispered, “I’m sorry.”

The sun shined brightly through their window. Jieun moved but felt an arm wrapped around her waist. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Yong Guk peacefully sleeping. Her eyes then land on his bruised lip. She moved her hand towards it and hovered over it. Jieun sighed and slowly removed his hands around her. She got up and went to get the first aid kit. She returned to see Yong Guk up. He smiled at her with his gums showing.

“Morning beautiful,” his deep voice said. Jieun smiled back and went to sit beside him.

“You don’t need to put medicine on it,” he said.

“But I want to,” she added opening the first aid kit. She took out some medicine and placed it on Yong Guk’s bruise.

“Anywhere else?” she asked. He shook his head.

“You sure?”

Yong Guk kissed her lips and nodded. Jieun closed the first aid kit and got up.

“Get up, I’ll go make something to eat,” she said and left. Yong Guk made sure she fully left the room and he slowly got up. He entered the bathroom and lifted up his tank top. There was a huge bruise on his right ribs. He pulled his tank top back down and prepared himself. He left the bathroom and into the kitchen where Jieun was still cooking. He went and wrapped an arm around her waist.

“I’m sorry for coming home late,” he said placing his head on her shoulder.

“Please stop getting into fights,” Jieun said and turned off the stove. She turned and faced him.

“I love you; I don’t want to see you hurting yourself.”

“You’re the reason all my pain goes away,” he smiled and kissed her. Jieun sighed and shook her head.

“Do you know how much it hurts me to see you like that?” she said removing his arms. She left to set the table.

“I know,” he said and followed her. “I promise not to get into a lot of fights.”

He sticks out his pinky. She stared at it and said, “You mean not to get into ANY.”

“I’ll try,” he smiled this time showing his gums. Jieun linked her pinky with his.

“Only because your gums are attractive,” she laughed a little.

“Come here~” he pulled her into a kiss. They backed away and Jieun went to get the remaining food. Yong Guk sat down first as she brought the food over.

“You always make the best food,” he said and started eating. Jieun sat down and started on her plate. They talked about their days and how work was. Yong Guk finished first and offered to wash the dishes. Jieun agreed as she entered their room. She grabbed a small box that was nicely wrapped. She smiled and left the room towards the kitchen. Yong Guk was almost done washing the dishes. Once he finished he dried his hands with a small towel and turned towards Jieun.

“What’s that?” he asked. Jieun smiled and gave it to him.

“Happy 3rd year anniversary~” she whispered. He smiled and took the box from her. Yong Guk ripped off the wrapper and opened the box. It revealed two small necklaces.

“I’m guessing one’s for you right?” he laughed. Jieun nodded her head. He took it off and they each put on their necklace.

“I know you’ve been busy that you weren’t able to get me anything,” Jieun said and hugged Yong Guk. “I’m ok with it, as long as you’re here.”

Yong Guk pulled back and smiled at her. “You’re the reason I ask myself everyday how I was lucky to have such a perfect girlfriend like you.”

Jieun smiled and nodded. “Remember how we became friends? And, oh how you asked me to be your girlfriend?”

She burst into a laughter remembering the memories.

“Y-yah!” Yong Guk said. “No, I don’t want to remember!”

.

.

.

It’s been a couple of weeks since Jieun last saw BAP. It was also summer break. Jieun had agreed to go with her roommate, Hana, shopping at the mall. Hana was going to go on a vacation trip soon with her family and her boyfriend to Hawaii. She wanted to go shopping for stuff to bring with her so she dragged Jieun along.

“Shouldn’t Chi Hoon be here, instead of me?” Jieun asked sitting down to rest her legs.

“Did you forget that he has classes right now?” Hana asked. Jieun nodded her head as if she forgot.

“Is this good?” Hana held up a bathing suit.

“Isn’t it showing too much?” Jieun asked. “Chi Hoon oppa wouldn’t like that.”

“It is…” Hana said and put the bathing suit back. She picked up another one this time also holding up a long skirt and loose shirt with it.

“Perfect,” Jieun smiled.

“Jieun, you should go with me to Hawaii too~” Hana said. “We can see if they have cute handsome guys over there.”

“I already told I’m fine,” Jieun replied shaking her head. “I’m still waiting on Mr. Right. And plus, I was planning to go visit my parents.”

“Really?” Hana asked and looked at her. “The only person you dated was that one jerk from high school that left you for a so-called-true friend. Maybe I should set you up on a blind date?”

“NO!” Jieun yelled. Hana looked at her weirdly.

“Why?” she asked. “Have someone in mind already?”

“Uh…no,” Jieun said and stood up. “You’re done here right?”

“You’re changing subjects!” Hana pointed at her. Jieun grabbed onto the bag’s Hana had gotten from earlier stores and left out.

“Y-yah!” Hana said and quickly paid for her clothes then followed after Jieun. After going through many other stores, they finally decided to order some milkshakes and leave the mall. They were walking down the busy streets of Seoul when suddenly Jieun bumped into a tall figure. He laughed and smiled.

“Hello there Jieun noona~” his familiar voice rang in Jieun’s head. She looked up and saw that under that hoodie was just the young gang member, Zelo.

“Hello there Ze-,” Zelo covered . She understood why as he slowly removed his hand.

“Jieun, who’s that?” Hana was dazed for a moment.

“Oh this…he’s-,” before Jieun could finish, Zelo cut her words.

“Junhong,” he smiled and reached out a hand towards Hana. “Choi Junhong.”

“Ah, well nice to meet you Junhong,” Hana shook his hand. “I’m Hana.”

“Jieun, my hyungs are having a party to celebrate the start of summer tonight,” Zelo said. “You and Hana should come!”

“Oh we loved to, but we’re kind of busy,” Jieun said.

“Busy?” Hana asked and looked a Jieun weirdly. “Don’t worry Junhong! We will come!”

“That’s great then!” Zelo chimed and clapped his hands together. “You should still remember the address right? Well same place at 7PM. See you there!”

Before Jieun could protest anything Zelo ran off.

“How did you meet him eh?” Hana elbowed her. “And you ended up at someone’s place?”

“He’s the…ahjumma’s grandson,” Jieun said. “Yeah, um, let’s go home.”

“Hey, we have to prepare for this summer party,” Hana smiled. “And come on, you need to seriously get yourself a boyfriend!”

“Bwoh?!” Jieun yelled as Hana dragged her back towards the mall. After another shopping time, they finally reached home. Jieun wanted to get some rest but Hana dragged her into the bathroom and prepared her for the summer party.

“Oh I can’t wait to see how this party is,” Hana said. “Oh, I should call Chi Hoon and tell him to go too!”

“You can’t!” Jieun yelled making sure she doesn’t go out to get her phone.

“Why?”

“Uh, he have classes remember,” Jieun said.

“Um, I don’t remember him having classes late at night,” Hana thought.

“Well the ahjumma has 5 grandsons,” Jieun said. “If Chi Hoon was to find out about this he would totally kill me and maybe you.”

Hana thought for a bit and nodded her head.

Jieun sighed and smiled. After Hana had finished putting make up on Jieun and getting her dressed up, she prepared herself. Once they were all completed, they got out and left to the apartment BAP lived in. Once they arrived, they both got out of the car and stared at the apartment in front of them.

“I imagined a big house,” Hana whispered.

“I think this was a bad idea,” Jieun mumbled.

“What?” Hana asked looking at Jieun. “Forget it, let’s go!”

Hana dragged Jieun in even though she had no clue which apartment was BAP’s. They were in the elevator when Jieun spoke up.

“Hana,” Jieun said. “I should’ve told you this earlier.”

“Told me what?” Hana asked as the elevator door opened to the 3rd floor. Hana walked out first as Jieun followed.

“Which one is there apartment?” Hana asked.

“Hana listen to me,” Jieun said holding onto her hand. “We have to go back home. This place isn’t a good place.”

“What do you mean, it’s just your friend Junhong’s,” Hana replied. “Plus, you’re acting like he some gang or something.”

“He is,” Jieun said low enough for no one to hear. Hana stopped in her tracks and turned to Jieun with a serious face.

“Good try Jieun~ but that’s not going to work on me,” Hana said ignoring her. “Now which one is their apartment?”

“Hana!” Jieun whispered loudly. “I’m telling you the truth! His real name is Zelo-.”

“Oh! JIEUN!” another familiar voice yelled. Jieun and Hana both looked up to see that the apartment one door away was opened revealing a figure waving at them.

“That must be them,” Hana smiled and dragged Jieun with her. Jieun tried her best to pull her friend back but her friend was too strong.

“Well hi there, I am Jieun’s roommate, Hana,” she greeted the guy.

“Nice to meet you I’m Himchan,” he smiled. “Come on in.”

Hana stopped for a bit. She remembered that name clearly. Hana then looked at Jieun with wide eyes.

“Let’s go!” Himchan pushed both of them into the apartment and locked the door.

“JIEUN! HANA!” Zelo yelled running towards them. He opened up his arms for a hug but only received a punch back.

“Do not try to touch me or my friend!” Hana yelled dragging Jieun behind her. “Jieun, I thought you said this was an ahjumma’s place and her grandsons?”

“Ahjumma?” Yong Guk’s voice can be heard. Jieun looked at BAP and then back at Hana.

“Surprise,” Jieun said without energy. “Well I try to tell you on the way here but you kept ignoring me!”

“Yah! So they were the ones that helped you that one night?” Hana asked. “Unbelievable! They’re a gang! You know what they do to girls?!”

“Hana~ you’re over reacting,” Jieun said. “They’re not the type that will do bad things to us. They helped me away from another gang. I didn’t tell you that one night because it’s just that I didn’t want you to freak out if I said a gang helped me. Calm down please.”

Hana took in a couple deep breaths and sigh.

“Spill it.” She simply said.

“Ah…they’re a gang,” Jieun started off. “They’re known as BAP. You should know that already. That one night this other gang chased after me and planned to do something terrible but then BAP popped out and helped me. They’re life savers. They won’t hurt us.”

“You sure?” Hana looked at each one of them.

“You two aren’t worth it,” Yong Guk said and entered the kitchen.

“Uh let’s introduce ourselves!” Jieun smiled. “Guys, this is my roommate Hana. Hana this is BAP. That’s Himchan, Youngjae, Daehyun, Jong Up, Zelo, and Yong Guk.”

“Would you like some cake noona?” Zelo asked.

“Uh, sure,” Hana replied. Zelo smiled and went to get two slices and return giving them each one.

“Thank you,” they both said. Zelo nodded.

“Sorry about punching you earlier,” Hana said.

“Oh it’s nothing,” Zelo smiled. “I’m used to it.”

“You sure, because I think I kind of hit you a little bit too hard,” Hana said. “Sorry my boyfriend taught me to defend myself.”

“That’s good of him,” Zelo said. “He should teach Jieun noona too!”

“I can protect myself!” Jieun said. “It was just I wasn’t prepared that day.”

“Yeah you weren’t,” Yong Guk nodded his head. Hana couldn’t help but laugh.

“Should we start on the games?” Jong Up asked. “I really want to play~”

“Arra,” Himchan said. They played games and laughed the night away.

“What time is it?” Jieun barely remembered.

“Past 11PM,” Yong Guk laughed. This time Jieun laughed back at him.

“Well if you didn’t know, since summer break started for us, the gates don’t close till 12,” Jieun said and stuck out her tongue to Yong Guk. He glared at her and turned the other way.

“Short temper,” she mumbled. He turned back.

“What was that?”

“Nothing,” Jieun smiled. Hana looked at the two and couldn’t help but smile.

“We should get going,” Jieun stood up and stretched.

“About time,” Yong Guk mumbled.

“What was that?” it was Jieun’s turn to ask. He turned and smirked. “Nothing.”

Jieun glared at him and helped Hana up.

“It was fun~” Hana said. “You guys are DAEBAK!”

“We hope to see you guys around soon~” Himchan said. They both nodded their heads.

“Wait hyung, shouldn’t we them home?” Zelo asked. “Those other gangs are always running out late at night.”

“Let them be,” Yong Guk said.

“Or…they can sleep over!” Zelo smiled.

“We don’t have room!” Yong Guk protested.

“We do,” Himchan said. Yong Guk turned and glared at him.

“I want more food~” Daehyun mumbled.

“They can share the room Jong Up uses as a dance studio,” Himchan said. “If you’re okay with it Jong Uppie.”

Jong Up nodded his head.

“We can just use the extra blankets we have left and you and me will sleep on the floor,” Himchan said. “While the ladies take our room.”

“NO.” Yong Guk said. He certainly did not like the idea of the two staying, especially giving up his bed for them.

“I’ll sleep on the floor!” Zelo raised his hand. “Me and Jong Uppie~ then noonas can take our room~”

Himchan glared at Yong Guk.

“Arra~” Himchan said and turned to Jirun and Hana. “You two are staying for the night.”

“Yay!” Hana yelled in excitement. Jieun was happy as well but with Yong Guk’s attitude was always barking back at her, it wasn’t making her feel welcomed. Once they got everything set up, Hana knocked out first. Jieun couldn’t sleep even though she tried her best. It wasn't the bed that caused her not the sleep, it was the things running through her head.

“Last time he wasn’t as ignorant,” she thought lying on her pillow. “The others were so easy to connect with but HIM. He always ruined everything. But that night we first met…he was mean at first but was suddenly nice and accepted my offer to stay up with me even though he was tired…maybe he’s a two face? Eh? What am I thinking? Get him out of you head Jieun!”

She stared at the ceiling and sighed. She stood like that for a couple more hours. Jieun still couldn’t fall asleep. She tossed and turned but it was not helping at all. When she finally got the chance to slowly drift off to sleep a thump was heard. Jieun shot open her eyes and called Hana’s name. Hana didn’t reply. Jieun look and saw that she was peacefully sleeping.

“Deep sleeper!” Jieun mumbled. She got up and grabbed the closest thing to her that could protect her which was none other than a skate board. She slowly opened the door and peeked out. The kitchen lights were on, and to her surprise it was Yong Guk. He looked like he didn’t sleep at all was well.

“Someone’s up,” he said. Jieun widened her eyes and tried to close the door.

“Jieun.” He said. She stopped half way when he called her name.

“He doesn’t sound so mean?” she thought. Jieun placed the skate board down where she stood and walked out.

“What’s keeping you up?” Jieun asked.

“Thoughts.” He simply replied. “Nightmares again for you?”

“Nope, just thinking about something.”

“Thinking about what?” he asked. Jieun looked at him.

“Not your business,” she replied. He let out a small laugh.

“Water?” he asked. Jieun shook her head.

“No thanks,” she said. “What wrong with him?” she thought looking at his tired face.

“So his two faces are real…” she mumbled.

“What?” he looked at her.

“I’m going back to sleep,” Jieun said. “You should too.”

“I’ll try,” he replied. Jieun glanced at him one more time before she entered the room. She was still thinking about how Yong Guk was acting when she stepped on the skate board and fell on her .

“Owwie!!” she whispered loudly. She got up and rubbed her to ease out the pain.

“I knew I shouldn’t have placed that skate board there,” she mumbled.

“You okay?” Yong Guk asked from outside the door.

“Yeah,” Jieun replied and went to rest on the bed. She heard footsteps walking away and a door closed. Jieun pulled the blanket over her and continued thinking. After awhile she drifted off to sleep.
