“Mei you sheng ming li mei gan qing,” Minseok (Xiumin now) sang one of his only lines in "Mama."

Mirae smiled delicately at her best friend. She could only watch him through the television screen, but it was fine with her. Minseok, her sensitive yet caring friend, was finally beginning the concrete scene of his dream.

A soft smile graced her lips as she sat on the couch facing the television screen. Minseok was guesting in a famous Chinese variety along with the Exo members, and she couldn't miss it. She wanted to watch him unleash his active side. 

“Let's welcome our Korean friend, Xiumin!” a host actively greated. Mirae had made it on time.

That was good.

“Xiumin, you look very cute,” a translater was quickly doing her job, “can you do some poses for us?”

Minseok, the friendly and obedient man whom he was, did what was asked immediately. He puffed up his cheeks and widened his eyes. The responese was massive! A big, red graphic exclamation point added to the intensely cute motion of his.

Screams of delight filled the entire studio. The members in the background seemed to chuckled lightly to themselves while the audience craved for more.

But Mirae thought of something completely different. 

“Isn't his face much thinner than the last time I saw him?” She narrowed her eyes. “This isn't right."

“Thanks for treating me to lunch, Mimi!” Minseok happily exclaimed as he picked up his chopsticks. “Training has been even more intense nowadays, so this meal is really a great energizer!”

Mirae smiled fondly at her friend. “You fully deserve it,” she replied readily. “You've practiced for years, and you're finally going to debut in two months!”

Minseok suddenly stopped eating.

The atmosphere darkened.

Did she say something wrong?

“You're right,” he stated in an alarmed tone. His eyes bulged and his mouth opened slightly, as if he had realized something fatally vital. “I'm debuting soon.”

His head snapped upwards as he forcefully pushed his plate away.

“I can't gain any more weight while I'm already so close to my goal!”

“YOU'RE SO CUTE!” the hosts exclaimed loudly.

Mirae's attention snapped back to the television. She didnt want to remember the insecure emotion painted on Minseok's eyes; it pained her more than anyone would know.

The hosts praised his youthful appearance while he smiled appreciatively in return. That was what he had worked terribly hard for: acceptance. 

But when a host suddenly commented a taboo line, Mirae quickly burst up from her sitting position. Her eyes searched for Minseok. A smile continued to grace his lips, but his eyes did not deceive her. He looked startled and dangerously, no - deadly, grievous. 

"No," she whispered hopelessly. "That's one of the most offensive words you can ever tell him.."

The host had commented,

“I want to pinch your extremely chubby cheeks!”

Last year, Xiumin's weight was unofficially recorded as 65 kg (143 lbs). Now, he's 51 kg (112 lbs).

He lost 14 kilograms. Xiumin is unquestionably underweight. 

In the Naver live broadcast, Xiumin commented, "If I look back to how I looked last year and compare it to now, there's a big change...I don't want to go back to that time."
