Ch. 3: Song

Voice of an Angel

There he waited as soon as the blue sky began to fade from the sky. It was around eight when Henry left his room. He wanted more than anything was to hear that girl sing, the one that captivated his heart that one night before. The words in her song resonate with what he is feeling and her voice has a strange familiarity to it, like this is the voice that he should know and yet he doesn’t know who it belongs to.
Waiting for nearly hours, just as he was about to give up and go back to the hospital Henry hears a singing voice. It belongs to that girl he had heard before, the same voice and song. In fact, there has been a rumor going on in the hospital about a ghost girl singing to her lost love. Even after hearing that rumor it didn’t fade his belief that the girl is not a ghost but a living and breathing girl.
It ten pm as Krystal and Kris arrive at the park. Both of them complain to one another about them almost being late. Both of them are blaming each other as who is at fault for their lateness. In the distance they could hear the voice of someone singing, that singing voice stopped them from arguing any further. The sound of her voice was so beautifully and at the same time it eludes this indescribable sadness. Krystal was speechless. Kris was so shock at the level of sadness in the voice he was hearing, he want to believe that the voice he is hearing doesn’t belong to Amber.
“Wow.” Krystal said. “I didn’t know she was this good.”
“Krystal.” Kris said hesitantly. He is afraid of who he thinks the voice belongs to. “Do you know the singer?”
“I met her today and she said she was singing tonight. She didn’t mention why she was singing.” They were still searching for the singer in the park then Krystal mention, “Look for the girl in a white dress.”
There they found her singing and walking through the park hiding from the moon under the trees. The gentle breeze allows the moon light under the canopy and the moon light made it look like Amber was glowing. More than that, she looks like she was a fallen angel who has lost her way.
With one look, Kris couldn’t help but think that the girl he is watching is Amber. Even though her voice sounds different from Amber’s usual way of singing, Kris still can’t help but feel this is Amber, the one he no longer recognized. Then from the corner of Kris’s eyes he saw Henry. Anger rose in his heart and doubts grew in his mind.
“Wait here.” Kris said to Krystal. “There’s something I need to check out.”
Before Krystal was able to respond Kris has already left her sight. Kris walks up to Henry and forcefully grabs the collar of his coat. Without a doubt, Henry was still in his hospital clothes under that long coat. All of his doubts vanish the moment he saw Henry’s face.
“I’m sorry, do I know you?” The expression on Henry’s face as he said those words made Kris speechless.
“No, sorry, I’ve mistaken you for someone else.” Kris said. He thought that all of Amber’s suffering was for nothing but Henry’s response was unlike the Henry he once knew. The only thing that is familiar about Henry is his affinity for Amber.
Kris left to his car and text Kristal to return to the car. As Krystal got back to the car, Kris was in deep thought. He got a head ach just thinking about who he saw singing.
“Oppa!” Krystal complains. “Why did you leave me by myself?”
“Who was the one singing? What’s her name?” Kris said in a stern tone.
“Why are you so serious? I thought you would enjoy her singing voice. The one thing I didn’t think would happen is the sadness in her singing voice.” Krystal said feeling disappointed. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make things more awkward for you.”
“Just tell me her name.” Kris said in a calm voice but there is hint of rage in his voice.
“I hope things won’t get more awkward for you to be around her.”
Even without Krystal saying it directly Kris knew who she was referring to but wanted to confirm it. He wanted to hear her name for himself. “Please, just give me her name.”
“Amber.” Krystal said hesitantly in fear of her brother’s wrath. “Don’t blame her. I asked to watch her sing but she didn’t know you’ll be here too.”
“What did you expect me to do after I hear her sing?” Kris asks.
“I don’t know, maybe you’ll discover something you have never witness before or something that have never crossed your mind.”
“Maybe it’s time for a career change for Amber. It might not be best for her to just write songs anymore.”
“I didn’t mean for you to fire her from her job.” Krystal protested.
“The only way to heal her heart is she has something else to focus on. Maybe it is best to keep her busy.” Under Kris breath he whispers, “I need some time away from her as well.”
“Don’t fire her oppa!” Krystal said in fear of her own action costing someone their job. “Please, I promised I won’t bother her anymore.”
“Stop!” Kris said wanting Krystal to stop saying anything more. “Just stop. I understand.” He turns to Krystal and shows her his calm face saying, “I won’t fire her so stop panicking. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t ready to see her sing. I know how good she is more than anyone else.”

Back at the forest with Amber singing, just as she finish she made eye contact with a familiar face. It was Henry but the way he looked at her was like a stranger meeting her for the first time. Amber couldn’t help but shed tears as they made eye contact. She was happy but at the same time she couldn’t allow herself to believe that this was the same Henry she knew. Donghae said her Henry had died in the crash.
This miracle meeting means nothing or at least it should mean nothing to Amber. So she left Henry not giving him the chance to ask her anything. Amber’s world suddenly felt colder and lonelier than before. This meeting was unexpected and it was giving her intangible hope.

Henry couldn’t help but to feel touch after seeing those tears rolling off that singing girl’s face. He couldn’t hold back his racing heart and he wanted to learn more about her. There were things he wanted to ask her. Henry couldn’t shake the feeling of her being someone he knows before his crash.
The girl look at Henry as if she knew he would want to ask her something and left in a hurry before he could even approach her. There are still a lot of things Henry hasn’t learned about his past. Many things from his past are still too much for him to handle but this girl was an exception, she was one of his much needed breather in his life at the moment.

Amber raced back home heavy of breath once she close the door behind her. Seeing a person that resembles her love Henry was too much. Tears streams down her face as she remembers all those time she had spent with Henry. Not knowing what to do as she felt trap in a vortex of nightmares. She cries quietly to herself to sleep holding on tightly to a large teddy bear that Henry had given to her on one of their dates.
Knowing Amber, Donghae couldn’t show his face knowing Amber don’t let anyone see her crying face. After Amber had fallen asleep he carries her to her room. He wonders if Amber was thinking about Henry again, thinking whether he should reveal to Amber that Henry was still alive. Even if he did, Henry’s family won’t allow them to approach one another.
As Donghae was just leaving the sound of his footsteps woke Amber up. He hears her calling for him. “Oppa. Oppa.”
“Yes Amber.”
“Is Henry alive?” Amber quickly retracted her words and ssaying, “Sorry.” She couldn’t help but continue crying. “You said he died and now I’m having doubts your words.”
“Calm down and tell me what happened.” Donghae hopes it isn’t what he is thinking.
“I saw him.” Amber said. “I saw someone who looks like Henry at the park.”
Donghae didn’t have words that could sooth Amber’s already broken heart. “Maybe it is Henry’s ghost watching over you.”
“Maybe.” Amber couldn’t tell Donghae that this Henry only looks the part but is nothing like the Henry she remembers. She can’t help but notice that Donghae was hiding something important to her.

The night was long and painful for Kris, Amber, and Henry. Their mind race to the thoughts of where they could have been if that accident didn’t happened. A twisted fate awaits them in the future.

From the Author:  Made some changes to the ending. I made the mistake of making writing that Amber knew about Henry's memorie lost. Look back to the first and second chapters and realize Amber wasn't suppose to know about Henry's memory lost or the fact that he was still alive.
