☀ Chapter Three ☀

Bloom of the Sun

Author's Note : Hehe.

"No" Jessica said, annoyance clearly laced her tone.

"I don't want you to do anything for me. I-" she was cut off by Taecyeon who's she talking to over the phone.

Jessica is currently inside their first period classroom, alone. She came early since she has some errands to do for their cheerleading team. She is standing in front of the big clear window overlooking the entrance of their school. Their room is on the third floor.

The ice princess sighed loudly as she listened to Taecyeon's whine.

"Tell me, do you like someone else? Are you secretly seeing some guy behind my back? Because if I fou-"

Jessica cut him off this time. Rage burning in her eyes. The nerve! "Shut up, Taecyeon. I cant believe you're saying those things to me. You know what? I think we need to cool off-

"No! I will…"

Jessica pushed the end button of her phone frustratingly. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, exhaled then opened them again.

Her eyes found the sky that is full of clouds.

The silent moving and as well as the steady clouds helped to calm her emotion.

If Sooyoung finds inspiration by looking at the setting sun, Jessica, meanwhile, finds peace by looking at the clouds in the sky.

"Boyfriend trouble?" Jessica was startled a bit then whipped her head to look at the owner of the voice.

Tiffany is standing there beside her own desk, smiling charmingly as always. The blonde girl smiled back a little then shrugged "you could say that"

Tiffany put down her bag on top of her desk then walked beside the window where Jessica is currently standing close to. She looked down and saw a number of students coming in to school.

Jessica copied her. They stayed like that for a moment, watching students piling up at the school entrance.

"Do you like him?" Tiffany suddenly asked.

Jessica caught her breath then turned to her friend. "W-what?"

Tiffany turned to her, smiling "Your boyfriend, do you really have feelings for him or not?"

The ice princess frowned, not liking the way Tiffany sticking her nose into Jessica's business.

"Well ofcourse, he is my boyfriend. I wouldn't date him if I don't have feelings for him." She answered defensively.

Tiffany only smiled. She knew better.

Jessica's about to say something again when someone called their names.

"Jessica! Tiffany!"

Both of them looked down and saw their three other friends, Sooyoung, Seohyun and Yuri. Yuri was the one who called them and waving at them from the ground like crazy.

Seohyun immediately run off when some of the students throws them a look. Sooyoung stayed and looked up at where Jessica and Tiffany are.

A genuine smile grazed over Tiffany's lips, she's about to open to call Sooyoung's name but Jessica beat her to that.

"Soo!" Jessica called out, waving her right hand at Sooyoung enthusiastically who waves back at her just as much.

On the other hand, Tiffany's whole demeanor changed.

She silently turned and looked at Jessica's face. Noting the fond smile on the blonde's face and it reached her eyes too which makes it seems shining as brightly as the morning rays.

Tiffany clenched her hands.

Yuri crossed her arms. "Hey! I'm the one who called you! Why are you only greeting Sooyoung?!" Yuri shouted.

"Ms. Kwon! Why are you shouting within the school grounds?"

The two cousins turned to the voice of one of the teachers.

Yuri gulped.

Meanwhile, on the third floor, Jessica couldn't help but to grin as she watch Yuri being scolded by a teacher. Good thing she wasn't caught too.

"You really do like her" Tiffany suddenly uttered.

Jessica turned to her, confused. "Huh?"

Tiffany didn't answer right away, she looked down at where Sooyoung is then looked back at Jessica with a smile on her face. "Taecyeon. I realized that you really do like him."

Jessica's still confused. She's positive that she heard Tiffany pertaining to 'her' not 'him' but she nodded anyway.

"You're right."

"I'm sorry I doubted it" Tiffany then said.

The blonde girl froze for some reason at her friend's words but she willed herself to smile a bit.

"That's alright. No problem."

Sooyoung arrived late at the cafeteria since her teacher had to say something to the class even after the lunch bell rung. Her eyes immediately found Jessica standing in the line choosing what to get for lunch.

Her heart starts to beat fast and her feet wants to rush to Jessica's side and greet her and talk to her about anything.

Those are what she wants to do.

To be as close or as near to Jessica as possible. To talk to her about unimportant stuff, to say something funny and listen as she laugh and to hold her hand just because Sooyoung wants to. She wants to do all the things that she normally do with Jessica before.

But this time, it’s different.

Completely different.

Sooyoung took a deep breath and released it.

I love her.

Sooyoung walked towards the end of the line. Stopping herself to just walk right up next to Jessica.

She could wait.

Taeyeon walked towards their table solemnly, A pack of homemade lunch already on her hand.

She's about to take the vacant seat closed to her when she noticed the back of the person sitting besides it.

It's Tiffany.

“You disgust me.”

Taeyeon gulped as she remembers those words and looked at Tiffany's back for a couple of seconds, heart beating painfully, then willed herself to walk around the table to sit beside Jessica.

Jessica looked up from her phone when she heard someone moved the chair beside her. She's expecting Sooyoung but it is the forlorn face of Taeyeon whom she sees.

"It's Sooyoung's se-"

"Please." Taeyeon cut Jessica, pleadingly. Her voice was small and eyes are watery.

Jessica frowned, immediately picking up that something's wrong.

She and Taeyeon do not agree to a lot of things but they are good friends. So Jessica just shut up and nodded to Taeyeon. She wants to ask what's wrong but she feels that it is not the right time to ask such thing so she just return her focus back to her phone while picking her food halfheartedly.

Sooyoung stopped in her tracks when she saw Taeyeon already occupied her designated seat. She sighed, disappointedly, then walked to a vacant seat beside Tiffany instead.

Tiffany greeted her with a smile which she did too in return then her eyes turned to Jessica but the said girl is busy typing something on her phone.

Only the voice of Sunny, as she tells her friends something about what her boyfriend did yesterday, could be heard in the long table of friends. There's an occasional teasing remarks from Yuri and halfheartedly, 'uh huh' or 'oh' from Hyoyeon.

Seohyun is not present since she has to do something in the library, Tiffany would throw a glance at Jessica once or twice while completely ignoring Taeyeon. The latter, meanwhile, is trying to prevent her tears to flow as she swallow, hurtfully, her food. On the other hand, both Jessica and Yoona are looking down their phones typing a message for someone.

Sooyoung felt her phone vibrate in her back pocket. She fished out her phone then a smile instantly formed on her lips when she saw Jessica's name flashed on her screen with a new message. She looked up and caught the eyes of the said blonde who winked at her and motioned for her to read the message.

I think something's going on between Taeyeon and Tiffany. The text says.

Sooyoung frowned but quickly typed a reply. What makes you think that?

Taeyeon looks sad and she kept on looking at Tiffany.

Is that so? Should I ask tiffany?

Hmm. Maybe not or let's give them space and time to resolve whatever issue they have with each other first.

You're right.

Sooyoung looked up at Jessica when she didn't receive any new message from the said girl after awhile. She silently chastised herself, she should’ve included something interesting on her last reply so that their conversation would just continue.

The tall girl's about to slide her phone back in her pocket when she felt her phone vibrated again. She willed herself to not make her excitement show but the smile can't stop to spread on her lips as she opened the new message from Jessica.

Let's meet up after school. There's something I want to tell you. The text says.

Sooyoung bit her lower lip and about to type her reply but Yuri's voice stopped her.

"You three !” Yuri called out, “What's so important on your phones that you didn’t even notice me taking foods from your plates? Not that I'm complaing, really, but are you guys having a sort of secret conversation behind our backs? Because if you guys did, I wou-"

"Oh shut up Yuri. We're not doing such thing" Jessica said, annoyed.

Yes they did. Sooyoung thought in her mind, guiltily.

Thanks for listening to my problems, Yoona. I really appreciate it.

Yoona hides her smile as she reads the last text from the person she secretly loves then quickly locked her phone and hide it in her lap before Yuri could think of snatching it from her hand and inspect her phone just to prove that they are really doing what she claimed Yoona, Jessica and Sooyoung were doing. That girl is crazy.

Yuri turned her questioning look at her cousin whom she knew could never lie to her or to everyone.

Sooyoung blushed and about to open .

"Forget it, Yuri. Here, just eat my food since you already took half of my pizza." Jessica said as she pushed her food to Yuri's direction who immediately took and eat it.

Sooyoung just sighed in relief and thanked Jessica in her mind.

"Sooyoung!" Sooyoung turned and saw Yoona walking towards her with a folder on hand same as hers. When the younger girl caught up with her she held up her own folder "teacher errands?"

Yoona grinned. "Yes, can't help that the teacher trust us more to do tasks for them" she said proudly though jokingly.

They continue to walk towards the teacher's lounge where they were both asked to drop those folders off to.

Sooyoung laughed. "Or they hate us more that’s why we’re the ones doing tasks for them" she corrected.

It's Yoona's turn to laugh "touché"

They are still walking on the hallway while having s conversation about random stuff when they heard voices that seems like arguing.

They both stopped in their tracks and looked down at the stairway that leads to the 2nd floor then they looked at each other.

The argument continues and they could now distinctly hears a man and a woman voice. Without voicing out their thoughts, both Yoona and Sooyoung decided to just ignore it and should not stick their nose on some other’s business.

They were about to continue their walk towards their destination when they heard it.

"I'm sorry, Jessica..."

Both the girls held their breath and then found their feet slowly taking steps down the stairway completely forgetting their principles.

They only have to take four steps down and look on their right down to the middle landing of the stairs to see them.

There they are. Jessica and Taecyeon.

In each others arms.

They could just mostly see the back of Taecyeon with his arms around the smaller figure of Jessica.

They could also see the shaking of Taecyeon's shoulder. He's crying.

"I love you so much. Please, please let's make this work." He said, his voice shaking.

Sooyoung felt like she's floating. She has to hold the railing of the stair just to make sure that she won't fall. And then she heard a muffled sob.

The taller girl turned to Yoona and was shocked to see her crying with her shaking right hand covering .

"Yoona…"

She wants to ask what's wrong but the younger girl swiftly but noiselessly run up the stairs away from her… away from the scene.

Sooyoung is contemplating whether to run after her friend or stay.

"You do love me, right?…" Taecyeon continued.

Sooyoung stays.

"…Or you at least like me… we've been together for 3 months already, Jess. I know in your heart you've learned to like me. Please, give our relationship a chance. I won't ask for anything from you again. Just stay by my side." Taecyeon begged.

Sooyoung turned her back from the scene below her. She took each step gingerly up the stairs as her left hand holding the railing firmly.

Her heart beating rapidly against her chest.

"Okay" Jessica uttered softly.

The hand that was holding the railing fell lifelessly to her side.

"Don't forget our practice early tomorrow morning, Donghae"

"Yes coach!" He gave him a mock salute then said his goodbye. Their practice game went extremely well today but since the actual game is coming in a couple of weeks, they have to practice more.

Donghae was walking towards the campus gate while checking some messages on his phone. He looked up a bit to make sure that he's not walking on to something then looked down again on his phone. He has to double take when he realized that he recognized the person standing just outside the entrance. It's Sooyoung.

He does not know if it is because of the adrenaline high he's still feeling after their practice game or that he just can't hold his feelings anymore but he found his feet walking towards the girl he has been crushing on since freshman. His mind is blank but his steps are determine.

Jessica realized that she didn't receive a response from Sooyoung when she asked the latter to meet up with her after school. But she knows the tall girl is waiting for her.

A lot of things happened today. Jessica and her boyfriend's fight, her, thinking of breaking up with him completely and not just to cool off - that's what she wants to talk about with Sooyoung, she wants to ask the taller girl's opinion about the matter - and then Taecyeon's confession that he loves her.

She was dumbstruck hearing those words from Taecyeon earlier. At the beginning of their relationship, they both know that there's no feelings attached for each other. They are just two people that are used to have someone beside them that they could have relationship with. As long as they are attracted to each other, even only just physically, the relationship continues. But they both know that after sometime they will eventually separate ways.

And now, Taecyeon told her that he loves her then witnessed him cry, like tears actually falling from his eyes.

Jessica should feel happy and grateful because someone could love her like that.

Someone who could show her their weakness side.

Because crying for Jessica is a sign of weakness. That's why she never let anyone or anybody to cause or see her tears.

No one will.

But for some reason, instead of feeling happy and grateful because of the confession, it feels like a burden instead.

A burden that she'd agreed to bear with.

Jessica sighed heavily.

She's been with a number of people before, maybe she should try to be actually into relationship.

And I need to try it with Taecyeon.

Looks like she has nothing to talk about with Sooyoung, after all. But Jessica’s still looking forward to meet up with the tall girl.

A smile formed on her lips when she saw the back of Sooyoung waiting for her just outside the entrance of the campus. She's about to run and surprise the tall girl but when she's almost near she realized that Sooyoung was not alone. She's talking to some guy.

Its Donghae. Jessica realized.

Why is she talking with him? She wondered.

Jessica walked silently towards the two making sure that she won't be notice and then she hide behind the gate as she listens.

"…just for a day…" she heard Donghae said.

Jessica's eyes widen when she heard the next words.

"…please, go out with me."

It seems like the time stood still around Jessica.

Why?

Something hard is on her chest that makes her difficult to breath.

Why?

Sooyoung looked up at Donghae's determined expression. She heard the nervousness in his voice earlier but it doesn't show on his face.

She couldn't help but to wonder.

Would I be able to be just like Donghae when I confess to Jessica? Nervous but determine?

Would I be able to ask her out on a date not as a friend but as someone she could have a romantic relationship with?

Would I have the courage?

Would it be…

Sooyoung looked back at that moment when she first seen Jessica on a different light. That particular afternoon when the bleeding sky was so beautiful….. but Jessica is so much more.

Also that time when Sooyoung held Jessica's hand and just looked at her while the camera clicked off from the distance… and she let herself fall.

… possible?

"Sooyoung?" Donghae's voice bought her back to the present. This time, she could now see the nervousness on Donghae's face.

Would it be possible? She asked herself again.

Sooyoung wasn't sure what makes her said that. Was it because of the way Donghae asked her? Or is it because deep inside, she wants to take a revenge on Jessica by dating her ex boyfriend?

Sooyoung saw the relief and happiness that flooded on Donghae’s face when she answered “okay”

And she found the answer as to why.

Donghae offered to walk her home and she said yes. They started to walk while she listen as he started making plans as to when and where should they go on their date. Sooyoung then took out her phone from her back pocket and texted something.

The answer is…

Me and Jessica will never happen.

Not possible.

So I have to move on.

She pressed send

----------

Why?

Jessica shakenly took out her phone when she felt it vibrated. It’s a text from Sooyoung.

She opened it.

Can’t today. I’m sorry.

Jessica typed a reply.

Ok. :)

She looked at the smiley emoticon on her text for a moment before she hit send.

Why?

Jessica started to walk outside the gate, clutching her phone tightly on her right hand. She took a few steps and then she stopped. Slowly, she looked up to the sky.

White clouds moving slowly and peacefully on the blue wide sky.

Jessica just looks on.

She likes the silence of the clouds.

Because it always calm her and make her feel better.

Until now.

Jessica brought up the hand that was holding her phone to her face. The back of her hand was soaked instantly as the tears flow uncontrollably from her eyes.

Why does it hurts so bad?
