“I’m gonna be frank with you” Hyosung said calmly though she was quite nervous. Jonghyun is her friend; she didn’t want to hurt him.

 

“Go ahead” he stared at the beautiful lady in front of him. His heart ached as he can predict what she wanted to say.

 

“Look, I really appreciate your feelings towards me but-”

 

“I get it, Hyosung” he cut in.

 

“I’m sorry but I don’t wanna give you any false hopes” she tried to explain, hoping that he would understand.

 

“So?”

 

“Let’s just stay as friend”

 

“Friend? Great. But I can’t promise you that..I’ll let you know that I’m willing to wait because I know you’re the one for me,

you’re my other half..Please remember that” Jonghyun's words left Hyosung speechless.

Joon glanced nervously at his wrist watch for the nth time. At the same time his eyes were busily scanning people coming out

from arrival hall. His lips curved into a smile after he saw a familiar figure wearing red trench coat and cute beanie made her

way towards his direction. She waved her hands excitedly and speeded up her steps. How he missed that cute smile plastered on

her face. They stared at each other for few seconds before Joon pull her in his embrace tightly.

 

“I miss you” he said in low voice while patted her head gently.

 

“I miss you more!” she beamed before she claimed his lips. They broke their from-gentle-turn- to-passionate kiss since people

started to look at them. Joon took her luggage in his right hands with Minah’s hand in his left hand.

 

“You hasn’t changed at all”

 

“And you’re getting prettier!” he complimented and she replied it with a kiss on his cheek.

 

“Yah! Do you miss me that much?” he grinned.

 

“No, I am not! Not at all” she rolled her eyes at him. Joon patted her head again as he knew that Minah was lying. She probably

missed him like he missed her though. Her head turned to right and left, searching for something.

 

“What’s wrong?”

 

“Where’s Hyosung? I really want to meet her!”

 

“Tch..I’m here right in front of you and you’re asking about Hyosung? Just focus your eyes on me. I’m your fiancé, okay?” he

cupped her face. Joon can be so possessive with the woman he loved. Well, sometimes. He knew she was here on a short break

from work and she will going back to Haiti again. How he wanted to spend his time with Minah as much as he could.

 

“Hahaha..I know, I know” she pouted. Deep down inside, she felt relieved that Joon’s feeling for her hasn’t changed a bit even

though she knew Joon and Hyosung were quite close. Whatever it is, she strongly believed Hyosung is a lovable and nice

person.  Nonetheless, Minah definitely could not wait for this weekend.

Both Joon and Minah families agreed to hold a small; closed engagement party at one of the hotels in Seoul. Their guests were

mostly their relatives and close friends. Minah looked so flawless in her lacy pearl white dress that hung above her knees. Her

hair and makeup was so on point; it flattered her beauty. Joon just couldn’t take his eyes on her. She noticed Joon was quite

nervous at the moment he put the pretty diamond ring on her finger. People around couldn’t stop complimenting them as perfect

couple.

 

Joon brought Minah to greet their relatives and proudly introduced her to them. She was delighted as Joon’s families accepted

her well into the family. She felt blessed as none of them treating her like an outsider. She promised herself that she will cherish

these people in her entire life. But there was only one person she hasn’t met yet.

 

“So, which one is Hyosung?” she whispered to his ear.

 

“Sorry, I almost forgot about that!” he said as he looked for Hyosung in the crowd. His eyes stopped at the pretty short hair

lady wearing mint colored cocktail dress who was cheerfully talking to a guy. “There she is! Let’s!” he walked together with

Minah. Hyosung noticed them and she flashed her gummy smile and waved her hand.

 

“So, Minah, this is Jeon Hyosung, and Hyosung, this is Bang Minah” Joon introduced these two ladies.

 

“Oh god..Finally I can meet you!” Minah hugged her out of blue. Hyosung just laughed and hugged her back since she too was

eager to meet Joon’s fiancé.

 

“So, please excuse us for a while..hmm..Mister?” Minah looked at one good-looking guy who stood beside Hyosung.

 

“Lee Jonghyun, Hyosung’s boy-” Joon replied unexpectedly.

 

“I’m Lee Jonghyun. Hyosung’s friend” Jonghyun cut in before Joon can finish his answer. He shook hand with her. He winked

playfully at Hyosung who looked so discontented with Joon’s tease.

 

“Nice to meet you, Jonghyun! Please excuse us, okay?” Minah said as she dragged Hyosung to sit at an empty table. Both Joon

and Jonghyun just shook their heads at them.

 

“You’re so pretty!” Minah exclaimed, amazed at Hyosung’s appearance. Joon once sent Hyosung’s picture to her and she gotta

admit she looked hundreds time better in real life.

 

“Correction.. we BOTH are pretty!” Hyosung joked, earning a small laugh from Minah. A waiter approached them and gave

them drinks.

 

“Ya know, I really can’t wait to meet you. I don’t know. I really want to know his BFF” Minah gave her another smile.

 

“Really? I’m sorry I couldn’t wait for you at the airport the other day. I was quite busy with my patients”

 

“Ahh..Don’t worry. Joon already told me that. So, tell me how’s Joon?”

 

“How is how?” Hyosung’s forehead wrinkled.

 

“I mean..Joon and I are continents apart. We rarely spend our time together and in 6-7 months we are getting married so it

worries me to be honest. I might not know him as much as you do.” Minah’s voice suddenly sounded so sad and cheerless

unlike before.

 

“There’s nothing like ‘I know him more than you’ or such thing. Joon won’t bother about that. He really loves you. Believe

me” she reassured her.

 

“I know. But after this we are going to have a different stage in life, marriage phase. After a long time, we will live together.

What if I can’t keep up with him? Or we found ourselves aren’t fitting to each other?” she asked again. Hyosung could see

anxiety in her wary eyes.

 

“Minah, you can learn. I mean, learn him. Take your soon-to-be-marriage life as a learning process.  He will appreciate that and

accept who you are” Hyosung tried to sound as convincing as she could.

 

She felt amused with herself since she was able to give that kind of advice since she did not believe in marriage or love

relationship whatsoever. But she did not want her principle to influence Minah since she knew different people have different

kind of idea in life. If Minah deemed happiness can be found through marriage, of course Hyosung will respect that.

 

“Oh...you’re so inspiring!” Minah grabbed Hyosung’s hands. She felt a little bit better after talking to Hyosung.

 

“Haha..inspiring? I’m not!”

 

“But still, that’s so nice of you for listening to my problem. Ahh.. Joon is so lucky to have you as his best friend!” she said in

jealousy tone.

 

“You can be my best friend too!”

 

“Really? Since we’re BFF now, you can be my spy!” Minah snapped her fingers.

 

“Hahaha..spy?” Hyosung almost choked her drink.

 

“Yeah..you can report to me if he flirts around with girls. I would like you to kick or punch him for me!”

 

“I’d like to do that!” she laughed as she showed her fist.

 

“Hahaha...Thank you, Hyosung. I had fun talking to you, seriously” Minah said truthfully.  To her, Hyosung was so friendly

and she treated her like they knew for years.

 

“Me too!”

 

“But I was just kidding about that spy, kicking part..! I trust him. He won’t betray me, right?” Minah asked for her reassurance

again even though she was positive about that. Joon was not someone who likes to fool around with girls.

 

“Of course. He won’t! Believe me!” Hyosung smiled as she placed her palm to her chest.

 

“Hyosung..Promise me that you will take care of him when I’m not around? Please?” she pleaded as she tightly grabbed

Hyosung’s hand once again. This time she looked so serious, no more playfulness in her face.

 

“I promise!” she nodded her head and stared into her eyes. She promised to herself that she wanted to make his best friend’s

fiancé felt happy. She won’t break that promise. Her friend’s happiness is her happiness too.

 

“I know that I can rely on you!” Minah hugged her again. Her eyes were glowing with hopes and relief.

 

“How dare you abandon your own fiancé?” Joon suddenly chimed in. He sat on empty chair, followed by Jonghyun.

 

“I’m sorry, Mr. Engaged. I think my new best friend is more fun than you” Minah exclaimed. Hyosung and Jonghyun just

laughed at the couple.

She inhaled deeply Port-au-Prince cold night air while waiting for Yura, her friend at the bank. They went to shop some things

separately and they promised to meet back there. She messaged her again, asking her to be quick. She was kind of scared since

she was alone. She unlocked her phone one more time to read her new received texts.

 

 She took a glance at her fingers. ‘Ah..I forgot to wear my ring again!’ she mumbled to herself. Her mind went around recalling

the great evening she had on her engagement day without realizing there were two pair of wild eyes checking her out. It

happened so fast when two guys wearing masks dragged her to a hidden corner in a dark alley. She wanted to scream but they

were faster as they put cloth to . She started to feel dizzy and her body grew weaker. In no minute, her sight went

dark and her mind went blank.
