“Aigoo...Hyosung-ah..My cute Hyosung!” Mrs. Lee excitedly hugged her at the front door.  Last night, Joon texted Hyosung, 

inviting her for a lunch at this place and he mentioned about he wanted to show off his cooking skill. Hah! Funny! He even

asked his maid just to boil some water. “Joon? Cooking? Yeah..right..” Hyosung thought in disbelief.

 

“Why you were late?” Joon showed up, leaned his back on the door. Mrs. Lee just lightly shook her head at both of them and

went inside.

 

“Come on Joon..It is lunch hour.  Heavy traffic. What else?”

 

“Ahh...really?”  he blocked the doorway with both his hands, not allowing Hyosung to enter the house. She lightly pushed his

body while Joon was struggling inside, holding his laugh.

 

“Joon! I’m hungry” she said, felt slightly annoyed with his antics.

 

“You can’t eat unless you answer my question first” he grinned.

 

“What question?”

 

“You had a date with Jonghyun, didn’t you?” he playfully wriggled his eyebrows. Hyosung did tell him about her meeting her

ex-classmate. But dating? No. Joon used this opportunity just to .

 

“Ack...!” he winced in pain as Hyosung smacked hard his chest with her handbag.

 

“Served you right!” Hyosung laughed, making her way to the living room. She was warmly welcomed by Joon’s elder brother,

Joon Young and his wife, Yoo Mi who were comfortably watching TV on the couch.

 

“Hyosung noona!!!” a kid ran towards her. It was totally a different reaction from Jihoon compared to when they first met at the

dentist before. Hyosung laughed and ruffled his hair.

 

“Hyosung noona, are you hungry? I’m hungry too..But I’m not sure whether we can eat..ya know..Uncle Joon didn’t know

how to cook..Grandma nagged at him because he turned the kitchen into a mess ..I was afraid he might burn down this house”

he couldn’t stop talking.

 

“Hahaha...really?” she let out a small laugh, followed by Jihoon’s parents.

 

“Yahh..Jihoon-ah!” Joon pinched his chubby cheeks and carried him on his shoulder, leading their way to the kitchen. Hyousung

carefully pulled the chair beside Joon.

 

“Are you serious, Joon? You cooked all these dishes?” she curiously asked at him.  The table was full with sort of dishes. These

fried tofu kimchi, beef deopbabp, radish soup, butter bean, spicy friend squid and jap chae really tempted her. There was also a

jar of fresh orange juice which made her swallowed her saliva. Food definitely was Hyosung weakness!

 

“Of course!” he grinned, felt proud with his effort today.

 

“Ayyyy,,I doubt that! Auntie, you helped him don’t you?” this time she asked Mrs. Lee.

 

“No, I didn’t help him at all. I just monitored him from afar” she smiled.

 

“Joon Young oppa?”

 

“I’d rather watch movies or play games” he laughed. “This can’t be true!” Hyosung was still in disbelief. She looked at Mr. Lee

and he quickly shook his head. Everyone laughed at her. But that was the truth! Joon did all the cooking by himself.

 

“Wait! Wait! Yoo Mi noona, you made this dessert, right?” she pointed her finger at read bean porridge.

 

“Eat first and judge later, will you?” Joon suddenly stuffed Mung Bean rice cake into . Everyone at the table looked at

her. She slowly chewed it, savouring the taste.

 

 1 minute.

 

2 minutes.

 

3 minutes.

 

But there’s still no response from her.

 

“I give 9 out of 10!” she smiled. It indeed tasted so good.

 

“Yours is invalid! My mom gave me full marks!” Joon protested.

 

“When will you guys stop talking? I’m hungry!” Jihoon said in half-crying voice and making everyone burst into a big laugh.  

That day lunch was filled with happy chat among them.

 

“Hmm..I want to make an announcement here..” Joon put down his chopsticks. All eyes were narrowed at him. Curious. Joon

cleared his throat and took a deep breath.

 

“I was thinking that I want to get engaged. Yes, engagement!” he nervously smiled.

 

“What??!!” everyone chorused.

“Engagement? What was that Joon? Who is Minah? How about Hyosung?” his mom demanded some explanation from him,

together with a series of questions right after Hyosung’s car left their house. Yoo Mi went upstairs with sleepy Jihoon. Joon

followed by his mom sat on the couch. Both his dad and brother were there too, looking at him with a curios look. He let out

another big sigh.

 

“Aii..this son..he almost gave me heart attack” Mrs. Lee looked at her husband.

 

“Calm down. Let him explain, okay?” Mr. Lee patted her back.

 

“First of all, I’m sorry..I’m so sorry..I should have told you guys earlier”

 

“We thought you’re marrying..hmm Hyosung?” his dad boldly said. Joon Young nodded his head in agreement.

 

“No..We’re just friend. We’re not dating!” he firmly beamed. Who says a friendship between a guy and a girl is impossible?

 

“You guys are making me confused” Mrs. Lee gently massaged her temples.

 

“So tell us about Minah... Minah, right?” Joon Young shot him a question about the girl he loves. He felt like laughing just

looking at how nervous Joon was. It somehow reminded him about the day he told his families that he wanted to get married 

because Yoo Mi was pregnant. “Such a devaju” he thought. But the differences are theirs was a shotgun marriage and his mom

knew well about his relationship with Yoo Mi. For Joon’s case, it was first time he mentioned Minah in front of them and that

was quite shocking news especially for his mom.

 

“She’s a doctor too, working as a volunteer with humanitarian aid organisation”

 

“Do you mean...hmm..she’s not here?” his mom asked in a low voice.

 

“Ahhh..She’s in Haiti. She still have 6 months contract but she’s coming back here for holidays. So i was thinking that would be

perfect timing for us to get engaged first and then marry her right after she ends her service there” he carefully explained. Deep

inside, he hoped that his families will support his decision.

 

“Then how about Hyosung?” her mom still couldn’t stop thinking about his close friend. She do really likes everything about

Hyosung. In fact, the whole Joon’s families do. For her, she is a beauty with a great personality. She even treated her like her

own daughter. She once mentioned to her husband that Hyosung is a perfect candidate for Joon’s wife-to-be and Mr. Lee even

agreed with her.

 

“Look mom, she does already know about me and Minah. We’re BFF, remember?” he calmly smiled.

 

“Honey, stop. I know you like Hyosung and honestly I like her to be a part of our families too.. But this is our son’s future..We

have to respect his decision, right?” Mr. Lee hold his wife hands, hoping she would understand.

 

And three minutes of silence slipped in.

 

“I’m sorry Joon..Aigoo..my son..I will give you my blessings..” his  mom hugged him tight after she can see sincerity in Joon’s

eyes.

 

*Later at night*

 

Joon just had his shower when he heard his phone rang.

 

“Joon”

 

“Call me Mr. Engaged!” his lips curved into a smile.

 

“Joon”

 

“Wait! Are you crying? Wait for me, I’ll go to your place!” his smiled dead right after he ended the phone call. He quickly got

dressed, grabbed his car key and went downstairs. He switched on the engine, and drove off to Hyosung’s apartment.
