Part I
Salvation
A/N: Decided to post this in small segments, will post next part tomorrow very soon. Very, VERY soon...Because just leaving something this short and going off again for like a few more weeks makes me feel guilty.
When man first committed murder, mankind had sealed its fate to the path of self-destruction.
It became man’s nature to destroy, to soil, to obliterate, to take. Man pillaged and plundered until there was nothing left to take to satisfy their selfish needs. Man operated in groups, but when an opportune moment pops up where they can benefit for themselves, they will take the chance regardless of the consequences to their surroundings.
Mankind was tainted by the devil’s temptation, greed, selfishness, pride, lust—every sin imaginable, mankind has committed. They were set on the path of destruction and self-love. Mankind cared for no one but themselves in the most critical moments. Of course, there were those who found enlightenment in the path of god, but those made little difference to those who reveled in the path of destruction.
Satisfaction was a fallacy. It was human nature to never be satisfied with what one had. Mankind always yearned for more, and more, and more until there was nothing left to satisfy them. They would destroy nations to get what they wanted. They would kill, steal, and lie. They would selfishly sacrifice others to get their way.
That was why Junjin thought the broken and dying city of Seoul a perfect reflection of human’s filthy nature.
Rubble and trash littered the empty streets. The once bright blue sky was a dull shade of grey. High-rise buildings mangled and broken to unrecognizable shapes, sharp glass shards strewn around them. Once green plants were shriveled up and withered. Thick, sickly green smog constantly loomed overhead, as if waiting; waiting patiently until the last ones finally succumbs to its toxins and strangle them in a slow, painful death. The stench of death and destruction could seep even through the smallest crevices.
Seoul the vibrant city full of life and activity was no more. Seoul the health-hazard of a ghost town was all that was left.
Junjin thought Seoul was a perfect example of the amount of destruction human greed could cause. War and conflict had killed the city. Human greed and selfishness sparked war and conflict. Therefore, human greed and selfishness killed the city Junjin once loved.
But, Junjin figured there was no escaping human nature.
Junjin himself was no saint. He preferred his own safety and life to others’. He would not give out favors unless there was something in return. He was a hypocrite, and he admitted it. He chided mankind for giving into their greed and selfishness, while he himself was no different. A strange need to taint and destroy what was pure often washed over him and dragging him by the ankles to the deepest abyss of the human heart.
Junjin didn’t remember when he gave into the darkest side of his mind, but he definitely remembered why.
And for that very reason, Junjin found himself loathing human’s need for companionship.
