Chapter 3

Unwanted II: The Chaser

[A/N: Still going through your suggested names for the "YOU" character. I was thinking of using the name only when 'you' have to be addressed. But the narrations and others will remain as 'YOU' since others did not want to change it. :) Thank you guys! for the support and love!

And since our Namu released a duet song, I inserted a new character here! Tadah!]

It was as if your heart skipped a beat. Why KSG does send you a race in your heartbeat? It wasn’t as if you can clearly understand the English alphabet but those letters rather really something familiar. It remained a question as you finally reached your designated floor.

You just followed most of the people and entered a hall. You were into this—you were determined to get trained and prove yourself to Mrs. Nam. You are definitely going to get Woohyun back. No matter how long it might take.

You sat in one of the chairs gathered in a hall. Then the familiar English alphabet letters appeared everywhere in the wallpaper of the hall—KSG. You knew, actually everyone knew, that this is the Nam Company and there’s just definitely no KSG there. It does ring a bell—a bell that’s too far away for you to even think deeper of what it could probably meant. So you decided to just focus on the seminar that’s about to start.

“Hey, I’m Lucia. You’re from Korea too, right?” A lady beside you offered a handshake and you took it.

“I’m ________.” You smiled at her. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“Yeah, well actually, maybe we’ll be seeing each other more often.” She winked at you and you both laughed. “Actually, I stayed here in America for a long time and never really got back in Korea. But I think this company will help me go back to my country.”

“Really? That’s interesting.” You smiled again at her. “I hope you get what you hope for. Korea is a nice place to be left behind.”

“I kind of know that.” She said. “I spent my childhood there and not being able to go back and even say goodbye to the people I left behind—wait, I shouldn’t be telling you all of these.” She let out a soft laugh. “I’m sorry.”

“No, it’s fine.” You looked at her, “I definitely understand.”

“So how about you? What’s your dibs on this company?”

You wanted to tell her because you really need someone to talk to for the past few days. But you just got to know her right at that moment. “It’s a long story, and nothing special, actually.” You avoided her gaze.

“Oh, really? That’s cool.”

“Yeah, I just want to work. That’s all.” You looked back at her. “Well, I really have this question I had since I got here today.”

“What is it?”

“What’s with those letters on the wall?” You looked at the wall around the hall. “It’s intriguing me.”

Lucia looked at them too, “Oh, I didn’t notice that. But probably, it has something to do with the CEO or, I don’t know, an upcoming project?”

“Upcoming project…” You slightly nodded your head. “Yeah, an upcoming project. What was I thinking?” You mumbled to yourself.

“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to Nam Training Center for Employees!” The speaker finally introduced himself. You listened attentively to every word he was saying. He introduced the company and its background, its successes and current projects and some statistics but out of all the things he was saying—he never spoke about the CEO of the company.

What is so mysterious about this Nam Company?

“You should go home, Woohyun.” Changmin patted his back. “Aren’t you off from work?”

“I was supposed to be off now.” He said and took the coffee he ordered from the counter. “But I really have tons of work to do at the office and a coffee will really be a good company to me.”

“What’s with all the work? I told you, just go and chase your lover.”

Woohyun stopped and looked at his hyung, “You think she still feels the same way? I mean—if that was me, after all that happened, I will let go and move on—“

“That’s not the person I knew of. She’s loyal and kind and—everything you just love.” Changmin said with admiration. “So you really need to go after her.”

“She wanted to go away, alright? I’m leaving her be for the mean time. I need time on my own too.”

“Oh, what happened to the bratty Nam Woohyun before? You’re suddenly now into all the office works—?” Changmin teased and Woohyun just laughed then his phone suddenly rang.

“Because of the devil.” He muttered but Changmin clearly heard it and knew what he meant. “I’ll take this call. Thanks for the coffee, hyung!” He answered the call and left the coffee shop. Changmin just sighed at the sight of Woohyun leaving his shop. He shook his head when his phone suddenly rang.

He took it and answered, “Yes, Sunggyu-shi.”

“What’s with the rush, Mom? A few minutes ago, I just went out to grab some coffee—actually I was supposed to get some dinner too but why did you just have to call me back to the office?” Woohyun said in breath when he entered his mother’s office.

His mother just looked at him while sitting on her chair. “Have a sit.”

“No, Mom. I’m fine. Just tell me what is so important that I had to go back.” Woohyun said and remained standing in front of her mother’s table.

“Tomorrow, the list of new trainees from New York will be released. You know your brother’s working hard—“

“I know that.”

“And I want you to do the same.” Mrs. Nam looked at Woohyun who seemed to still be angry at her. “We’ll divide the accepted trainees at the end of their training sessions in New York’s Nam Company and here in Korea. So I’m just reminding you to keep monitoring the updates from New York about the trainees.”

“Of course I would do that. I know my work, Mom. Just so you know.” Woohyun said and was about to leave when Mrs. Nam stopped him.

“Actually, I called you because I wanted to check on you. To see how you’re doing.” She said. Woohyun looked back at her.

“Well you have to be thankful I’ve grown strong enough not to be miserable again, Mom.” Woohyun stepped closer to her. “I really do hope that you are not involved in anything that’s going on why ________ left Korea. Because if you are, I don’t know how I will be able to handle it.”

Mrs. Nam avoided his gaze for a second and looked back at him, “Well I’m not. What makes you think that way?”

“Because you never really wanted my happiness—you only wanted yours.” That was enough to shut Mrs. Nam. Woohyun left her office and guilt filled her mind. However, she believed that soon, Woohyun would forget about you too. It would take time but that wouldn’t matter anymore as long as he would be happy with someone else instead and focus on his work. This was the Woohyun she wanted back—a hardworking Woohyun like Sunggyu.

Woohyun just sat on his chair inside his office and stared in front of his laptop that was filled with your pictures with him when you were still together. How is possible to love you when you weren’t even married in the first place? He was thinking that everything was indeed an accident but was fated. Your best friend set you up to marry him in her place and everything did fall into the right places. And for a second there, he thought, he found something so genuine. He was in love. And after a heartbreak he never thought he could overcome, you were the reason behind the feeling he felt for you. It was always you since you came to his life.

He just had to wait a little longer. And he would never lose his hopes for you. You’ll come back. And if you wouldn’t soon, he’ll chase after you.

While staring at the screen of his laptop, he thought he heard some noise outside. He ignored it until his door swung open, he was too startled that he had to shut his laptop.

“HyunA?” He sat up straight and then he stood up. “W-what are you doing here?”

HyunA stepped inside, “He wanted to see you so badly.” Together with her was Chanyoung. “I couldn’t bear seeing him cry.”

Chanyoung cutely ran towards Woohyun. He picked the little boy up in his arms. “How are you, my boy?” Chanyoung just clapped his hands as cutely as he already was. “It’s been a while. Thanks for bringing him to me.”

“It’s nothing. Actually, he’s been looking for ________ too.” Hyuna admitted and Woohyun looked down and just focused on Chanyoung instead. “I really do hope for both of you to get back together—“

“It’s fine, HyunA.” Woohyun. “I don’t need you to feel sorry for me. I’m used to the feeling of being left behind.”

HyunA fell silent for a while. “Woohyun, I’m sorry.” And for once, after a long while, Woohyun saw nothing but sincerity in her eyes.

“It’s kind of late. You should get going. Chanyoung must be happy to have seen me—“

“No, I’m fine. Actually he really wanted to spend time with you, so I was thinking maybe…” She bit her lips.

“He can stay with me?” Woohyun laughed softly. “Of course, he can stay with me. Right, Chanyoung-ah?” He pinched his nephew’s nose.

“Alright, thank you, Woohyun.” HyunA said. “I guess I’ll be leaving now.”

“Drive safely.” Woohyun reminded before HyunA smiled again and left.

Woohyun turned back to Chanyoung in his arms, “Hey, man. Isn’t it late for you to stay up? Let’s get you to sleep.” He carried him and left his office.

Sunggyu just got off from a phone call when Jongup entered his office. “Hey, Sunggyu-shi.”

“Neh?” Sunggyu closed the folder of documents he was reading and looked at Jongup who handed him another documents.

“This is the list of the trainees.” Jongup said. “Do you want me to get you something? Coffee?”

“Thanks. But I’ll be dropping by the shop later.”

“Wow, first time, sir?” Jongup teased.

“I just wanted to check on it. The owner wants me to do so.” Sunggyu said while skimming through the names of the trainees. “Anyway, thanks for this.”

Jongup nodded, “Sure, boss. With the number of trainees, you think Nam Company can finally open here in New York?”

“I really hope so.”

“And I suppose your brother will work here?”

“I had a joke with him about this before—he has to open five companies in Asia before I can let him step in New York’s Nam Company.” Sunggyu chuckled with Jongup and flipped the pages of the documents that Jongup handed to him.
