L. JOE'S POV

It’s Wednesday.

I’m going to confess to her later. I thought happily.

Right now, we’re at the park.

I’m currently setting up the table and the candles while talking to a Pororo mascot on the phone.

Maeri wanted something she wouldn’t imagine, so, I’m thinking of hiring Pororo.

While Maeri’s arranging the flowers and balloons which were lying on the ground.

I was looking at her.

I just can’t imagine her reaction later. I thought as I smiled.

“Everything’s okay here.” She said as she stood up and stretched her back.

“Can I go home now?” she added.

“You can’t. Stay here. I’ll, introduce you to her.” I reasoned out.

Duh. If she goes away, who will I confess to? I thought.

“Hello? It’s getting late.” She said irritatedly.

“Why can’t you just wait?” I asked her while I was setting the candles.

“Sorry. I can’t.” She said with a glare.

“Will you please just wait?” I said as I looked at her sharply.

She just looked at me.

“In 10 mins, we’ll start.” I declared as I put my phone on my pocket and breathed deeply.

“I’m not even involved here. Just let me go home!” She exclaimed as she stomped away.

“Wait! You can’t go home!” I exclaimed as I ran to her.

“I can go home. And I will go home!” she answered without looking at me.

She’s mad. I wonder what happened.

I haven’t done anything wrong right?

“Hey, what’s the matter?” I asked as I held her hand.

“What’s the matter? I don’t get the point why I have to be here and witness you confessing to the girl you love!” She said as tears started to form in her eyes.

My heart softened.

“Maeri, you have to be here because----“

“Because what? You want me to see you be happy with another girl? Is that what you want? Fine! I can’t do it! Now let me go!” she exclaimed as she cried.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” I asked as I wiped her tears but she pushed my hand away.

Why did she have to cry?

I messed up. I thought as I shook my head.

“You’re asking me what’s wrong? What’s wrong here is that I can’t be happy for you. It hurts when you told me you have someone you like. It hurt more when you asked me to help you to confess. And if I will see her, that’ll only bring me pain. Why can’t you get it Byunghun? Are you that thick headed?” she asked me.

“I won’t get it if you won’t tell it to me!” I exclaimed.

“I’m in love with you! I want to go home because I don’t want to see you being happy in another girl’s arms!” She exclaimed at me then she ran away.

Her words stunned me for a moment.

Park Maeri loves me.

She loves me. I thought happily as I turned to her.

She was already running away.

I have to catch up to her and tell her she’s the girl I love.

But she’s a fast runner.

I only have short legs. This is my disadvantage.

“Maeri!” I exclaimed.

She didn’t look back.

Oh no, she’s crossing the pedestrian.

The green light is going to turn red.

If it turns to red, I’ll lose her.

She’s on the other street now.

Why did she have to run so fast? I thought while running.

The light turned red.

. I cursed.

I’ll just run faster. I thought as I ran but then,

“Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!”

A loud sound of engine horn was heard after the crash.

Byunghun’s POV

As soon as I ran towards Maeri even though the light turned red,

A car honked at me.

Everything was so fast.

I couldn’t even move a muscle.

It was like my feet were glued to the ground.

“Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!”

A loud crashing sound was heard.

Because of the impact, I rolled on the road.

My muscles are hurting.

I could feel my blood dripping down from my head.

I can’t even move.

But I have to find Maeri. I thought as I tried to breathe.

People started to gather around the scene.

“Look at him!”

“Oh no he’s bloody”

“Someone help him!”

“Get the car’s plate number!”

I can hear many voices.

It made my head hurt.

Suddenly,

 “Byunghun!” A voice called.

“It’s Maeri.” I whispered to myself as a small smile appeared on my face.

She went to me and held me tight.

Even though my whole body ached when she hugged me, I didn’t complain.

I wanted her to hug me. So, I just let my whole body shiver in pain.

I stared at her face.

She’s trying to hold her tears.

“I’m sorry.” She said almost choking at her words.

Don’t cry. I thought.

“You…we’re.. running so… fast. I couldn’t…catch up since…my….legs we’re… short.” I said as I smiled at her.

I was trying to talk normally, but my breathing quickens.

With that she bursted into tears.

I’m really an idiot.

Maybe it’ll be better if I didn’t talk.

Stop crying. I thought as I stared at her.

 “You’re ..crying. D-don’t. Dongho..will kill..me.” I said as he slowly as I tried to reach for her lovely face.

“I’m not crying.” She said as she tried to smile.

Everything went blurred.

I blinked and blinked.

“Maeri,..it’s we..ird. I can’t…see your..face. It’s…blurred.” I said as I was still trying to reach her face.

With that, she held my hand and put it on her left cheek.

“Come on, let’s go. I’ll bring you to the hospital.” She said as she was trying to help me get up.

I don’t know if I can reach the hospital alive.

So, I thought I’ll just tell her my feelings here.

I held her hand and stopped her from helping me to get up.

“I…was so …happy when…you told…me that… you love …me. That..means no… girl in ..this worl..d can res..ist my c..harms.” I said as I grinned.

“You’re such a jerk. I hate you so much.” She said as she wiped her tears away and pretended to be angry.

I breathed deeply.

I prepared for my confession but it’ll just end up like this?

God must be punishing me for being so handsome.

I closed my eyes.

I really have to tell it to Maeri.

But I can’t find the exact words to describe how I feel.

So, I was hoping she’d understand me.

“M…aeri…I………” I wasn’t able to finish what I was saying because I coughed blood.

“Let’s go. Please.” Maeri pleaded.

It was too late.

My eyes are slowly closing.

And my whole body went numb.

Everything went black.

“Byunghun?” Maeri asked while crying and trying to wake him up by shaking him.

He wouldn’t budge.

“Byunghun!” I exclaimed.

It’s all because of me.

If only I didn’t interfere.

If only I didn’t run away, this wouldn’t happen. I thought as I was staring at him.

“Yah!Wake up. Wake up. Byunghun-ah!” I whispered as I tried to wake him up but nothing happened.

All I can do is cry.
