MAERI'S POV

It’s the 5^th of April. Wednesday.

Byunghun’s going to confess to the girl she likes.

And I’m here helping him set up his confession.

I was dragged here because he said he needs my help.

Right now, we’re at the park.

I was arranging the flowers and balloons on the floor.

I don’t get it. Why do I have to be here?

He has so many friends. Why does it have to be me?

I glanced at him.

He’s currently setting up the table and the candles while talking to someone on the phone.

He looked really happy.

Maybe it’s the girl he likes.

With that, my heart ached.

I guess I need to go home.

 “Everything’s okay here.” I said as I stood up and stretched my back.

I want to get out of this place as soon as possible.

“Can I go home now?” I added.

“You can’t. Stay here. I’ll, introduce you to her.” He demanded me.

“Hello? It’s getting late.” I said irritatedly.

“Why can’t you just wait?” He asked me while he was arranged the candles.

“Sorry. I can’t.” I said as I glared at him.

“Will you please just wait?” he said as he looked at me sharply.

I just stared at him in defeat.

“In 10 mins, we’ll start.” He declared as he put his phone on his pocket and breathed deeply.

“I’m not even involved here. Just let me go home!” I exclaimed as I walked away.

“Wait! You can’t go home!” He exclaimed as he ran to me

“I can go home. And I will go home!” I answered without looking at him.

I have to go away before she comes.

I don’t want to see her.

I don’t want to see them.

It’ll only bring pain to me.

“Hey, what’s the matter?” he asked as he held my hand.

“What’s the matter? I don’t get the point why I have to be here and witness you confessing to the girl you love!” I said as tears started to form in my eyes.

My heart aches.

Why can’t he just get it?

“Maeri, you have to be here because----“

“Because what? You want me to see you be happy with another girl? Is that what you want? Fine! I can’t do it! Now let me go!” I exclaimed as tears started streaming down my cheeks.

“Hey, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” he asked as he wiped my tears but I pushed his hand away.

He doesn’t even like me.

Why does he have to be this sweet?

He’s only making me fall for him more.

I really have to go.

“You’re asking me what’s wrong? What’s wrong here is that I can’t be happy for you. It hurts when you told me you have someone you like. It hurt more when you asked me to help you to confess. And if I will see her, that’ll only bring me pain. Why can’t you get it Byunghun? Are you that thick headed?” I asked him.

“I won’t get it if you won’t tell it to me!” he exclaimed.

“I’m in love with you! I want to go home because I don’t want to see you being happy in another girl’s arms!” I exclaimed as I ran away.

Argh. This is so embarrassing.

Why did I have to shout it to him?

Why didn’t I just lie about being okay?

Why is he so thick headed?

Why did I have to be here?

Why did he have to love another girl?

“Maeri!” I heard him exclaim.

He was probably running after me.

So, I ran faster.

I didn’t look back.

It’ll only cause more pain.

Instead, I crossed the pedestrian.

The green light is going to turn red.

The light is turning to red.

With that, he wouldn’t be able to run after me.

I’m on the other side of the road now.

 “Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!”

A loud sound of engine horn was heard after a crash.

People started to gather around the scene.

“Look at him!”

“Oh no he’s bloody”

“Someone help him!”

“Get the car’s plate number!”

Maeri’s POV

I heard a loud crashing sound. Followed by the people’s voices.

It can’t be Byunghun right? I thought as I looked back.

I slowly walked to the scene which was crowded by the passer bys.

Then, I saw him.

It was Lee Byunghun.

He was hit by the car.

He’s lying on the roadside while his blood was everywhere.

“Byunghun!” I exclaimed as I ran to him and cradled him in my arms.

His face was bloody and his breathing was not steady.

“I’m sorry.” I said as I tried to hold back my tears but I couldn’t.

It’s my fault.

“You…we’re.. running so… fast. I couldn’t…catch up since…my….legs we’re… short.” He said as he smiled.

It made me cry more.

His voice was hoarse.

It was clear enough that he’s in pain.

How can he still smile? I thought as I cried.

“You’re ..crying. D-don’t. Dongho..will kill..me.” he said as he slowly tried to reach for my face.

“I’m not crying.” I said as I tried to smile.

“Maeri,…it’s we..ird. I can’t….see your..face. It’s…blurred.” He said as his hand was still trying to reach my face.

I held his hand and put it on my cheek.

“Come on, let’s go. I’ll bring you to the hospital.” I said as I was helping him to get up.

But he held my hand. He stopped me.

“I…was so …happy when…you told…me that… you love …me. That..means no… girl in ..this worl..d can res..ist my c..harms.” He said as he grinned.

“You’re such a jerk. I hate you so much.” I said as I wiped my tears away.

“M…aeri…I………” he wasn’t able to finish what he was saying because he coughed out blood.

“Let’s go. Please.” I pleaded.

I have to bring him to the hospital.

He slowly closed his eyes and he never talked again.

“Byunghun?” I while crying and trying to wake him up by shaking him.

He wouldn’t budge.

“Byunghun!” I exclaimed.

It’s all because of me.

If only I didn’t interfere.

If only I didn’t run away, this wouldn’t happen. I thought as I was staring at him.

“Yah! Wake up. Wake up. Byunghun-ah!” I whispered as I tried to wake him up but nothing happened.
