Chapter 01.

Our Protector

Yoonji continued to stab the mannequins with a dagger as someone approached her. She felt their presence and swiftly pointed the dagger at their face.

“Oh! Boss. Hello!” she immediately withdrew the dagger and bowed with a smile.

Yoonji was only a little girl when she first met the Boss. She still doesn't even know his name. She was just a small orphan, crying in the rain at a park when she got lost. That's where he found her. She was only 7 years old. He took her under his roof and raised her like his own daughter.

One day, he decided to show her around the headquarters where the fighters are trained. He saw the sparkle in her eyes when she saw a man shoot his gun straight at the target. He knew she was made for this so that very exact day, her training began.

“Yoonji-ah, my best fighter,” he smiled and patted her head.

“Is there anything I can help you with?” she asked him.

“Congratulations!” he yelled with open arms.

Yoonji stood there confused. Boss never hugs me.

“We have just assigned you your first mission!”

Tears welled up in Yoonji's eyes and she hugged him back. Trainee's never get their first mission until about 5 years after they've trained. Yoonji has been training for 10 years and she hasn't had one mission. Not even a 'can you get me some coffee' task. All she did was train, train, train.

“Thank you! Thank you! You won't regret this! So who is it? Who do I kill?” she bombarded him with questions, eager to know her first mission.

“It's a special mission. One where you'll be gone for quite a while. Don't tell anyone. They'll be so jealous they might kill you first,” he winked.

Assassin humor. Funny.

She laughed. “As if they could.”

After receiving all the information Yoonji needed to complete the mission, she walked back to the training center where all the future assassin's were training. She sighed as she sat down at a bench used for weight lifting.

Myungsoo, her best friend, smirked as he saw her holding the folder.

“Hey squirt, finally got your first mission, aye?” he nudged her.

“Yeah...” she sighed again.

“Why the long face? Who'd you get? I won't tell anyone,” he said, leaning his face towards hers.

Yoonji raised an eyebrow at him. “Rule number fifty-seven. Never, I mean never, tell a companion your tasks.”

Myungsoo scoffed.

Yoonji pushed his face away from hers. “Go away. You're all sweaty and smell like a locker room.”

“Jerk...so when do you start your task?”

“Tonight.”

“Okay. My mission is tonight too. I'll see you tomorrow then. Hwaiting!” he said and waved to her.

Yoonji was about to tell him that she wouldn't be seeing him until a long time, but he was already out the door. Myungsoo was always a fast runner. Hence why he gets all the missions that potentially involve cops.

“Hwaiting...”

Lee Soo Man pulled all of the EXO boys from their practice to the large conference room with their managers and coordinators.

“Hyung, do you know what's going on?” D.O asked Suho.

Suho shook his head.

They sat down with nervous faces, wondering why the CEO had called a meeting. It was really rare for them to attend them. Normally only the managers did.

Lee Soo Man entered and they all stood and bowed to him before sitting down.

“Okay, I've called you all here today to announce your comeback.”

The boys looked at each other and smiled.

“But for this time around, it won't be EXO-K and EXO-M. It will be EXO.”

All of the boys hollered. Sehun and Lu Han hugged each other, happy that they won't be separated.

Out of curiosity, Xiu Min asked, “Why will this comeback be all 12?”

“We just want you guys to be altogether for the time being. The fans seem to like 12 of you together. So this is what we've decided for this promotion cycle. It's a lot easier too,” he told them.

The boys nodded. The logic made sense to them. They didn't know the real hidden meaning of the reason though.

“So our writers and composers are working on your album now. Your title song has been chosen already though and recording will start next week while our choreographers work on the dance. We're going for the bad-boy image with you know, the leather jackets and such. The follow-up promotions will be a cute concept. We'll have the coordinators work on that. Any other details will be given to you later. For now, just continue practice,” he said and stood up. The meeting was incredibly short. Lee Soo Man is a busy man after all.

Everyone stood and bowed again as he left. Once the door closed the boys stood up and cheered.

“Comeback!” Chanyeol's deep voice filled the room.

Kai started to bust out in random dance moves as Baekhyun sang the highest note he could manage.

The coordi noonas were already starting to brainstorm ideas for their outfits and make-up. Leather jackets. Ripped jeans. Biker boots. And guy-liner. Lots of guy-liner.

The members walked back to their practice room with smiles on their faces. Suddenly their manager got a call that their practice room was relocated to a more secluded place. The members didn't think of it as anything. They just thought he rented a larger place since they'll be practicing as 12 for the time being. It took 3 vans for all of them to fit and they left the SM building to their new practice room. It was in Seoul but it was underground. The door was practically covered in graffiti. No one would never find it.

“Is this kinda scary. I wonder if there are ghosts...” Tao muttered, clinging to Kris's arm.

“I like it. It's very...” Chen couldn't find the right words.

Baekhyun and Chanyeol looked at each other and smirked.

“Bad ,” they said together while nodding.

They all walked in and the light was already on. It was incredibly hot in the room than outside which was a bummer since it was already over 80 degrees outside.

The practice room was about the same size as the one back at SM. The mirror was along the whole perimeter of the room and there was a bench in the back corner and a speaker.

D.O's eyes widened when he saw a figure sitting on it, staring at them.

They found it a little strange that she was wearing a large trench coat in the spring.

“Who's that?” Lay asked, nodding at the stranger.

“Beats me...” Lu Han replied.

“Oh my God! It's a ghost!” Tao gasped.

Everyone ignored him.

“I don't know. But she's prettyyyy~” Chanyeol whispered while swaying back and forth.

Yoonji stood up and bowed to them. “Annyonghaseyo, I'm-” she froze.

Rule number 2: Keep your identity a secret.

“Your..?” Suho edged on.

Luckily for Yoonji, her Boss had given her a fake name. She facepalmed a little when she read it but it was believable. Sort of.

“I'm Baek Duki.”

“Duki?” Xiu Min repeated.

The members couldn't help but laugh.

“Why are you here, Duki?” Sehun asked with a chuckle.

“That's none of your business,” she said. It was totally their business to know that killers are after them, but orders are orders. She couldn't tell them.

The atmosphere in the room died at her reply.

Their managers, who were totally aware of her purpose, tried to dodge the situation.

“Okay okay guys. Stop standing around and practice.”

The boys obliged and started to stand in their positions for the beginning of History. They all eyed her with suspicious looks but she just ignored them. She was alert for any strange activity. She didn't want to fail in her first mission. 10 years of training would be down the drain.

She watched as all of them danced. There was one tall one with a bright smile that stood out to her the most. Or maybe it's because he was always in the back so she had no choice but to look at him. She didn't really know.

In the beginning of MAMA, they got on their knees and waited for the music to start. The tall one met eyes with Yoonji for a split second and she looked down immediately.

Yoonji was never really around boys much in her life. If she was, they were always waving swords at her or pointing their guns in her direction. The only boy she ever spoke to was Myungsoo, and he was only her friend so this was a new experience for her. She scanned their faces and realized that they were all relatively handsome. Of course they are. They're idols.

If they knew her, they'd come to realize that she was too intimidating for them. Indeed, she could kill them in a split second if she tried. But she wouldn't. That would defeat the purpose of the whole mission.

Then she remembered the last order that was given to her.

Don't fall in love.

She shook her head. She was too strong for any of them anyways. Especially the tall one. Yeah.

Well, maybe.
