Chapter Four

                Hyunjae immediately left the classroom and some other classmates followed

“Woah this is awesome, we get to see Park Eunmi in action!” “I heard that she’s a really strong girl” “She really is! She’s even stronger than Hyunjae-ssi” “Eh? Than does it mean she’s stronger than a guy?”

“Minhyun, what should we do?” Ren asked as he turned to Minhyun who was looking outside the window “Why get ourselves involved? It’s none of our business” he replied “Uh” Ren said, he didn’t know why but he felt a little bit worried.

“Ren, where are you going?” Minhyun said as he noticed that Ren was leaving “I’m sorry Minhyun, but since seatmate Hyunjae might get into trouble, I’ll help her out!” Ren responded then he continued his way “Uh? Heh, that idiot” Minhyun said then he released a sigh and went out of the classroom as well.

Hyunjae arrived at the courtyard and saw Eunmi facing five other guys from the senior’s class “Eunmi!” Hyunjae said then she went near her “What’s happening?” she asked but Eunmi didn’t respond. Hyunjae turned to the five seniors and asked them “What’s your business with Eunmi?” “Hyunjae, stay out of this” said Eunmi “But Eunmi-” “I said stay out of this! I don’t want you to get in trouble for a stupid thing I’ve done” then “That’s right, you should stay out of this princess, this is a fight between guys” one of the seniors said

“Guys?” Hyunjae wondered suddenly “Are you serious? What do you mean fight between guys? Park Eunmi is a girl!” Ren inserted. All of them, especially Eunmi, were shocked of what they heard from Ren “H-Hey you-” said Eunmi
“Are you guys dumb or something? The person right in front of you is a girl, not a guy. She maybe strong but she’s still a girl so don’t call her a guy” Ren added
“Ren…” Hyunjae said then

“What are you? A girl? You’re the transfer student right?” the senior asked as he grabbed Ren’s collar and pulled him up “Yeah, I’m the transfer student and for your information you ugly headed gorilla, I’m a guy” Ren responded. Calling the senior an ugly headed gorilla made him mad that he suddenly punched Ren “Why you brat, how dare you talk back to me like that!?” he proclaimed as he was about to punch Ren again but then Minhyun came and grabbed the senior’s hand

“Uh? Hwang Minhyun?” Hyunjae wondered “Don’t touch him unless you want a broken arm” he said “Heh? You’ve got to be kidding me! Get away from me you eyesore!” the senior proclaimed as he was about to punch Minhyun as well but then Hyunjae blocked Minhyun and she got punched instead

Everyone was shocked and the atmosphere was tense “Hyunjae” Eunmi said “H-Hey you, are you okay?” Minhyun said as he turned to Hyunjae, he was shocked of what she did and didn’t expect that she would do it but then

“Heh, creating a mess like this, punching students, tch. You guys really piss me off! You even try to hurt my body guard. Students like you should be taught a lesson” she said then she smirked and turned to them “I will not use any physical violence for now, I will report this to the chairman right away” she added then she walked away

“Report to the chairman!? Heh, you really are weak, always relying on the chairman’s power. COWARD! Come and punch me!” the senior proclaimed “Shut up already!” Eunmi proclaimed but then Hyunjae went near the senior and punched him “Hey!” Minhyun proclaimed but then

“You said to punch you right? You’re the coward, using violence like this on school grounds… tch” Hyunjae said then she left. “Hyunjae wait!” Eunmi proclaimed as he helped Ren stand up then “I’ll go take care of her, you take Ren to the infirmary” Minhyun said as he passed by her “U-Uh, okay” Eunmi replied.

                In Hyunjae’s case, she went to the bathroom to check on her face. She touched the spot where the senior punched her and it sting “Ooowwww!!! (>…<)” she cried then “Hey Im Hyunjae, are you in there?” she heard Minhyun’s voice from outside “U-Uh, yeah” Hyunjae responded “I’ll be out in a sec” she responded. She looked at the mirror once more and remembered when she took the punch that was meant from Minhyun, she smiled and said “I suddenly feel brave inside” then she left the restroom. When she opened the door, Minhyun was in front of her already

“Uh?” she wondered. He leaned closer and looked at the spot where the senior punched her, “It hurts doesn’t it?” he said “N-Nope” Hyunjae responded “Really?” Minhyun said then he pinched the spot where she got hurt and she suddenly cried “OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCHHHHHH!!!!! (TT__TT)” really loud “Tch, I said to not lie to me you idiot” Minhyun said then he got a hold of her “Let’s go to the infirmary, Ren and Eunmi are there” he added then he dragged her all the way there.

Meanwhile, in the infirmary, while Eunmi was treating Ren’s wound “Ouch! Hey be gentler!” he cried “Hold still, you’re moving!” Eunmi responded “I’m not, you’re the one who’s shaking” said Ren and Eunmi gave him a glare and he kept quiet. There was a silence between them, then

“Hey, thanks” Eunmi said and Ren turned to her “What did you say?” he said “Don’t make me repeat myself, I said thanks” Eunmi responded “Heh, no problem” said Ren “But… why did you suddenly take that punch?” Eunmi asked “Uh? Didn’t I say so before? Eunmi you’re a girl, even though your strength is of a guy, you’re still a girl. People these days, really, just because a girl is strong it makes them a guy already? Hmp” Ren replied then Eunmi hit him on the head “You also treated me as a guy you idiot!” she proclaimed “EH? But it was only to mess with you, Eunmi is a girl” said Ren. Eunmi blushed and looked away then “Eunmi!” Hyunjae proclaimed as she ran towards Eunmi and hugged her

“H-Hyunjae? Are you okay? Does it hurt? I’m really sorry for not protecting you” Eunmi said as she felt guilty but then “It’s okay Eunmi, I’m just glad that you’re not hurt ^^” Hyunjae said “H-Hyunjae…” suddenly

“Uh? I’ve never seen this side of Hyunjae-ssi before” Ren inserted both Eunmi and Hyunjae went (O___O) “Tch, idiot” Minhyun mumbled. Moments later… “EH!? SERIOUSLY!?” Ren proclaimed and Hyunjae shyly nodded her head, suddenly Ren hugged Hyunjae and she went (O///O)

“Wow! So cute! Another side of Hyunjae that only a few people know! Now I feel like we’re really friends, don’t worry Hyunjae, Ren will keep your secret so let’s be great friends! Okay?” he said “U-Uh, y-yeah!” Hyunjae responded and Ren smiled at her

“But then you could’ve just thought about a lie you know, I would’ve believed it” said Ren “But since Ren was able to take the punch for Eunmi a while ago, I think telling the truth would be better since I trust you ^^” Hyunjae replied “Uh, Hyunjae-ssi” Ren said then he hugged her once more “Thank you!” he beamed suddenly, Minhyun hit both of them on the head and grabbed Hyunjae and placed her on a chair “We still have to treat your wound you reckless slave” he said

“Hey Minhyun, don’t be mean to Hyunjae-ssi, she even took the punch for you as well!” said Ren but Minhyun just gave him a glare “I’ll shut up” he said then he kept quiet “Uh, Ren is really cute isn’t he?” Hyunjae said “Yup, you said it” Minhyun responded. There was a silence between them, then

“Sorry” Minhyun apologized, “Eh? For what?” Hyunjae responded then he smacked her on the head “Are you seriously an idiot?” he said and Hyunjae made an (TT ^ TT) face “I’m apologizing because you got hit instead of me” he added “Uh? What are you talking about? In the first place, I should be the one protecting my master” said Hyunjae “Uh” Ren said then he hit her again

“You really are an idiot (-_-) even if your master gets hurt your master will never allow a girl to get punched by that!” Minhyun proclaimed and Hyunjae kept quiet “What? Are you going to cry?” he said but Hyunjae shook her head and said “A while ago, after receiving that punch… I really felt great. I felt brave and it was the first time I’ve felt like I didn’t want to cry inside so… I guess getting punched was a good thing for me!” Minhyun noticed how happy she was, he released a sigh and continued treating her wound.

After that, “Hyunjae, airhead, let’s go to the guidance counselor’s office” Eunmi said “Eh? Why!?” both Ren and Hyunjae proclaimed “We were called to go to the guidance counselor’s office, let’s go” Eunmi responded then she went ahead and the other two followed.

When they arrived at the guidance counselor’s office, “So… it was you guys who caused a ruckus at the courtyard this morning” the guidance counselor, Siwan, said as he looked at them, Hyunjae looked at him and noticed that he was pretty upset then she looked away

“Hyunjae, even you… you got involved, tsk” he said then “Excuse me sir but it wasn’t Hyunjae’s nor it was airhea- I mean Ren’s fault. It was mine, they were just trying to help” said Eunmi “Still, they got injured and looks like Hyunjae over here punched her senior” said Siwan “But he asked for it” Hyunjae mumbled and Siwan gave her a glare then she kept quiet. Siwan released a sigh then he turned to the five seniors who were with them

“You guys are also at fault, what were you thinking? Picking a fight in the school grounds and what’s worse that it was between a girl. You even punched a girl” he said “B-But sir, it was an accident, it was supposed to be a guy but then princess over here blocked his way” the leader, said “Uh? *turns to Hyunjae* you took a punch that was meant for someone else?” he asked and Hyunjae nervously nodded her head then

“Hyunjae! I am so proud of you! And you weren’t crying at all? Wow! Oppa is very happy (TT v TT)” he said then “Oppa, not now. We’re in a serious mood” Hyunjae whispered. Siwan looked at the faces of the others and they went (.___.?)

“A-Ah, I forgot (-.-)” Siwan mumbled the he stood straight and put a strict face on “I will not play any favoritism so today, after your classes, go to the track field and you guys will have to run around for 10 rounds!” he proclaimed

“WHAT!? 10 ROUNDS!?” the students cried “If you don’t want it then 15 rounds!” Siwan proclaimed and the students went (=[]=) “That’ll teach you not to fight in the courtyard *evil laugh*” he said. After the session, when the door opened, Minhyun saw the other three exit the room and Siwan followed

“Minhyun! Hyunjae’s brother is really scary! He wants us to run around the field 15 times (TT___TT)” Ren cried “Brother?” Minhyun wondered, when he turned to the guidance counselor, he was surprised “Uh” he said. Siwan turned to him and he was surprised as well “Hwang Minhyun?” he said “Eh? You know each other?” Hyunjae asked and Siwan just smiled.

After class, as punishment, the students who were involved in the courtyard incident started to run while Siwan and Minhyun stayed on the benches and watched them “Here you go” Siwan said as he offered Minhyun a drink “Thanks” Minhyun responded

“Who knew that we would see each other again huh” Siwan said “Yeah. I didn’t know that you were a guidance counselor here and her brother” said Minhyun “Well who would’ve thought that you actually became a singer and classmates with my sister” said Siwan and Minhyun kept quiet. “So… you were the guy whom Hyunjae protected huh?” he added and Minhyun turned to him “The guy who punched Hyunjae earlier said that it was meant for you but Hyunjae blocked it. You know all about Hyunjae’s real side, right?” he added “U-Uh, y-yeah” Minhyun responded as he felt a little bit guilty “Don’t feel guilty; it wasn’t your fault at all. That Hyunjae, she may be a real coward but whenever someone’s in trouble, she ignores that coward side of her and does something reckless to protect that someone though she isn’t aware of it and continues to worry about her real side” said Siwan “Yeah, I guess she really is an idiot huh” said Minhyun “Hey, don’t talk about my sister like that” said Siwan “Well, what can I say. Like brother like sister, even you haven’t changed” said Minhyun “Heh, I hope I can say the same thing for you Minhyun but looks like you’ve changed a lot after your gang broke up” said Siwan “Uh, please don’t mention that again” Minhyun said then he kept quiet

“Sorry” Siwan apologized and he looked at the students who were still running “I wonder how many rounds they’ve ran already” he said “Four” Minhyun replied “Eh? You’ve been counting?” Siwan asked “Yeah” Minhyun replied “I see, hey, you’re not interested in my sister, are you?” Siwan asked and Minhyun suddenly spit out what he was drinking and turned to him with a puzzled and shocked face “M-Mwo?” he said. Siwan laughed and said “You didn’t have to show such a reaction, I was only asking” Minhyun felt embarrassed and kept quiet suddenly

“Ah! Hyunjae, let’s play a game!” Ren beamed “Okay, what kind of game?” Hyunjae replied “The last one to finish the 15 rounds will have to treat us out to dinner!” Ren proclaimed “Eh? So food’s involved huh, good luck to the loser!” Eunmi proclaimed then she ran ahead “Hey Eunmi! That’s not fair!” Hyunjae and Ren proclaimed then they ran faster as well.

“Looks like they’re having fun ^^” Siwan said as he looked at the three running and smiling “Uh” Minhyun said and when he turned to them, he saw Hyunjae smiling “Yeah” he said.

After running around 15 times “You lose airhead, it’s your treat!” Eunmi proclaimed “Eh? It’s not fair! The two of you are practically the fastest runners around!” Ren responded “So what? We won and it’s your treat” said Eunmi “EH!?” Ren cried then “Don’t worry, I’ll be the one to treat you guys instead ^^” Siwan inserted “Eh? Really!?” the three proclaimed and Siwan nodded his head.

                Moments later, when they arrived at Im Residence “Woah, so this is your house” Ren said as he looked at the house with awe

“But I was expecting something kind of big” he added “Like what?” Hyunjae asked “Well, you know a really big mansion just like Gu Jun Pyo’s house in Boys Over Flowers. That kind of house” Ren replied “T-That’s a little bit exaggerated already ^^” said Hyunjae “Besides, Hyunjae and Siwan oppa are the only ones who live in this house” Eunmi said as she sat down “Really? Such a large house yet the two of you only live here, cool” Ren said as he continued to look around. Minhyun looked around as well then he turned to Hyunjae

“How about your father?” he asked “He seldom comes home” Hyunjae replied “And your mom?” he asked but Hyunjae didn’t respond then “Their mom left them when Hyunjae was still in middle school” Eunmi replied “O-Oh, I’m sorry” said Minhyun. Hyunjae gave him a weak smile and said “It’s okay” then

“Yosh, I’ll go prepare dinner” Siwan said as he went to the kitchen “Ah, I’ll go help” Hyunjae volunteered but then “NO YOU DON’T!” both Eunmi and Siwan proclaimed “E-Eh?” Hyunjae cried “What’s wrong?” Ren asked “Hyunjae isn’t really good in the kitchen” Eunmi replied “T-That’s right, don’t worry Hyunjae, I’ll be fine. Why don’t you give them a tour around the house instead?” Siwan suggested, Hyunjae released a sigh and said “Okay” then she gave them a tour around the house.

“Your place is really cool! Can I sleep here?” Ren said then Minhyun hit him on the head and glared at him “I was only kidding (>3<)” he pouted and the two girls giggled. While they were walking around the house, Minhyun saw a picture of a very beautiful woman; he kept staring at it then

“That’s my mother” Hyunjae inserted “Uh” Minhyun said as he turned to her “They say that I look just like her and that we’re very much in common but the truth is, we’re nothing alike. Unlike me, mother was the perfect daughter and she was the perfect role model to everyone that’s why I’m sometimes hurt whenever they say that they remind me of her” she added and Minhyun kept quiet then “Woah, a yearbook!” Ren proclaimed as he found it under the coffee table “Hey don’t touch that!” Eunmi proclaimed “Wae? This isn’t even yours, it’s Hyunjae’s!” Ren responded then he opened the yearbook, Minhyun sat next to him and looked at it as well.

“Hyunjae-ssi, were you also the class rep in your previous classes before?” Ren asked and Hyunjae shyly nodded her head “AHA! Look at Eunmi, she really is a guy!” Ren proclaimed as he showed a picture of Eunmi dressed as a guy during the school festival, Eunmi gave him a death glare and said “I had no other choice, our class decided to hold a host club and I had to dress as a guy” “Eunmi was really handsome that time that’s why sometimes she gets confessed to by girls” said Hyunjae “Don’t tell them that (=_=)” said Eunmi “Right, sorry ^^” Hyunjae responded then

“Uh? Hyunjae-ssi, were you really happy during your junior high years?” Ren asked “Uh, why is that?” Hyunjae responded. Minhyun looked at the other pictures and noticed that Hyunjae wasn’t smiling happily, it was one of those half-hearted smiles then

“Dinner’s ready!” Siwan proclaimed “Uh, ne~” the four responded and they went downstairs. While eating, “OH MY ASDFGHJKL! This is really delicious!” Ren beamed “Thank you” Siwan responded, Siwan turned to Minhyun and noticed that he was really quiet “Minhyun, are you okay? Do you not like my cooking?” he asked, Minhyun shook his head and said “It’s still delicious… like before” and it made Siwan smile, then

“By the way oppa, you never told us how you and Minhyun know each other so well” Hyunjae said “Oh, so you guys want to know the story why Hwang Minhyun and I know each other?” Siwan said and the three nodded their heads “W-Wait, hold up I-” “Too late Minhyun, I’m telling them already” said Siwan and Minhyun made an (=__=) face

“Ren, before Minhyun debuted, did he mention that he was part of a gang?” Siwan asked and Ren went (O__O) “NO WAY!” he proclaimed then he turned to Minhyun “You were part of a gang!?” he added and Minhyun face-palmed himself “He was, but he wasn’t the kind of gang member that would recklessly get into fights” said Siwan “I only joined that group to kill time” Minhyun added “Uh” the three said “It was during my training days as a guidance counselor that I met him, it was raining and I saw him getting himself wet in the rain. He was at the playground at that time, he seemed like a pretty lonely kid” said Siwan

Flashback:

“Hey, kid over there!” Siwan proclaimed as he entered the playground and Minhyun turned to him “You’re getting wet, come over here” he added but Minhyun ignored him “Uh” Siwan said. He released a sigh and went near him and let him shelter under his umbrella

“What are you doing?” Minhyun said “Idiot, you’ll get sick if you continue to stay in this rain, your parents will get worried you know: said Siwan “Heh, they won’t mind” said Minhyun “EH?” Siwan said and he started to feel a bit irritated, “That’s it, you’re coming with me” he added then he grabbed Minhyun and dragged him inside his car. He took Minhyun to his apartment and let him stay there

After letting him use the bathroom and changed his clothes, he let him stay over for dinner “Here you go” Siwan said as he placed a plate filled with food in front of Minhyun “Uh” Minhyun said then he looked up to him “Don’t be shy, eat” Siwan said then he sat in front of Minhyun and started to eat as well. Minhyun stared at the food for a while then he started eating as well, when he tasted Siwan’s cooking, he was surprised “Is it delicious?” Siwan asked and Minhyun nodded his head and continued to eat

“You look scary but you have a soft spot huh” Siwan mumbled to himself and continued eating. After dinner, “You should stay over for the night, it’s still raining and it’s already late. I’ll just contact your parents and inform them that you’re staying over” Siwan said but then “There’s no need to, they’re not home anyway” said Minhyun “Uh, then you live by yourself?” Siwan asked but Minhyun just kept quiet “Hmm, ah, by the way what’s your name? I’m Im Siwan” Siwan said as he introduced himself “Hwang Minhyun” Minhyun replied “Well then, nice to meet you Minhyun ^^” said Siwan then

RING RING RING~ the phone rang “Excuse me while I answer it” Siwan said as he stood up and answered the phone. Minhyun looked around and saw a picture of a girl in a middle school uniform, she was really happy in that picture and it seemed like she wore a really big smile then

“Sorry about that, my sister called me to check on me, ehehe” Siwan said as he came back then he noticed Minhyun looking at the picture “Is this her?” Minhyun asked “Uh, yeah” Siwan replied “She’s still in middle school huh” said Minhyun “Nope, that was taken during her middle school, right now, she’s about the same age as you” said Siwan “Oh” Minhyun said then he turned to him “Her smile back then is very different from her smile right now… I hate… her smile right now” said Siwan “Uh” said Minhyun “Well let’s get some rest, I’ll take you home tomorrow” Siwan said as he stood up “Good Night” he added and went to his room

Siwan’s Narration:

After that meeting, I felt like I have become close with Hwang Minhyun. After seeing him get wounded, it was then that I found out that he was actually part of a gang…

“But the gang that I joined broke up and I started a new life so it’s all in the past, there’s no need to discuss about it anymore” said Minhyun “Oh? Look who’s sharing now (¬‿¬)” said Eunmi
“S-Shut up (-’_‘-)” said Minhyun

“But I have to admit, when we filmed ‘Face’ and we had this somewhat, gang thing concept, I actually thought that Minhyun was a real gang member” said Ren “Yeah and when I first saw Hwang Minhyun. I thought he was a delinquent” said Eunmi “He does have a scary face” said Hyunjae and Minhyun was starting to get irritated “(=’_‘=) S-Shut up already” he mumbled then “Ahaha, cheer up Minhyun, that’s part of friendship” Siwan said as he patted Minhyun on the back and Minhyun released a sigh.

After eating dinner, “Hyunjae, I’ll stay here and wait for my driver to come pick me up” said Eunmi “Okay” Hyunjae said then she and the two guys went out

“Thanks for sending us off Hyunjae!” Ren beamed “No problem ^^” Hyunjae responded “But don’t you have any driver like that she-man Eunmi?” he asked “Well, oppa usually drives me on the way to school and on my way back home, I take the subway” Hyunjae replied “Oh? Really, so even though you’re a rich kid, you still live the simple life huh” said Ren and Hyunjae nodded her head “How about you two, you guys are famous right? So how come I’ve never heard of the two of you attending practices and stuff” Hyunjae questioned “Oh that’s because we’re on a one month break. Our manager told us to focus on our studies and stuff but after the break, we’re back to being busy” Ren answered “I see… but how about your fans? Do they stalk you and stuff?” Hyunjae asked “Ah yeah, we get stalked most of the time but right now, there aren’t much” Ren replied

“Oh, it must be difficult living a normal life huh” said Hyunjae “Yeah, but we got used to it anyway. What’s more difficult is hiding your real self from others” said Ren and Hyunjae turned to him “But don’t worry Hyunjae, I’m sure someday, you’ll be able to show the real you… right Minhyun?” Ren added. Hyunjae turned to Minhyun and he nodded his head, she smiled and said “Thanks”

After that, Hyunjae went back to her house while Ren and Minhyun continued their way. When they arrived at their dorm, “Where have you been?” Baekho asked “We stayed over a classmate’s house to have dinner” Ren replied “Uh? Really? You two were able to make friends?” JR asked and Ren nodded his head “Well that’s nice” said JR “Is she pretty?” Aaron asked and Ren nodded his head once more “But too bad, she’s already Minhyun’s” he added and Minhyun smacked him on the head “Don’t say useless things” he said then he went to his room

“What’s with that guy?” Baekho asked “He’s just happy but he shows it in a grumpy way, anyway~ let’s watch TV!” Ren beamed then he sat on the couch and watched TV

                In Minhyun's case, when he got in his room he felt something heavy in his bag. He opened his bg to check it out and was surprised to see Hyunjae’s diary inside “Uh?” he wondered. He opened the diary and Hyunjae wrote something new there

Dear Diary,

                Guess what happened to me this day… a while ago, a guy entered our room and said that Eunmi got into a fight with some seniors in the courtyard. I immediately rushed to the courtyard because Eunmi was in trouble. She was also about to get punched but luckily, our classmate Ren was able to take the punch for her. Hwang Minhyun was also about to get punched but somehow, I was the one who got punched.

Honestly, it really hurt and I regret doing it but… I feel happier inside than feeling regretful. I was able to protect someone without even minding how scared I was. It was the first time I didn’t cry and the first time I felt happy. I’m weird right? Getting happy because I got punched but… it was really something to be happy about for my part and besides, that senior was also going to hurt my master. Yes, I am now admitting that Hwang Minhyun is my master. Well, he did keep my secret and it’s the least I could do to return the favor. Ren also found out about my secret but it was due to my carelessness. He also said that he won’t tell anyone about my real side and he wants to be friends with Eunmi and me.

I’m really happy, even after class the four of us went to our house to have dinner and oppa cooked for us. I guess this is what it feels like to have friends huh? Well, I do admit that I know a lot of people but they only see me as someone ‘admirable’ or something and although Eunmi is my best friend, sometimes I feel like it’s lonely because there’s just the two of us but now, even though I think that Hwang Minhyun isn’t interested with being friends with us, I’m glad that we were able to hang out like that. ^^

I think I’ve said a lot today? Well, I guess I was really really happy. I’ve never felt this happy for a long time already. Teeheeheehee ^^v

“Tch, idiot” Minhyun said as he smiled, he closed the diary, placed it inside his bag and lied down. He recalled how Hyunjae took the punch for him and what Siwan said before…
