D: What?! No! Is it because of that night? I’ll explain! I’ll explain everything to them!

Hyoyeonie

I already tried explaining. They object no matter what. Hyunnie, I’m sorry.

Hyunnie

No!!! This can’t be happening to us! Things like that only happen in Korean dramas!

Hyoyeonie

I’m afraid that it’s true. T_T We have to break up. I’m sorry. Please find a better woman to steam gogumas for you.

Hyunnie

NOOO!!! You’re not breaking up with me over Skype. I won’t agree to it!

Hyun leapt off his leather chair and dashed out of his office like a madman, ignoring the dull ache in his back, as well as the surprised call of his secretary who was probably wondering if he’d finally lost his marbles.

“Hyoyeonie! Hyoyeonie! Open the door!”

Hyun banged on the door like a madman, not caring if his knuckles got bruised. The door opened and Hyun found himself staring at Hyoyeon’s brother, Mingu.

“Mingu, I have to see Hyoyeon. Please let me see her,” begged Hyun desperately.

To his utter despair, Mingu shook his head solemnly and said, “You can’t see her.”

Hyun howled in angst. “HYO…YEO…NIEEE…”

Mingu scrunched up his face and looked at Hyun as though he had gone mad.

“What’s wrong with you. She’s not home. You can’t see her if she’s not home. She’s gone to work. Go to her dance academy if you want to see her so badly.”

Hyun stopped howling at once. He blinked once. Twice. Thrice.

“Mingu, isn’t Hyoyeon grounded?”

“Grounded?!” Mingu’s eyes were wide in surprise. “Why would she be grounded? She hasn’t been grounded since…since middle school.”

Hyun’s jaw dropped and he was about to show Mingu the message he had received from Hyoyeon when it dawned on him.

April Fools’. Today is April Fools’!

Mingu snorted with laughter.

“My sis played a prank on you didn’t she? To be expected, especially on April Fools’ Day.”

Hyun palmed his face. Yes. He’d been pranked. But an idea popped into his head and he smiled slyly. No, the prank was done over. It was time to turn the tables on the devilish prankster herself.

I guess, this is the end for us. It is very hard for me to say this but I will accept the break up. From now on, we will just be friends. But if your family doesn’t want us to remain as friends, I will respect their wishes and never see you again. I love you. Goodbye.

Hyoyeon stared at her phone. Did he just…did he just break up with me for real?

Are you serious?

Hyunnie

I don’t want to make things difficult for you. I love you and I want you to have a good relationship with your family. I won’t elope with you like how they do in the Korean dramas. I’ll take up goguma cooking classes and learn how to steam my own gogumas. Take care, Hyoyeonie. And don’t worry about me.

Hyoyeon stared at her phone agape. Oh my gawd. Hyun is serious about this! Desperate time called for desperate measures. She had to call him to explain that this was all a joke.

“Pick up the call Hyunnie,” Hyoyeon muttered to herself as she listened to the dial tone.

“Hyoyeonie? Why are you calling?”

“Hyunnie…I…”

“What is it Hyoyeonie?”

“I have something to confess.”

“Before you confess your everlasting love for me, open the door of your studio.”

Hyoyeon was thrown. What was going on? Was Hyun here? She got off the floor where she’d been stretching and headed to the door of her studio.

“HAPPY APRIL FOOLS’ DAY!” Hyun yelled as soon as she opened the door.

The grin on his face made it clear that he was in no anguish whatsoever. He had played a prank on her. And succeeded!

Hyoyeon was too stunned to react. She could only mumble incoherently, “You…you…pranked…oh my gawd…you…me…I…believed you…”

Hyun raised both of his arms jubilantly and cheered,” Hurray! I finally pulled a fast one on you! I did it! I did it! Hyoyeon the prankster has been pranked by me!” then he groaned and lowered his arms. “My back.”

Hyoyeon was concerned at once. “Is your back hurting again?”

Hyun winced. “I must have strained it while running to my car.”

Hyoyeon shot him a pointed look. “Serves you right for trying to play a prank on me.”

Hyun was indignant. “I ran to my car so that I could go to your house to see you as soon as possible!”

“You…you went to my house?” Hyoyeon was surprised again.

“Yes, it was only after your brother told me that you were at work that I realized that I’ve been had.”

Hyoyeon giggled. “I couldn’t resist.”

“You scared me.”

“It’s so easy to play tricks on you.”

“You’re Hyoyeonie the meanie.”

Hyoyeon laughed. “Yes I am.”

“Fany, have you seen my pea?”

Taeng came out of his bedroom looking anxious.

“Your pea? No I haven’t”

“Oh no…”

“What’s wrong, Taetae?”

“I can’t find my pea.”

“Your pea?”

Taeng nodded numbly. “It’s gone missing. Happiest has gone missing.”

“It has to be around here somewhere.”

“But I’ve searched everywhere for it and it’s nowhere to be found.”

“Have you looked under the bed? It might have dropped off and rolled under.”

“I looked, but it’s not there.”

“Don’t worry Taetae, it’ll turn up somewhere.”

“I’m worried, Fany ah. Happiest must be so unhappy right now. Where could it be?”

Taeng pouted sadly and plopped down on couch. He tried looking under the couch. There was nothing there either. Tiffany didn’t want Taeng to look so sad so she began to hunt for his pea. She searched high and low, sifting through the closets, drawers and under all the furniture in his bedroom. Unfortunately, Happiest was nowhere to be found.

Just then, Tiffany heard a snort of laughter and looked at Taeng strangely. He was turning bright pink and looked as though he was going to burst out in rabid laughter any time…now.

“HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!” Taeng laughed and laughed and laughed. He laughed so hard that he was bent over, arms clutching his stomach.

“Taetae…?” Tiffany was confused. Why was Taeng laughing like that?

Then it dawned on her. Why of course, it was April Fools’.

“APRIL FOOLS’! The joke’s on you!” Taeng laughed.

Tiffany could only smile and roll her eyes at him as he rolled on the bed in laughter.

“You’re such a kid, Taetae.”

Yoong marched into the office with the solemnest expression and stood still, sweeping his eyes across the office. He had just received the worst news from his grandfather and he could barely believe it. But he’d seen the email and the official document. The news was true. And he had to announce it.

“Ladies and gentlemen.”

Everybody in the office looked up from their computers and files. He couldn’t help but rest his eyes on Sunny a little longer than the rest. He didn’t want to think about her reaction to the news. He was sure that they’d all be saddened by it.

“It breaks my heart tell you this but I have to.”

“What is it Yoong?” asked Sungmin.

Yoong heaved a huge sigh. “Our office has to close down.”

“WHAT?!” everyone burst out in shock. Sungmin and several others stood up from their seat and gaped.

“Is this an April Fools’ joke?” Sungmin narrowed his eyes and asked.

“Yeah, it’s a joke right? Trust Yoong to try something funny like that today,” said Heechul.

“Guy, I’m afraid, it’s no joke.” Yoong hung his head low. He couldn’t bear to look at the eyes of his co-workers. “They’ve sold the resort branch of the main company and split us up to join the other departments.”

His lips trembled as he tried to hold back his own emotions. He had to be strong for them. He had to be.

“It’s too sudden. I can’t believe they managed to keep it a secret till today. Why was there no news or even gossips about this happening?”

“Because the joke’s on Yoong that’s why,” a booming voice reverberated from behind him.

And with that, the entire office exploded into hysterical laughter. Yoong was left gaping at the dignified elderly man who stood behind him. Grandpa Im. No way. He wouldn’t…would he…?

His grandfather flashed a wicked grin and put an arm around his shoulders.

“Happy April Fools’ Yoong.”

Yoong’s mouth opened and closed like a goldfish. This was so surreal. That email! That document! They looked so real! How? What!

“GRANDPA!” Yoong exploded in embarrassment.

Everyone in the office laughed even harder at his reaction. His eyes locked on Sunny who looked like she was on the verge of dying of laughter and narrowed. Why, that sneaky girlfriend of his. She knew. And she didn’t tell him. She actually ganged up with everybody else to pull this prank on him!

Her eyes met his and she seemed to have read his thoughts for she grinned widely and said, “Happy April Fools’ Yoongie.”

He couldn’t help but smile foolishly at that.

Krystal’s eyes flashed with anger as she slammed her phone on the table in front of Young.

“Explain this.”

He looked. It said:

Young is mine . Stop hanging around him if you know what’s good for you.

His eyes bulged and his heart rate quickened in quantum leaps.

“How many other girls do you have on the side?” she demanded to know.

“Just you! I only have you!”

“Is it Jade?”

“No!”

“Christine?”

“No!”

“Malina?”

“Of course not! I’m not crazy!”

“Then who is it?”

“I don’t know…” Young mumbled miserably. He had been avoiding the girls he used to hang out with and he hadn’t been in contact with those girls for some time now. He had no idea which girl was responsible for that message.

“You…don’t…know?” she minced each word that she spoke and he began to feel intimidated. Krystal sure could pack a punch if she wanted to. “Then would you happen to know what day it is today?” she continued.

“Er…Monday?”

“And the date?”

“F-First April…?”

April. First of April. April Foo—oh darn. He was such a fool.

She was grinning at him, no doubt enjoying the myriad of expressions that flashed across his face as he figured things out. He couldn’t help but feel a great sense of relief as he pinched her nose jovially.

“I can’t believe you would freak me out like that.”

Her grin grew wider as she said, “You’re so cute when you’re all freaked out.”

“Am I?”

“Uh huh. You’re so cute that I have to kiss you now.”

She leaned in and kissed him chastely on his lips as soon as she spoke and he closed his eyes to enjoy the feel of her soft lips nuzzling his.

“Yul…I need to eat cucumbers.”

Yul stared at Jessica, agape. “What did you say?”

“I said…I need to eat cucumbers.”

Yul was rendered speechless. He’d heard about crazy, over-the-top cravings that pregnant women had but for Jessica to crave forcucumbers?

“Are…are you sure?”

“I’m sure.”

“Reeeally?”

“Nah, I’m just kidding.”

“What?”

“April Fools’ Kwon seobang.”
