“Oh come on, Yonggie.” Min Li grabbed Ji Yong's hand and pulled him along. “We're going to be late for the grand opening!” She crossed even though there was a red light. “We're almost there!” Min Li pointed at the bright lights of the carnival. Ji Yong stopped in his tracks. She continued pulling him.

“Yah! You could have gotten injured back there!” Ji Yong shouted at her. She paid no attention. It was always like this. Min Li does something that could get herself hurt. Ji Yong yells at her. She pays no attention. In fact, she pays no attention to anyone.... When she has something she really wants to do, that is.

“Look!” She pointed at the snowflakes. “Isn't it beautiful?” She twirled around and laughed. “It's my birthday too!”

Ji Yong couldn't help but smile at his hyper-active best friend. He pinched her nose. “I thought you wanted to ride the merry-go-round.”

She looked at him and then at the merry-go-round. “Come on! What are we waiting for!” She zigzagged through the line, leaving tracks with her Nikes, and hopped on a white horse with a rainbow mane. She waved at him from afar. “Come on!” He shook his head and climbed onto the one next to her. His legs were to long so it dangled on the sides.

“Neh, ajumma. Those pink carnations, please.” Ji Yong rubbed his cold hands together. The ajumma wrapped the carnations in clear plastic with a white embroider.

“It's hard finding carnations at this time of year.” The ajumma handed him the flowers. “Must be for your umma.” She smiled.

Ji Yong smiled and shook his head. “No, they are for my lover.” He gave the ajumma the money and left the warm flower shop.

“Go Ji Yong!” Min Li waved her hands in the air.

Ji Yong threw his last dart. Bull's eye. He pumped his fist in victory. “So, which prize do you want?”

Min Li pointed at the panda. “I shall remind me of Seungri.. forever.”

Ji Yong tried pouting. “What about me?”

She poked his cheek. “I was joking. Aish.”

They owner stared at the couple with admiration. She grabbed the biggest bear from the top. “Why don't you guys take this one?” She handed it to Min Li.

Min Li's eyes were glittering with joy. “THANK YOU!” She grinned from ear to ear. They both waved bye as they retrieved the prize.

Ji Yong puffed out a small white cloud of air. It brought back memories of how Min Li and him would blow air into each others' face. He smiled and placed the carnations on the passenger seat and headed to somewhere warm to eat. Everyone reminded him of Min Li. That was how important she was to him.

Ji Yong sighed. 'I wonder how she will react when she sees the carnations.'

Min Li caught a snowflake with the tip of her tongue. One hand was holding the bear and the other was holding Ji Yong's hand. “Mmm.. where do we go now?” She turned to face him, still sticking her tongue out. Flake after flake, her tongue immediately became cold. They walked past clowns and kids in puffy jackets.

Something caught Ji Yong's eyes. “Let's go inside that haunted house!” Before she could answer, Ji Yong handed the bear to the ticket person and pulled Min Li in. As soon as they entered, evil laughter boomed and multi-colored lights flashed everywhere. Something was missing.. and that was the ghouls and ghosts.

“BOO.”

Min Li blinked at the man in the costume while Ji Yong screamed like a girl. The ghoul and Min Li snickered.

“Come on.” Min Li giggled some more. “Let's walk deeper.” She pulled Ji Yong's arm but he stood in place, like a statue.

“Y-y-you go.” Ji Yong hid behind her.

“Yah! Big chicken! You're the one that wanted to come here in the first place.”

“Fine...”

There were more 'Muahahahahas' and creepy giggles. Ji Yong squeezed his eyes shut and followed her footsteps. He bumped into someone. He opened one eye to see Taemin.

“Hyung!” Taemin smiled and hugged Jaemin, who clutched the sleeve of his sweatshirt. There were more cackles. Jaemin hugged Taemin tighter. “Umm.. let's talk.. outside.” He smiled.

'Yes!' Ji Yong did a little victory dance inside his head.

Min Li knocked his head with her knuckle. “We all know you're happy to get out but.. the exit is at the end of the haunted maze.” She pointed to a sign that was taped on the wall. Jaemin and Ji Yong sighed. Once again, Ji Yong squeezed his eyes shut.

He waited impatiently as he waited for the lady to walk across the street. He looked at the clock. The bakery and cafe was going to close soon due to tomorrow, being a holiday and all. Most importantly of all, it was her birthday.

Cars started moving as the grandma finally crossed the street. Ji Yong drove as fast as he could, but not that fast. He didn't want to end up in the hospital just minutes before he visits her.

They finally exited the haunted house-slash-maze and Min Li got back her teddy bear while Jaemin hugged a stuffed turtle.

“What do you want to eat?” Taemin nudged Jaemin while sipping his drink.

“Hmmm....” She put on the most adorable thinking face ever and scanned the counter. Scents of pizza, hotdogs, cake, and fresh cotton candy drifted in the cold winter air. She took three lollipops out of the plastic container. “I want three lollipops.” She smiled as Taemin paid for them. Min Li stared at her dongsaengs and smiled.

“Do you want anything?” Ji Yong asked when he came back with a cup of hot chocolate. Min Li took the cup out of his hands and took a sip. “Hey! I drank it already..”

She shrugged and handed him the cup. “I drank out of your cup a lot of times. I don't see you complaining back then.” She pouted and got off of the bench. Ji Yong's face was now flushed with a mixture of pink and red.

“Unnie, wanna go on the Ferris Wheel?” Jaemin asked as she pointed to the big lighted wheel.

“Let's go!” Min Li grabbed Ji Yong's hand as he threw the Styrofoam cup away. Somehow, when she grabbed his hand there was a wave of electricity running though his arm.

Ji Yong parked in front of the bakery/cafe and opened the door. A wave of warm air embraced him as he entered. He walked up to the counter. The owner smiled at him and knew what he was going to order before he could tell her. For, he was a regular.

“One vanilla frosted chocolate cake and a latte?” She scribbled everything down, with or without Ji Yong telling her. Ji Yong just nodded and waited for the cake and sipped his latte from time to time.

They lined up behind an old couple. Min Li covered with her rainbow scarf and sighed. If only the love between her parents could have lasted as long as this couple's. Her left hand was buried in Ji Yong's pocket with his right for warmth.

“Oh look. It says fifty percent discount for couples!” Jaemin pointed at the neon green sign. “Unnie and Oppa will have to act as a couple.” She whispered and winked at the two as she hopped into a carriage with Taemin and the green turtle.

The operator must have thought Ji Yong and her was a couple because they only had to pay for one ticket. “Enjoy the ride.” He smiled, showing the gap between his two front teeth. He opened the carriage's gate and helped Min Li up. She smiled and thanked him.

The owner handed him the brightly wrapped box. He paid her and added a generous tip in the tip jar. She smiled and waved. When he left she sighed as she wrote down the next customer's order. “Young people in love these days. If only everyone was like him.” She smiled at the ajumma.

“The girlfriend of his must be very lucky.”

The ride was silent. Very silent, except for the 'Wows' and comments from Min Li. He didn't pay much attention to the landscape and such. He just looked at her from time to time.

“This is so fun!” She shouted out to the world. No couple turned around to look at her. If they did, she wouldn't care. This was her special day and she was going to spend it her way. Ji Yong looked at her snowflake covered hair and smirked.

The ride suddenly came to a stop, they were at the tippy top. They both stuck their hand out and tried catching snowflakes. They knew it was going to melt, but it was fun. There were the 'Pows' of the fireworks. Ji Yong took a picture of her in it.

“Gimme gimme gimme~” She reached out for the phone.

“No.” He grinned and placed the phone back in his pocket.

“Meanie.” She narrowed her eyes at him and continued staring at the fireworks.

The operator opened their gate. They both thanked him again and then they met up with the TaeJaemin couple at the basketball game. You know, the one with the smaller hoop that was oval shaped? Taemin had one ball left. He bounced it up and down and jumped as he shot it in.

“Go turtle go!” Jaemin waved the stuffed turtle's right paw up and down. She was all smiles and hugs when Taemin got the basket and won her a stuffed turtle holding a stuffed lollipop. “Now, I'm going to have one big, humungous collection!”

While the TaeJaemin couple was having fun, Min Li gawked at the Hello Kitties. There was one that had Hello Kitty and a boy Hello Kitty holding a heart. Ji Yong saw what she was looking at and paid to get the basketballs. He took one shot and missed.

Jaemin and her chanted, “Go GD go!” They did a mini version of the victory dance as he won the Hello Kitty.

“Yay!” Min Li handed him the oversized bear and hugged the two Hello Kitties. “Thank you~” She gave him a peck on the cheek. He flushed pink and red again.

He then went back home to retrieve his neatly wrapped present. Even though it was small, it meant a lot. He kissed the bow and placed it on the passenger seat, next to the cake and flowers. He drove towards the hospital.

“Bye oppa!” Min Li waved from outside.

“Are you sure you don't want me to walk you home?” Ji Yong's key was already in the keyhole, but her safety was more important.

Min Li shook her head. “I'll be fine.” She gave him a reassuring smile. “It's only two blocks away.”

He thought it over for a moment. “Okay, but call me as soon as you get home.” He commanded her. She nodded and then before he could say goodbye, she was out of sight.

He entered the doors and there was a strong scent of alcohol. The nurse smiled at him and went back to her work. He pressed the 'up' button on the elevator and waited for the doors to open. There was the 'ding' and he stepped inside. He couldn't wait to wish her a happy 21st birthday.

Ji Yong's phone vibrated. He answered. “Hello?”

There was a panicked voice on the other side. “J-J-Ji Yong. Is Min Li with you?” It was Min Li's mom.

“No, but I told her to call me. She just left a few minutes ago.”

Mrs. Kwon sniffled. “That was more than an hour ago. She still isn't home.” From the sound of her voice, he could tell she was trying not to cry. He looked at the clock. He had took a longer shower than he thought.

“Don't worry, Mrs. Kwon. I'll go look for her.” Her mom muttered a 'Okay.' and hung up. “Where could she be?”

He grabbed his jacket and put on his shoes and headed out the door. He walked the route Min Li always walked. He stared at the crowd. He tapped a girl on the shoulder and asked, “What happened?”

“There was a hit and run accident. A car crashed into a girl and she's taken to the hospital.” The girl said everything very fast.

Ji Yong started panicking, just like Mrs. Kwon had. “This can't be.” He whispered to himself. He turned back to the girl. “Is it the hospital close to the Center?” The girl nodded. “Thanks.” He quickly dialed her mom's number and told her. They both rushed to the hospital.

He got out of the elevator and walked on the white, dustless floor. He turned the knob and opened to see an empty room. 'Did she finally get out of her coma?' Many thoughts like that ran through his head.

A nurse cleared and Min Li's mom was behind her. Her eyes were full of tears. “I'll leave you two alone...” The nurse grabbed her clipboard and walked away.

“W-w-what happened? Is she better?”

Her mom cried and hiccuped. “She..woke.. up..” She dabbed her puffy eyes. “She started coughing.. blood.. and and....” More tears flowed out of her eyes. Ji Yong felt that he might need to cry, too. “She's sleeping now.. in the room next door.” She patted his shoulder and continued crying. “You might as well go see her before it's too late.”

He rushed to the room and opened the door to find a sleeping girl with an oxygen mask on. The doctor turned around to face him. “She has a few days... I'm sure she's a strong girl.” The doctor left the room. Ji Yong placed the cake, flowers, and opened the present. It was a ring. He placed it on her wedding ring finger and kissed her forehead. He left the room, unable to bear the pain in his chest.

It was the same day Min Li had gotten into that accident four years ago. It was the same day of her birthday. It was also the same day.. of her death. Ji Yong entered the cemetery. He didn't bother attending her funeral, afraid he would cry. He didn't visit her grave until this very day, the day he found the courage to step up.

He walked to the location Min Li's mom had given him.

He placed her favorite flowers, Pink Carnations, down on the grave. He took a deep breath. “I never said those last words to you... I didn't want it to end so fast.. I really wanted to tell you how much I loved you, but I guess 'the person up there' had other plans, huh?” He smiled as a tear rolled down his cheek and dropped on the flowers. “I will always love you..” He pounded a fist against his heart. He smirked as more tears dropped on the flowers. “You will always have my heart.” He brushed the dirt off of her picture. “Bye, my love.” He clutched the ring around his neck. The other half of the complete set. The other ring was still on her wedding ring finger, deep down in the ground.

“Ji Yong! Are you coming?”

“Ne, jagiya!” Ji Yong shouted back. He looked down at the grave once more. “That's my wife.. she's pretty crazy, ne?” He smiled and looked at the grave once more before running off to his wife.

Min Li's mom took out Min Li's rainbow covered diary again. She read it on Min Li's birthdays, just to see how her daughter lived her life. She smiled at the last entry.
