Chapter 4
You Against Pearl, Gold, Money, and KimchiBaekhyun and Chanyeol arrived at their shared apartment late night—wherein the city street lights were at its brightest peak, and the busy streets of Gangnam were now quiet—and the two were still restless. As soon as the doors were unlocked, Baekhyun dropped six large paper bags of different luxurious brand names. Park Chanyeol did the same with eight bags. They were casually making jokes and laughing, and Baekhyun did not forget to give thanks by giving him long kisses on the lips and butterfly kisses on his boyfriend’s face.
To calm themselves, Baekhyun opted to order pizza despite having dinner earlier.
“This one’s on me, baobei,” Baekhyun said with a giggle as he saw his boyfriend shifting his face into something uncomfortable.
The two sat on their sofa, comfortably falling into silence. Baekhyun, being the clingy one into the relationship, naturally wrapped his delicate arms onto his boyfriend’s waist. As the smell of the fabric wafted into his nose, the half-Chinese felt at ease. Chanyeol placed his right arm on top of his petite lover’s shoulder frame and opened their television. As he saw the old boring news displayed on the channel, the model immediately switched the channels. Soon after, he found Big Hero 6 playing, the part wherein Baymax was being trained into his gear, and he settled on watching the animated film instead.
While the television was playing, Chanyeol can’t help but recall the event that happened earlier. How did Baekhyun knew Jongin’s boyfriend? And why did Baekhyun show such annoyance? That, alone, was very rare. Baekhyun rarely showed negative emotions, and if that ever happens, something bad must have had happened in the past.
Chanyeol remembered a similar event—the only time his dear boyfriend showed anger to him—and the misunderstanding almost caused them to break-up. Chanyeol, at the time of his rookie days, was always busy to the point he neglected Baekhyun. Photoshoots here and there, and the couple were also on the last few weeks until they reach graduation. Meaning: hell week.
As the young Chanyeol was running late on to their yearly anniversary date, he saw Baekhyun hugging a girl. To his point of view, he thought he kissed that girl’s cheek. Angrily, Chanyeol decided not to show up and spent the night in his sister’s apartment. Baekhyun waited for hours, he remembered, and his boyfriend crying while he explained his side. However, Baekhyun thought Chanyeol cheated on him as the model did not return into their shared apartment for three nights. Their fight lasted almost a week, and their shouts turned into tears and apology, and, well, under the bed. That girl, who he recalled was Kim Taeyeon, was just comforting Baekhyun as she knew how Chanyeol was busy. He recalled how he heard Baekhyun shout for the very first time (and hopefully the last one as well), and he prayed to never see that again. It still gave him the shudders.
The doorbell rang, and Chanyeol decided to get the door and let Baekhyun rest quietly. The smaller one went through every store, and Chanyeol knew that even if he was tired his boyfriend was exhausted. As he opened the door, he quickly placed his pointy finger on his lips as to indicate to the delivery man to be as quiet as possible. Nodding, the delivery man showed the debit card machine. Chanyeol swiped his card and paid for the food in the end, not wanting to bother his boyfriend anymore.
Byun Baekhyun was spoiled by Park Chanyeol, no doubt. He loved spoiling his smaller boyfriend, nonetheless.
“I got the pizza, hey,” Chanyeol softly said as he closed the door. “Baby, wake up.”
Baekhyun jolted awake and slapped himself to regain his consciousness before he puffed his cheeks and uttered, “No, I was never asleep!”
“Whatever you say.”
They both chuckled, returning back to snuggling, and watched the film playing on to the screen. Baekhyun took a big bite of the classic pepperoni pizza before he let Chanyeol have a taste as well. As they were slowly getting immersed into the movie, Chanyeol remembered the events once again and decided to ask his boyfriend on how he knew Jongin’s boyfriend and what happened to their relationship.
Chanyeol thought Baekhyun didn’t hear him, and he was about to repeat his question when his boyfriend decided to respond.
“Kyungsoo’s one of the music professors as well. Like I told you, he seemed to hate my presence, and therefore I hated him as well. Just like between you and Jongin… I don’t know, I think he sees me as a competition. Not that I really care. I know that I am a better singer and musician. Hmph!”
As Baekhyun finished his explanation, a notification caught the two male’s attention—movie long forgotten. Baekhyun fished out his smartphone from his pocket, and immediately replied to the text message. Chanyeol tried to pry, but the whole text conversation was in Chinese. Not that Baekhyun minds his boyfriend reading his text messages anyways. Baekhyun turned off the phone, and he placed them just on the couch. Chanyeol smiled, and he had that so-was-that-a-good-text-or-not look. Baekhyun giggled and shouted, “puppy hug!” and immediately caged his taller boyfriend into an embrace. They stayed in that position for more than two minutes, with Chanyeol’s natural vanilla marshmallow scent wafting into Baekhyun’s smell. He loved it as always. He nuzzled his face into the crook of his boyfriend’s clavicle before pecking the exposed skin softly. He knew the action always drives Chanyeol giddy.
As usual, Chanyeol could only draw small circles on his waist while his other hand was massaging his nape. It was these kind of small actions that made the couple love the silence that they bask in.
“Yeollieeee,” Baekhyun whined in an affectionate manner that resulted into tightening his hug on to his boyfriend. “I think that this is the right time to discuss about us going to China.”
It was Friday night—after a week of formal meetings with the old, ugly, and strict board of directors and shareholders—and there lies a young man who was in his early 20s who made use of his current suit as a makeshift outfit for his weekly nightclub visits. In order to not look too stiff, the young Chief Financial Officer removed his jacket and necktie. He ed his two buttons and folded his cuffs up until it reached his elbows. It was the CFO’s way to look young and to show-off his Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch—his very first watch that he bought with his own hard-earned money.
Wu Shixun decided to revive his young, wild, and free spirit by visiting his favorite nightclubs in Jiangsu. (He has countless of favourite nightclubs, and he would not dare settle with just one). As he was a Wu, one of the most influential family in China, he was already spoon-fed when he was still a babe alongside his older brother. The Wu siblings were granted the golden spoon; thus, were always exposed to lavish lifestyle. Basically a nightclub in Shixun’s world is the same as a middle class person drinking a cup of tea to de-stress.
While he was almost nearing his euphoria, from the intoxication of the alcohol as well as the adrenaline rush, Shixun felt a vibration on his right pocket. He very well knew that no one of his employees would dare call him on a Friday night as he strictly implied that whoever calls him would deal with heavy consequences—unless it was important or if it was Nai Nai.
He could never deny his Nai Nai’s calls. Not unless Wu Shixun requested for a death wish.
“ing—Yifan gege!?” Shixun read out the caller’s ID. He answered the phone call after three vibrations.
