Outkeep VI

The Blue Note

Just a stranger.

That’s all she was to me. That’s all she is to me. Then why does it feel like more?

For the fifth time in the lecture, Nayeon had banged her head against the brown small plastic desks provided by the prestigious school. Every time she would even have a hint of thinking about the stranger, she would either bang her head on the table or smack herself.

After all, it seemed that pain was the only solution to this. But that was also only temporary as the thoughts just came flooding back.

Seriously, can’t this stranger not harass me in my head?

Nayeon was very doubtful that she alone was doing this to herself. There must’ve been some external force or curse once she met the stranger to only think about her 24/7, pain being the only temporary solution.

It must’ve been.

Yet that’s not what her friends thought, actually they thought the quite the opposite.

“Still crushing on that stranger Nabongs?” Chaeyoung smugly replied shoving Nayeon’s shoulder with hers.

Says the person crazy over Tzuyu.

“Oh shush before I smash both your heads.” Jihyo harshly whispered to the two bickering girls infront of her.

Both girls immediately twisted their heads to face to front where the teacher was blabbering on about an interesting subject that seemed to attract everyone but the brown haired Nayeon. Of course her mind was still a hazy over the previous thoughts on the stranger, but something new switched on in her brain.

These people are more family to me than my actual family.

Nayeon couldn’t go against the sentence herself, even if she wanted to. She spent more time with her bunch of idiotic yet lovable friends than anyone else. They were the only ones she went to in trouble, or they would just make her spit it out. Every single mere thing in her life somehow related back to this family of hers, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

She turned her head back to see the intelligent ones looking straight forward, while the others were looking down, chattering, or doodling freely. They were all so different yet someway, somehow they connected like two hands intertwining.

They connected just perfectly.

We’re so different, yet so perfect.

Nayeon smiled softly at the sight of Dahyun and the youngest blabbering about a topic related to music. They way they both held annoyed yet content stares at each other just melted the brown haired beauty’s heart into a slop.

Mina stopped the fight by placing her soft, gentle hands upon the more mature’s shoulder, shaking her head as if to say the argument was useless which Tzuyu just slumped with and nodded to. Sometimes even the most mature can be the most child-like.

Why haven’t I ever appreciated this friendship more?

Nayeon shook her head, focusing back to the professor who was desperate to catch everyone’s attention as the end of the lesson neared moment by moment.

Our friendship is inseparable, literally.

Nayeon clenched her jaw as memories came flooding in. She lowered her head, closing her eyes to avoid the pain.

Yet, why is my family the opposite?

Fights. Arguments. Punches and hits. They were all part of what her parents did to each other. Shouts, yells, smashes, everything.

Back then I didn’t understand, but now I do.

I wish I would’ve understood sooner.

Everything her parents did weren’t out of love, actually in her family that barely existed at all except between her and her poor brother. Sometimes she feels sympathy that her brother had to be born in such a family, that she herself had to be.

They were never in love, they would never be.

It disgusted her when she realized it, yet it all made sense when she linked it together. The fights, the lies, the abuse, everything linked back. The way they looked at each other with disgust, only pretending to at least acknowledge both of their existences when the children came around. It disgusted her how they were married just for the money.

“Hey Nabongs, the bell rang.” The mother of the group said softly, shaking Nayeon to get her out of her daze.

Nayeon just smiled back at Jihyo, taking both of her hands to pull her in close for a hug. Her scent reminding her of the place that was her haven. The home she used to live in with her grandpa.

That soft guy never even let a fly hurt the small school girl, not anything. Even if he spoiled the girl full-time, the amount of love and affection that he showered her with would never compare to the money he wasted on her.

And now she had eight people who were her family.

“Thank you Jihyo. So much.”

Really, I mean it. You were the family I never had.

Just saying but I have exams coming up so I probably won’t be able to update soon.

And I’m obsessed with this really old song called you don’t know Men, it’s just so sad. you probably won’t like it anyway.
