“HEY!”

Yewon hollers out, chasing after the crying Sinb who was running aimlessly towards nowhere really. All that mattered to her was she had to get out of there, she needed time to think.

“HOW FAR ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP RUNNING!”

Yewon yelled out again, tired and annoyed that she had been on the mouse chase for at least twenty minutes now. It was way past midnight and the streets were quiet. It had to be, considering the level of confidentiality their organisation was. Their home base was in this really secluded area with nothing surrounding it but thick walls and lush urban trees. Hearing her friend’s voice, she stopped in her tracks and turned around.

“Stop following me.”

Sinb simply said in her usual cold and unconcerned voice.

“Look, I don’t want to be following you around either kid. But I know I have to, because I don’t want to be finding your dead body somewhere if you run far enough to fall off this 150 feet cliff we’re on.”

Yewon joked. Obviously, she didn’t mean it as she said that just to help lighten the mood up. Yewon was more of the cool headed member in the team alongside Yuna. Despite not having her first on site yet, she was agile, smart, and calm in all sorts of situations. All the traits that a UC should have. Her sarcastic comments were one of the many things that would crack Sinb up and the two friends would laugh over it, complaining about how their abs hurt from all the laughing. They genuinely cared for one another like best friends. And, this was no exception with what Yewon said, Sinb couldn’t help but snickered a little at that comment, which she replied back with another playful and equally sarcastic comment while wiping her tears.

“Well, I just found out I’m potentially immortal, so I doubt I’d die anyway.”

Sinb finally smiled. Yewon released a huge sigh of relief. She walked over to Sinb putting her arm over the slightly taller gir's shoulder as they matched their footsteps walking side by side.

“Listen, I know there’s a lot for you to take in and I’m not even going to try to tell you not to think about it because there really is a lot going on for you.”

Sinb remained silent, not really sure how to reply her friend either. She looked down, watching how in synced their footsteps were.

“Are you listening?”

Yewon plainly asked.

“I know, I know. It was wrong of me to just run off like that I—“

“Hey, listen. I’m not blaming you for running away, and I’m not saying you were wrong either because I would have done the same. Honestly, you were much calmer than I thought. You’ve changed you know that? You used to be so hot headed and fought with Eunha Unnie a lot. Like a lot. I remembered I had to physically break your brawls up with her.”

“Yeah… well… Sojung Unnie taught me to think with my head and not with my heart because emotions get you no where on an on site. I guess, I just gradually learned how to control my emotions and take a deep breath every time I feel like I’d act up.”

She looked down before continuing.

“Sojung Unnie taught me that…”

Sinb couldn’t help but realise how much of an impact Sojung had been in her life. Hadn’t her rescued Sinb three and a half years ago, she wouldn’t know where she’d be now. Probably still being exploited by her father? Turned into a killing machine? She doesn’t know and she was glad she didn’t have to think about those possibilities ever happening and it was all because of Sojung.

The two of them shared a brief comfortable silence as they continued walking aimlessly down the road with Sinb’s head looking down the entire time. Suddenly, Yewon stops which prompted the other girl to do the same. Yewon then dragged her friend to the railings that was on the edge of the cliff they were on. The view was breath taking, with the cool midnight breeze hitting them in the face and the flickering lights of the city in the far distance.

“I wonder how it must be like to live a normal life.”

Yewon spoke her mind. Sinb didn’t answer.

“We arrived around the same time. I was an orphan and then found that you were too.. We instantly clicked didn’t we?”

Yewon grinned before correcting herself.

“I mean used to, when we all thought you were an orphan. I was so ready to screw my entire life up by roaming on the streets. If not for Sojung Unnie, I would probably still be a punk, in a gang, stealing, smoking, doing drugs and all sorts of awful things. Sojung Unnie saved me, so here I am doing something that is actually purposeful.”

Sinb nodded.

“I know you’re going through a lot now and you probably have a lot of conflicting thoughts. But I believe in Sojung Unnie, she was probably feeling the worst and guilty for keeping this from all of us, especially you.”

“I know. I really do.”

Sinb said after having calmed down and her thoughts collected.

“But, I can’t bring myself to forgive her.”

Yewon gave a disappointed sigh. Looking at her friend’s reaction, Sinb felt a little annoyed as no one really understood what she was feeling and going through but herself.

“How would you have reacted if you suddenly found out that you have a father out of nowhere. For three years I lived thinking my parents died and treated Sojung Unnie like my elder sister and looked up to her like a motherly figure. And to add to that, my father used me a test subject? I don’t even know what am I or who I am. I don’t even know how I should react. It hasn’t sunk in for me yet, it’s just too much to process.”

Sinb confessed. In her heart, Yewon really understood and empathised with her friend, but as a member of the team, she didn’t like how they’re falling apart now.  Tears began welling up in Sinb’s eyes again.

“Do you not remember anything from your past? Like nothing at all”?”

Sinb shook her head.

“Not at all… My memory only went back to the day I opened my eyes and seeing Sojung Unnie for the first time. I’ve tried forcing myself to trace my past back but Sojung Unnie told me to focus on training and not dwell on the past, considering how both my parents have ‘died’ there was no point in trying to find out either. ”

“What about your mom? Do you think she’s still alive?”

Sinb glanced up to the skies, she had to admit the sky that night looked amazing, covered in a vast sea of shining stars. She shrugged.

“I don’t know. Maybe she is, maybe she’s up there.”

She said as she pointed up the stars.

“At this point, I can’t trust anything I hear anymore. But I trust you Yewon. I still do. ”

“Sinb… You—”

Yewon wanted to step in again to
