When Ryeowook woke up, the first thing he saw is that everything is white and an oxygen mask is attached to his face. He started to panic when he felt the walls closing in on him as he clutched the hospital gown he’s wearing, successfully pulling on the IV drop attached on his hand thus making it bleed.

“Wookie!”Someone shouted but Ryeowook kept on thrashing on the bed, his arms flailing around and his breathing laboured. As if he didn’t hear someone calling his name, Ryeowook rolled over the bed in desperate attempt to escape the prison-like room. He fell on the floor, bringing with him some medical instruments as it made a loud deafening, clattering noise. The pain of the fall was not registered to him before someone rushes beside him and pulled him in a hug. Ryeowook struggled at first but soon calmed down when he recognized it as one of s, Kyuhyun. Kibum is on his other side in a second as he soothingly rubbed circles on the back of his hand.

“Calm down, Wookie. You’re fine. Everything’s fine now.”Kyuhyun repeated in a mantra, his right hand rubbing the eternal maknae’s back. He felt the latter relaxing in his arms so he took this as a signal to carry the older back to bed, tucking the blanket until his neck as he wiped the sweat drenching Ryeowook’s face and hair. The two maknaes noticed Ryeowook slipping out of consciousness again so Kibum motioned Kyuhyun that he’ll just call the doctor to which the latter just nodded.

As soon as Kibum walk out, he was greeted by a frantic Leeteuk who just arrived from the canteen carrying plastics of food for the remaining staying members; namely Kyuhyun, Kibum, Yesung and himself. Yesung seemed worried as well but tried to hide it with his usual poker face. The others; Eunhyuk, Siwon, Shindong, Heechul and Sungmin chose to stay with Donghae back at the dorms to calm him down and talk to him. The latter was having a panic attack after all, probably traumatized on what had happened.

“How is he?” Leeteuk asked, his hand reaching for the knob of the door before Kibum could answer.

“I was just about to call the doctor, hyung. Wookie had a panic attack,” Leeteuk and Yesung’s breathe hitched; the leader’s hand almost opening the door. “butKyuhyun calmed him down. He’s sleeping again but he pulled his IV and fell off the bed.” Kibum explained. Yesung motioned the leader to go inside the room while Kibum and he get the doctor.

What greeted Leeteuk inside the room broke his heart. Their maknae’s face is buried on the sheets near Ryeowook’s right arm as he held on it; tears soaking the once dried blanket and his raspy voice echoing in the room begging for their eternal maknae to wake up and to get better soon. The room looked as if it’s been ransacked because of the machines lying on the floor, traces of blood was also seen probably from the IV drop that Kibum was talking about. The oxygen mask placed on Ryeowook’s face made his face look so small and fragile. Don’t even start with how small Ryeowook looked like in that bed and blanket covering him.

White.

He wondered why Leeteuk even like that color. Ryeowook like white too, as to what he recalled.

It’s pure, yes. Yet on the other hand, it reminds him of how that color represents life…and death; how the color screams at him as if mocking him that one of the members is sick again, just like how he painfully remembered their accidents a few years ago or back when Hangeng writhed in the hospital bed with his eyes reflecting pain when the antibiotics and painkillers would wear out.  

Leeteuk dropped the plastic bags as he made his way towards their sick maknae, grabbing Ryeowook’s other hand as he tucked the latter’s sweaty hair on his ear. Kyuhyun didn’t even look up but he stopped crying, just occasional sobs could be heard.

They were silent for a while before Kyuhyun spoke.

“Hyung, did you know?”

Leeteuk furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. “What are you ta--”

“He’s hurt, hyung. He’s really hurt… Donghae-hyung didn’t cause all these.” Leeteuk grew even more worried and confused. The maknae was talking as if there’s a deeper meaning to every word he says.

“K-Kyu, I don’t understand.”

“Ryeowook…He---”

But the door opened, revealing the doctor with Yesung, Kibum and a nurse trailing behind him. The doctor looked like in his 30’s, probably a little older than Leeteuk. He looked thoughtfully at the two other members as he bowed slightly before examining Ryeowook. The nurse expertly cleaning the mess made as she and the doctor busied themselves. The members could only look, being motioned like little kids to stay in the corner to not get in the way. Kyuhyun reluctantly let go of Ryeowook’s hand, clinging to Leeteuk like a lost child would.

A few minutes later, the doctor straightened his coat as he looked at the clipboard the nurse handed him.

“Hello gentlemen. I apologize for the late introduction. My name’s Park Hyunwoo and I’ve been Mr. Kim’s doctor for a few years now.” They bowed to the man in front of them but Leeteuk swore he saw the doctor making eye contact with Kibum as if sending each other secret messages.

“I’ll just give you a brief explanation about Mr. Kim’s condition but I have a few questions I need you to answer. Has he been eating these past few days? His weight shows that he’s malnourished. I know that you guys are busy with your schedules but with the looks of his weight, Mr. Kim’s weight could be compared to that of a teenager’s. It’s very dangerous for him to weigh this light so I suggest that he eats complete meals regardless if you guys are strictly ordered to diet.” The doctor began. Yesung, Kyuhyun and Leeteuk bowed their heads in shame. Everything that the doctor said is true. Ryeowook has been dieting really hard these past few years as if his life depended on it even though he’s all skins and bones.

“Seeing your reactions, I could confirm my assumptions about his eating problems. For now, he needs to still be hooked in an IV seeing as he is too weak. Secondly, his body’s under too much stress. I recommend he rest for a few weeks. Third, his x-ray shows that Mr. Kim unfortunately injured his coccyx, the tail bone. It’s just a mild fracture but it is to not be taken lightly as it has a chance it would give him a really hard time in the future. No stressful jobs, heavy lifting, sports for weeks. That means no dancing either. Fortunately, his fall on the bed a while ago didn’t further damage him because the sheets broke his fall as well as his weight is light. Also, the burn isn’t that serious and it won’t leave any marks. I covered it with bandage just in case so it won’t be irritated.Any questions?” The doctor looked at each one of them before his eyes landed on Kyuhyun who seems to be fidgeting on his feet.

“Yes Kyuhyun-sshi?”

“…Nothing.” The singer answered and the doctor’s eyes flickered at Kibum’s direction as if sending a silent message. Kibum shook his head with a sigh.

“Oh and Kyuhyun-sshi, this is an ointment for your feet. I recommend not to move too much becaus
