BoA got down from the bus as her phone kept ringing.

She didn’t have to look at it to know who it was and because of that she just kept running into the building.

She knew that Mrs. Lee was going to scold her again and even more because she hadn’t answered the call.

And even though this time she woke up early, the traffic after she left Yoobin at school was heavy and put her be in this situation once again.

So when she reached her desk panting she was already prepared for the middle age woman and her piercing glare telling her to go to her office.

“You only have two options. Accept the shift change or quit the job.”

Those words weren’t what BoA wanted to hear but after all the scolding she couldn’t expect others.

But she still gave it a try and begged one more time to keep the same shift.

If only she still had her parents with her that could take care of Yoobin after school she wouldn’t have a problem but if she accepted the night shift Yoobin would have to be alone at night.

And if she didn’t want that, she would have to make a new arrangement with Yoochun and that only meant a headache and more chaos to her already chaotic life.

“I’ll give you a last chance BoA-sshi. Just one last chance because you are doing a good job here.”

And BoA couldn’t be more grateful for those words as she bowed and left Mrs. Lee’s office.

She blew her hair away from her face as she sat on her desk only to be greeted by the annoying face of her workmate.

But she wasn’t in the mood to reply to her sarcastic comments so she started with her work because that was the only reason she was still there.

And through all the morning she did her best in order to keep her supervisor happy, so she was surprised when two hours before the end of her shift she was called again to Mrs. Lee’s office.

But this time she not only sighed in relief as she walked outside of the room, but she had a smile on her face.

BoA felt blessed that her supervisor was a good and understanding woman and had given her the opportunity to leave early to encourage her to arrive on time the next day.

So walking happily she left the company laughing at the offended expression of a certain blonde girl and thinking that maybe it was time for a new image.

Or an old image she could say, after all it’d been a while since she had her hair brown or black.

She started walking to Yoobin’s school as it was still early so she thought of buying some food on the way instead of cooking.

But what she didn’t know was that just across the street was a handsome young man waiting for his bus to arrive.

But Jaejoong was too worried to notice because the musical he was going to do a report on was cancelled and he needed to repeat the process of looking for a new exclusive musical or cultural activity.

And as he looked in front of him, annoyed because his bus hadn’t arrived he finally noticed her.

Her short blonde hair made her look different than in the past but that dimpled smile she still carried hadn’t changed at all.

So instead of continuing to wait he crossed the street to meet her.

He knew he should be going to the theater and the museum but this was an opportunity he wasn’t going to miss after she abruptly left the bus the other time.

And he approached her, surprising her, only to receive a smile as big as the one he had on his face.

“Are you busy right now?” Jaejoong asked hoping she wasn’t and when she told him she was free he immediately invited her to the coffee shop nearby.

His his heartbeat was faster than normal and the need to talk rushed through him like never before.

He had so many things to ask, to tell, many things that would help him recover the lost time.

It had never been the same thing being away from her and he knew that more than ever when he sat in front of her as she happily ate her strawberry cake.

“So, why are you out so early from work? Or you are on vacations?” He asked, looking at her with a tender smile.

He wanted to ask so many things but didn’t know where to start seeing BoA so calm unlike him.

But it was only on the outside that she was like that because from the moment he approached her on the street she had been trying to hide her nervousness.

This time she had clearly present on her mind the fact that she had a daughter and she wasn’t sure how to tell him about that.

But when he asked about her job, a topic she loved to talk about, well more to nag about she started talking nonstop.

About how nice was her boss, about how annoying was her blonde workmate, how tiresome was to walk up or down when the elevator broke and that was a regular thing and she ended her rant with the ultimatum she had about arriving late to work.

And as much as Jaejoong wanted to keep a serious face he started chuckling because she was still a sleepyhead and talked a lot when something annoyed her.

BoA pouted looking at his reaction but started laughing too, feeling comfortable telling him about her problems. It had been a while before she could talk about them without receiving a responsibility speech from her parents or a disapproving sigh from Junsu.

She wanted to be a good example to Yoobin, but waking up early was still as hard as when she was in high school.

And just like that without noticing they had started talking about many experiences they had lived after they were apart.

“So, I heard from Junsu that you are a reporter now…I thought you would be a manga writer.” BoA said with a concerned tone.

It was something she wanted to ask because she knew why she hadn’t been able to reach her dream yet, but what would be Jaejoong’s excuse?

“Well, when I traveled to Japan I really wanted to do that, but I realized it wasn’t as easy as I thought…mostly the drawing part…so when I started working for a newspaper I discovered a new passion and studied to be a reporter.”

And as Jaejoong finished talking with all conviction that he was happy with what he was doing BoA thought of introducing the subject of past loves and well, her kid.

But before she started he laughed a bit.

“You look disappointed…don’t be. I actually made extensive reports with manga writers and some conventions. At least I get to know famous writers.” He said with a cheeky smile.

BoA tried to smile back but bit her lip knowing that what made the subject hard to approach was her fear of his disappointed look and words.

Back when they were young they always had many aspirations and she wasn’t even close to them like Jaejoong.

“Umm, BoA…well…I know it’s been many years and you obviously met new people…” and as he kept struggling to deliver his message BoA’s phone started ringing.

She gave him an apologetic smile and answered the phone.

“Hello?....What? Fever?! Ok…umm…ok. I’ll be there in a moment. Ok, thanks.” BoA said hurriedly and stood up.

“Jaejoong I have an emergency and I have to go.” She said without looking at him as she put on her jacket and grabbed her purse.

He was confused. Just like when she left the bus. But this time instead of letting her go just like that, he paid the bill and ran behind her before she could get on the cab.

BoA looked at him in shock but didn’t say a word as she kept fidgeting with her fingers in her lap, only to stop when Jaejoong put his hand over hers.

“Everything is going to be ok.” He said softly even when he didn’t know what was happening and BoA only nodded looking out the window.

Jaejoong felt uncomfortable during the ride since they had never been a silent couple but he was totally confused when the taxi stopped at the entrance of an elementary school.

Both went inside the place, Jaejoong following BoA as she was almost running until they entered the infirmary.

“Yoobin!” BoA shouted as they saw a little girl on the bed with red cheeks and messy hair.

“Mommy…” Yoobin responded weakly.

Jaejoong stood near the door more confused than before as BoA kept caressing the little girl’s hair and talking softly to the nurse.

But his eyes widened when a tall male rushed into the room and hugged the little girl.

“Yoobin, you will be ok. I’ll make sure you will.” He said laying her softly into the bed again as she smiled at him. “Ok, daddy.”

The male exchanged a few words with BoA before lifting the girl and with the nurse’s help he covered her with a blanket as BoA grabbed a tiny school bag.

He left the room slowly with BoA behind him looking worriedly at the little girl’s face.

But she didn’t get to leave the room when Jaejoong stopped her.

“BoA” he called her with a confused expression like waiting for an explanation, but she just sighed.

“I’ll explain later.” She said softly and walked away leaving Jaejoong shocked at her lack of response.

And as he left the school with lots of thoughts crossing his head his shock turned into frustration.

So that’s why she didn’t look as excited as him when they met.

And that’s why Junsu said there was an important thing he had to know about her.

That she wasn’t the same BoA as before.

And as he sat on a park bench he sighed deeply.

He looked as his hands that now rested on his knees and bit his lip.

He had realized that he had no more chances with her because she already had a family.

And it wasn’t in his plans to break her family apart.

But this frustration he had been feeling turned into anger as he blamed her for not waiting for him.

It was true that he hand been in other relationships, but they never lasted as he knew who was the person he really wanted by his side.

And his hands turned into fists as he became mad at himself for letting so much time pass before he returned.

Even when Japan felt like a home to him, he should have returned for BoA so he wouldn’t be regretting all that now.

So he started walking home slowly with no will at all to search for a new musical and only lost in his thoughts and questions.

Because now that he thought about it, would it be better if he didn’t see her again?

Has he lost her for real this time?

And what he wondered the most was, what would have happened if he had approached her that autumn day he saw her walking on campus before he went to Japan?
