In the Midst of the Dark

He let out a deep long sigh.

“Break up with Jungkook. No, don’t even go near him. He’s dangerous, Jin-ah. I don’t want you getting hurt.” The sincerity on the elder’s eyes looked so moving. Lies and mischief are nowhere to be found on his wrinkled but delicate face. But why? Seokjin might be dumb about the world but there’s one thing he knows all his life. The only person he trusts is Jungkook.

He would do everything for Jungkook. In their current situation, Jungkook is the king and Seokjin is his prisoner wrapped around his invisible cuffs. His eyes were already covered and blinded by the illusions of love that  Jungkook tricked him to see. Although Seokjin himself is unaware of it.

“Seokjin, sweetie. Come here. Look at the tree we planted. It’s still here!”

Before Seokjin could even ask, what does the father mean by those words, Jungkook pulled him away from the eldest. But the priest followed Jungkook’s actions and looked at the playing kids starting to vanish one by one.

He should have let them go when it was still not out of their control. But he chose to suffer.

The day passed by uneventfully but pretty smoothly. After the strange advice that the priest gave Seokjin, he just disappeared in the thin air. He wondered if the father was already asleep. But he couldn’t hide the smile in his face as they lay down on a familiar bed.

Jungkook is playing with the lighter, he twirled it between his fingers producing sharp sounds like knife clashing against each other and light it as if it was the easiest thing to do. Well, it is. Creating a fire is easier than breathing and the pleasure it gives is nothing the life could ever create. His wife looked at his hands majestically, seemingly in daze.

The older smirked.

“Honey, do you think everything will be okay?” Another typical question.

“Of course, sweetie. We’re together for everything to be okay, right?” Jungkook swiftly hid the lighter underneath his pillow. “Now, let’s go to sleep.” Jungkook covered Seokjin’s vision. Something he always do before they sleep.

Before he knew it, the younger was already in deep sleep. Another typical night.

Time passed by and today was Jungkook’s last day in vacation. Seokjin still wanted to stay of course. But he can’t have his husband being absent on his work. There’s nothing more important than money after all. As they started to pack all their things, Seokjin sighed.

“Why? Is there something wrong, babe?” Jungkook zipped one of their bags and stand in front of the huffing man.

“Nothing, it’s just that we’re already leaving tomorrow and it somewhat makes me sad.” Seokjin hung his head low, looking like a kicked puppy as he played with his delicate fingers. Jungkook just ruffled Seokjin’s hair and pulled his wife’s head unto his stomach. Jungkook hugged the younger tightly.

Then Jungkook lowered himself to Seokjin’s level and he caressed Seokjin’s soft cheeks to kiss him passionately. Just like the two’s first kiss, Seokjin still can’t betray the feeling how his body react to Jungkook’s kisses. His heart was beating like a hamster running wildly in an endless wheel and his insides feel as hot as if he was about to have a deadly fever.

Seokjin wrapped his arms around Jungkook’s shoulders as their lips moved in sync, creating wet and lewd sounds as they do. The younger parted his lips willingly to let Jungkook’s tongue slip inside his mouth and tilted his head to create a better position. The raven-haired slipped his arms at Seokjin’s tiny waist and lay him down on the white mattress. Slowly, their make out sessions turned into a more heated one when Jungkook pulled out of their kiss and started and Seokjin’s neck causing the younger’s breath to hitch.

Seokjin held Jungkook’s shoulders for dear life when the older started to Seokjin’s polo, revealing his milky white chest. Jungkook started to pepper Seokjin’s chest with kisses and Seokjin couldn’t help but moan as the older’s other hand roamed from his legs to his clothed crotch.

“It’s been a while isn’t it?” Jungkook threw a lopsided smirk when he saw Seokjin’s initial reaction to his movements. Seokjin is kind of very reserved and quiet person on bed that makes for them very interesting. And although Jungkook always wanted nothing but to the life out of Seokjin every day and night, most of the time they would never get any further than heated make out sessions here and there because of Seokjin’s reserved personality.

However, Jungkook is a beast. There was no such a thing for him as tomorrow. And now is one of his lucky days that he’ll get his beloved baby moan underneath his dominance.

Jungkook swiftly removed his own clothing including his underwear, revealing a seemingly hard that made Seokjin’s eyes widen. He suddenly remembered the last time they did anything explicit. He ended up limping the whole week.

Seokjin let Jungkook do all the work including stripping him. Jungkook roamed open-mouthed kisses on Seokjin’s inner thighs but Seokjin just closed his eyes and feel Jungkook’s lips work its wonder on him. He sometimes had this doubt that he was not supposed to give his body on Jungkook even if they’re already married.

It feels like a sin but his body can’t help but to respond on Jungkook’s touches. It just feels so great. He feels so loved. His smile is Seokjin’s everything. He knows that he’s not perfect and his mental health is not stable for some reason but every time he’s with Jungkook. Everything feels like he’d been put into a deep sleep.

It’s relaxing and dream-like.

Without any preparations, Jungkook stretched Seokjin’s legs and placed it on his shoulders. And without hesitation, he ed his huge deep into Seokjin’s but even though it was painful, the younger did not let out any noise instead, his nails clawed into Jungkook’s back in response.

Jungkook moaned loudly as he could feel Seokjin’s tight walls clench around . The heat feels like heaven and he couldn’t help but to feel more of it. He started kissing Seokjin’s milky white neck as he moved his pelvis and ram his in and out of Jin’s hole.

The bed is squeaking as if it’s about collapse as Jungkook seek his own pleasure while Jin spreads his legs more to give Jungkook more access. The two bodies move roughly against each other. The sound of Jungkook’s slamming into the younger’s tight hole sounds like slapping.

“J-Jungkook—ngghhh” Seokjin tried speaking but then he released a small moan that encouraged Jungkook to go deeper and rougher. Jungkook held Seokjin’s legs and bent him more and god knows how much he loves Seokjin’s flexibility more than anything else.

Out of a sudden, Seokjin couldn’t help it anymore when Jungkook changed his angle. He moaned gracefully.

“So, you like it rough, huh?” Jungkook ghosted his lips on Seokjin’s, staring at the younger’s half-lidded eyes as he continued hammering on that certain spot.

Seokjin’s body couldn’t take it. The pleasure was too strong for his liking. And before he could even reach his , his brain shut down involuntarily and his eyes drifted into darkness without his permission.

But he saw something before he completely lost consciousness. It’s a message written in blood.

A child was running cheerfully. Its familiar laughter echoed on Seokjin’s ears. ‘Again this dream.’ Seokjin thought. ‘I better wake up now.’ But the child stopped midway and it spoke… To him.

“Are you going to leave?”

Seokjin froze in pure shock. The child’s back was facing him. He already heard that voice somewhere. But no matter how he search every corner of his mind, he just simply can’t remember when and where.

“Actually, I have something to show you. They were the people I love and they’re very precious to me. But no one understands how important are they that’s why I’m going to show them to you.”

The child walked silently and Seokjin just followed his footsteps as if in trance. The boy was nothing but familiar even though Seokjin knew it is just a dream. A product of his unstable mind. A hallucination.

Then after a minute of walking, a door appeared out of nowhere. The boy reached the rusty door knob with its small hands and opened the door with a creak. Seokjin followed the boy inside. They were greeted by the hollow darkness and cold atmosphere but soon, the light was switched… without anyone turning it on.

The room is dim even though the light was on. Every corner of the room was black as if someone had spilled a black paint and let it trickle down to the floor. Then the boy walked in a lonely wooden table with various picture frames displayed. It was fascinating… Too fascinating.

“I let them with me because they’re important. I love them. I really do. But people always say I did the wrong thing.” The boy let out a sinister laugh. “What do they know?”

The boy picked out a picture frame, leaving the other three and seems to stare at it longer than he should. “And this person is the most genuine of them all.”

The boy turned his head little by little sideways to take a peek at Jin with his pool of red eyes. Seokjin’s heart raced in fright and his muscles stiffen. ‘Jungkook, please wake me up.’ He could feel tears starting to trickle down at the corner of his eyes. He wanted to shout and to run away but he felt useless. He can’t do anything.

“Aside from the moon, he is the perfect company every night.” The boy was now facing him. The child looked harmless. He looked just like any other kids but his pale face and lips said the opposite. And red streak of liquid leaked out of his left eye. But he was smiling. “The only person who said he understands what I’m feeling and helped me to get through everything. He’s as beautiful as the constellations that brighten up my night and as sweet as a melted candy that swoons over my tongue.”

The boy took a step forward, in the spot light and the face on the frame he’s holding came into vision. It was Seokjin’s face. He was smiling brightly on the picture but no, it couldn’t be him. It was all a lie.

A voice he’ll recognize upon his death ghosted at the back of his ear. “I love you, sweetie.” Jungkook.

Seokjin wanted to scream for Jungkook but his voice seems to be drowning. Then the boy was gone and darkness engulfed the whole room. But that was not the end.

An old woman was struggling. Her feet were swaying on the air as her hands were desperately trying to remove the rope tied on his head. But the place was lit on fire. She’ll die either way.

“Seokjin-ah…” A voice echoed.

“…”

“Did he do it again?”

A sob broke out. “M-My mother was away. He said he’ll play games with me. I’m so stupid.”

“No, you’re not stupid. It was our parents’ fault. You didn’t wish for it to happen.”

“But everytime my father touches me I feel so dirty. H-He said he’ll just play with me…”

There was a moment of silence.

“My parents are always away for business work ever since I was a child. My brother always hit me with his guitar and make me do all the house chores. My parents turn a blind eye every time they see my bruises. They said it was my fault for being stubborn. My father would lock me up in a closet for days and my mother would always sweet talk me but she doesn’t care one bit. They all say it was my fault, my fault, my fault, everything was my fault! They said I was a mistake.”

“…”

“Do you want me to help to end this all, Seokjin? Because I know a way to get rid of those petty ers.”

“Do you think we’ll be okay?”

“Of course, we’re together for everything to be okay, right?”

Seokjin’s eyes shot open and he was greeted by again, the darkness. His body was sweaty and he’s trembling but when he tried to move his fingers, he sighed in relief when it was finally moving. But then he recalled his dream but remembered a different memory instead.

He rushed off to the nearest bathroom with the and blood stained blanket he grabbed to cover his body. He puked his guts out to the toilet bowl and when he finished, he flushed the toilet and sat lifelessly on the cold ground.

His mind was in haze. He couldn’t distinguish the dream from a memory. He had a family?

He couldn’t help but to cry in stress. He wrapped his body around the blanket to seek warmth when the light on the bathroom suddenly . He looked outside the door and five shadows missed his vision.

“Jinnie, my little Jinnie. Wanna play with daddy?”

Seokjin pulled his hair, his head was aching so badly. He couldn’t accept those memories.

“Seokjin-ah, didn’t you say you had a lighter and a gallon of gas on your house?”

“Hmmm… Why?”

“How about setting our place on fire?”

Seokjin remembered everything. The child was… Jungkook. They knew each other from the start. They didn’t meet on this orphanage. They knew each other all along. And he was not abandoned by his family.

He killed them.

“That’s why I told you to stay away from Jungkook, didn’t I?” The bathroom’s light flicked a switch and the room was dark again. Father Min was standing outside but he was so far. Then he heard children’s laugh as if they were playing and a bark of a dog. Janggu?

A dog ran into Father Min’s hands. It was indeed Janggu just from the way it wagged its tail. But how? Seokjin looked more closely but… the dog doesn’t have a head.

Seokjin fought his shock and ran out of the bathroom. He doesn’t care anymore and when a figure of the same woman on his dreams except that she was half burnt and her face are barely visible stood in front of him, he opened the nearest door on his reach and locked it from the inside. Seokjin panted heavily. He just wanted to get out of this place.

When Seokjin scanned the whole room, he recognized it as Father Min’s old room where he used to keep the children’s personal files. But now that he looked at it, even at the dark, everything looked destroyed and burnt.

Little does Seokjin know that everything was already destroyed a long time ago. Only he can’t accept that fact. Father Min, Janggu, the children; they were all dead. They don’t exist. But their spirits linger around Seokjin for such a long time.

Seokjin pulled the blanket closer as he looked at some old papers scattered around the old desk. They were Jungkook’s and Seokjin’s  personal files.

Name: Kim Seokjin

Gender: Male

Age of Admission : 7 years old

-Victim of repeated ual abuse by a family member (father) and an only survivor with Jeon Jungkook on the past Gwacheon arson case. Had temporary amnesia due to trauma and must be observed with special care. He was found outside their house and was brought right away at the orphanage after passing the interrogation. The other family members had refuse to take Mr. Kim in.

- A sweet child, easy to be tricked and must be protected from any harm. Other than lack of social skills there were no other problems.

If it was only a temporary amnesia, why, just why can’t he remember anything all those times when he was with Jungkook? Those memories… he lived all along with a murderer. Everything suddenly feels like a total deception. They’re all lies. Father Min was dead. They were alone in this abandoned house.

And his father… Seokjin crumpled the sheets in his hands and threw it across the room as if it was on fire. Anger and confusion was all on Seokjin’s eyes.

“I let them with me because they’re important…”

‘He should have let them go when it was still not out of their control. But he chose to suffer.’

Seokjin suddenly remembered the pills. Does that pills really mean to cure him? Or is it made to make things worse?

“Please help me…” A crying of a child emits inside the room. Seokjin looked around but there was no one in the room. Then a big closet caught Seokjin’s sight. It was very old and full of cobwebs but then there was someone knocking inside of it. Seokjin stepped away from it.

“Please help me…” Seokjin closed his eyes tightly and covered his ears with the blanket, wishing that he’s only imagining things and when he comes back to his senses, this delusion will be all over. But even with his ears covered, he heard a very small shriek coming from the direction of the closet.

As the closet creaks open, thick red blood flowed smoothly away from the eerie closet and trailed towards Seokjin’s direction like a typical leakage. A dirty small hand gripped the closet door and opened it slowly and quietly. Seokjin doesn’t want to look. His mind was a mess and the only thing he wanted to do is to escape.

A high pitched bark then was heard from outside the door. The kid on the closet bent its limbs with multiple cracks heard until it was in a very awkward position. Its eyes were hollow as if someone took its eyes out and his mere head looks like a skull with hair. It walks towards Seokjin in a rapid but noisy movement that made Seokjin almost pass out at that moment. He could feel its breath ghosting on his hands until…

“Kim Seokjin, sweetie. Are you there?”

Seokjin wants to open the door for Jungkook.

“Babe, open the door for daddy…”

But there was something wrong with Jungkook’s voice. It seems too deep as if it was coming deep down the ground.

“KIM SEOKJIN THE DOOR!”

‘I love them. I really do. But people always say I did the wrong thing.’

‘Do you know why I killed them? It is because I love them so… much. And I want the people I love to be with me…Always.
