What's Your Story?
Long Way DownThe morning came much too quickly for Ravi. He let out a muffled groan as he buried his face in the fluffy pillow beneath him, screwing his eyes closed against the bright light streaming from the window above him. He didn't feel like he had slept at all- his vision was still fuzzy and his head still heavy. He made another low sound at the back of his throat and twisted onto his side, finding himself groping the mattress beside him blindly for Taekwoon. Nothing.
Ravi scowled and raised his head, scowling at the empty space next to him. It didn't even seem like anybody had occupied that side of the bed; it had already been made up and was cold to the touch.
"Good morning."
He jumped at the sudden voice and turned his head groggily to see Taekwoon stood behind the kitchen counter, stirring something in a large frying pan with his right hand whilst holding a book in the other. It, like many of the other books he had seen on the shelf yesterday, seemed over read and worn. It was only then, Ravi noticed the sound of the morning news being read on the small DAB radio on the counter. His eyes drifted to the clock to see it was, in fact, half past eight. Well damn...
"M- Morning," he mumbled as he struggled to sit up without making himself too dizzy. He failed and almost fell onto his face when he got up, causing Taekwoon to smirk. "You're just in time," he told him, putting his spatula down and turning up the radio when the news had finished and the DJ began his playlist for the morning. As with most morning radio hosts, he had selected a typically light, smooth song that Ravi actually recognised vaguely. He had met the artists once, a young brother and sister. This number was called 'Time and Fallen Leaves', if he remembered correctly.
Hobbling tiredly over to the bench where Taekwoon was beginning to plate the food up, he sat on one of the three stools and waited patiently with his chin resting on his fist before a plate of scrambled eggs, rice and a small bowl of soup was placed in front of him. "Woah," he gasped in awe. He couldn't remember the last time he had eaten breakfast- usually, he would just eat whenever he got the chance.
"Is it too much?" Taekwoon asked sheepishly as he set his own identical meal down in front of the seat beside the rapper along with two mugs and a pot of coffee between them. "No, no!" Ravi exclaimed, already shovelling a large portion into his mouth "Thank you!" The other man grinned and looked down at his own breakfast, but he didn't dare eat anything. His stomach was churning. He had tried to throw up in the toilet when he had first woken up but he couldn't shift anything. He didn't want to risk vomiting now, not in front of his guest.
His eyes fell on the coffee pot longingly; he would be able to keep that down, right? He nodded to himself and began to fill his mug. However, as soon as the first waft of the rich fragrance infiltrated his nostrils, he set the pot down and dipped his head. Bad idea. He, Jung Taekwoon, felt sick. Really sick. He had to get to the bathroom before he involuntarily surrendered whatever was in his stomach- probably just mostly bile.
Ravi noticed the colour draining from the man's face and set his chopsticks down. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked as Taekwoon jumped to his feet and rushed away through the doorway on the far side of the room by the bookshelves, hearing the sound of the man heaving as something heavy and incessant hit the water in the toilet bowl. He winced and walked gingerly over, knocking on the doorframe lightly "Can I come in?"
"N- No..." Came the hoarse reply "I'm fi..."
Taekwoon's words dissolved into more spluttering as he pathetically lowered his head back into the toilet, allowing the acid to spill from his mouth, burning his throat as it clawed it's way out of his stomach. Ravi hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to go in or just go back to his breakfast, allowing the radio to drown out the sounds of Taekwoon throwing his guts up. He was sure he would only embarrass the man if he came in and started rubbing his back like they were a couple of lightweights in a nightclub they were too young to be in. However, that's exactly what h
