One | The Pitfalls of a Dancer

Lotto [Poetry Collection]
And in yours eyes there's the testament
Of what one can see, if their body moves through
Callouses on feet. Tanned skin (do they whitewash
More if you deny them?) and eyes that forgot long-ago
How to glint. I hope she does good by you, feckless dancer,
For in music and in passion, I will you to rise. Clothe
Bandaged soles in designer shoes, carve meaning through
Action and forget such melodies; you are a dancer, you are
A man. They don’t know that, yet we do. Remember how
Ethereal you once could be, and how you used to laugh
Without remorse or regret. Laugh for me now,
Smile in sincerity, and removes the gauze that stifles
Your feet.
