Chapter 3

Best Friends Forever

A few weeks later on a particularly rainy night, Jongdae was feeling glum. He had had feelings for Minseok ever since he started high school. He realized how much he missed Minseok when the boy wasn’t around and thought to himself that, maybe he had feelings for him. He already knew that Minseok was biual, he was the first to know. His parents were surprisingly accepting of his uality. Jongdae on the other hand didn’t have it as easy. A year or so later when he determined that he was also indeed biual, he told Minseok, and then his parents, his dad being accepting, to an extent, becoming uncomfortable when the topic was brought up and his mom who told him that liking both es was wrong and thought he was completely delusional. He remembered being comforted by Minseok, who held him close as he cried. That was when it was official. That was when he determined that he was in love with his best friend, Kim Minseok.

Any who, Jongdae had a feeling that Minseok saw him as nothing more than a friend so he decided the ‘Jongdae’ thing to do was to go out and get drunk. No car. No umbrella. Nothing. Ok maybe except for his phone (he found himself enjoying Candy Crush when he was drunk.) He ordered several shots of tequila and the glasses began to stack up. The bartender Hoseok and his boyfriend Taehyung often found Jongdae at the bar, drinking away the fact that Minseok hyung didn’t like him blah blah blah that he would be lonely for the rest of his life, you know, the basics. But that night in particular, Jongdae was going overboard. Taehyung noticed the tilting tower of glasses and went to find Hoseok.

“Hyung,” Taehyung called, walking towards his boyfriend.

“Yes baby,” Hoseok turned around and pulled his boyfriend close by wrapping his arms around Tae’s small waist.

“Jongdae hyung is drinking a lot, he needs to go home and get some rest.” Tae seemed worried. He always became worried for his beloved hyungs.

“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him,” Hoseok leaned in and gently kissed Taehyung, who eagerly kissed back.

“I love you,” Hoseok smiled, rubbing his nose against Tae’s.

Taehyung giggled. “I love you too, hyung."

                        ~*~

Hoseok approached Jongdae, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Hyung it's a good time for you to head home.”

“What home. I ain’t got no home. Minseok doesn’t love me,” Jongdae whined.

Hoseok mentally face palmed. He would have commented on how what Jongdae said didn’t make any sense, but Taehyung had said weirder things.

“Just walk back to your apartment and get some rest,” Hoseok helped Jongdae to his feet and pushed him out the door. Jongdae gave him a cute pouty face, but thanks to years of training at the ‘Don’t fall for cute pouty faces’ academy, directed by Kim Taehyung, he was unfazed.

“Such a rude dongsaeng,” Jongdae slurred before tottering off towards his apartment.

                        ~*~

Hoseok and Taehyung began closing up. Tae went to turn off the OPEN sign when a dark figure ran past the front window. He looked to the left, down the sidewalk, to notice a body lying on the wet concrete.

“HOSEOK!” he screeched. Hoseok came running.

“Babe what's wrong?" he asked

Tae could only point before burying his head in his boyfriend's neck. Hoseok saw the body.

“Tae stay here.” Hoseok kissed his boyfriend’s forehead and ran out to check the body. ‘Oh god’

Jongdae

       ~*~

Minseok checked the clock on his nightstand.

‘2 ing 30 in the morning. Who the is calling me at such an ungodly hour?’

He checked his phone.

Taehyung~

“What the- Hello?” Minseok answered.

“Oh my god Minseok-hyung!” Tae sounded like he was crying.

“What's wrong Tae talk to me.” Minseok sat up in his bed. “Are you hurt? Where is Hoseok?”

“He’s right here hyung but it's not me who’s hurt! It’s Jongdae-hyung! He came drinking again and we sent him home as usual but he was robbed and beat up and he’s still unconscious you have to come out here hyung fast!!”

Minseok wasted no time. Ending the call with Tae, he pulled on his shoes and ran out of the apartment.

                        ~*~

It was raining hard and Minseok was soaking wet, but that didn’t stop him from running as fast as he could to get to Jongdae. Upon arriving, there were police cars outside the bar, arresting a dark figure. Minseok looked around frantically.

“Minseok-hyung!” he turned to see Taehyung. He ran and enveloped the younger in a tight hug.

“Where-”

“He’s inside come on,” Tae said as he dragged Minseok inside.

There he saw Hoseok treating a battered and bruised angel, Jongdae, who was out cold. He approached Jongdae and kneeled next to him. He ran his fingers through the boy’s raven colored hair, brushing the bangs aside. He couldn’t help but let a few tears escape. Hoseok and Taehyung walked out of the room hand in hand, to give Minseok some privacy.

“You pabo,” Minseok finally said. “Why did you have to go out drinking huh?” He was grazing his thumb along Jongdae’s jawline. He couldn’t help but to cry harder, tears now streaming down his face.

“You know I worry about you right? I worry about you a lot,” Minseok choked. When Jongdae didn’t stir, he sighed. He leaned forward and pressed a long gentle kiss to Jongdae’s forehead. There, Minseok sat next to him, resting his head on the couch, and fell asleep, his fingers intertwined with Jongdae’s.

                        ~*~

Jongdae opened his eyes. He seemed to be in the back room of the club. He groaned as he sat up. His body hurt really bad. That bastard beat him good. Attempting to stand up, he made it to his feet but his legs gave out, causing him to fall to the ground. He hissed as he felt pain shoot through his arms.

“Jongdae!” He looked up to meet Minseok's worried eyes. Minseok knelt down infront of Jongdae pulling him up into a hug. Minseok began to cry.

“You stupid why did you have to go out drinking huh?! Taehyung called me and I was so worried I ran all the way here, and look at you! You’re all beat up!” Minseok went on and on, tightening his grip on Jongdae. Jongdae hugged him back.

“I’m so sorry hyung I didn’t mean to worry you,” He whispered, trying not to cry himself. Minseok pulled back and cupped both of his cheeks, gently brushing Jongdae's left black eye.

“How much does it hurt?” Minseok asked softly, sniffing.

“It’s ok really hyung it doesn't hurt that bad-ow,” Jongdae winced when Minseok touched his blood stained nose.

“I’m sorry,” Minseok said softly. “Why did you come out here anyway?"

Jongdae felt ashamed. This was all his fault. He couldn’t tell Minseok that HE was the reason he came here tonight. But when Jongdae looked into Minseok's eyes, he saw worry and sincerity. Minseok still had his hands on Jongdae’s cheeks and his face was mere inches away. He waited patiently for an answer.

“I-“ He paused and a tear fell from his eye. He felt Minseok caress his cheeks gently, wiping the tear away, as if to say ‘Go on’.

“I was thinking about us, you Minseok.” Minseok listened intently.

“I- I fell i-in love with you hyung. Since you left for high school a-and since you comforted me after I came out to my parents.” Minseok’s eyes widened a bit at the confession. “I came out here because I felt like it was over for me. I’ve only ever really liked one person and the fact that he probably only sees me as a friend stabbed me hard in the chest. I was trying to forget by drinking, but it only seems to have gotten me into trouble,” Jongdae chuckled softly, but then winced, feeling a sharp pain in his chest. “It doesn’t matter though. Just as long as you’re happy nothing else matters. I can live without-“ Jongdae’s self pity was abruptly stopped by a pair of warm, plush lips, belonging to Minseok.

Minseok was so heart broken. He had never known that Jongdae felt that way about him and he regretted never knowing. He kissed Jongdae gently and Jongdae kissed back. They were both crying at this point when the kiss became a bit more desperate. Jongdae placed his hands on Minseok’s chest and Minseok pulled him close by the waist so that their chests were flushed together. Minseok then pulled away and rested his forehead against Jongdae’s, staring deeply into his eyes.

“How could I not like you. You have always taken good care of me and our friendship. I can’t say that I have always felt the same way but I regret it so much. I feel stupid for not realizing it sooner. I am so sorry Jongdae.” He kissed his forehead and smiled gently. “I’m in love with you too.”

Jongdae smiled shyly, forgetting the pain because he was so absorbed in the beautiful being that was Kim Minseok. He leaned in connecting their lips once more before he buried his head in the crook of Minseok’s neck.
