Of Emotional Cons|First Sight|
It wasn’t something that happened to a seasoned liar and fast talker like him, especially when focused on a con as important as this. One could say he had a one track mind when it came to things, but at that moment he was struck truly dumb.
His heart was racing, tongue tied and mind completely devoid of a coherent though. It was perplexing really that one look in her eyes had rendered him completely senseless, as he nervously averted his eyes trying to hide his obvious awe and collect his thoughts. He did stammer, and was fumbling over words as he directed her to a table to conduct the would-be interview.
It was easy to con someone into a job, the whole room was evidence of that, yet the conscious he’d thought had long since died wouldn’t allow him to recruit her into his scheme. Somehow, he managed to conjure an excuse to remove Mijoo from the impending conversation, knowing the woman would be surprised at him letting go of a willing applicant. He didn’t even understand why he was doing it yet, but he pulled the application form from her hands, before fumbling with another explanation as to why she shouldn’t work there, and going as far as offering to find another job for her.
Perhaps it was those big brown eyes filled with trust, sincerity and a hint of mutual curiosity that prompted it, or the unsure nervous energy that radiated off her in eager waves. All he knew was that he couldn’t do it. His heart couldn’t allow him to pull her into it despite the room full of victims he’d pulled into the scheme.
His heart stuttered at the smile she gave him, while giving him her number and name. Hell, his lips threatened to mimic hers in a wobble of a smile before she left. Eyes unable to stray away from the door long after she’d left; still confused as to why he wanted to protect her and why he reacted to her the way he did.
Even when Mijoo interrogated him on his peculiar actions later on, he’d dismissed her with a less than convincing excuse that she didn’t believe.
Chun Sunghee. Why did her mere name make him so nervous?
Author's Note: I’m still trying to get back into the grove of writing without writing pages of story without ending up deleting it. It’s rough, but 38 Task Force has inspired me to write something. I’ve decided to make this a multi-chapter fic with alternating introspective points of view from Jungdo and Sunghee at various moments in time.
Comments would be lovely and greatly wanted, helps me know what you think. Constructive Criticisms is welcomed, because it helps me improve. Flames … “to each, his own”.
