Streets were dimly lit, accompanying the moonlight overhead. It was past midnight when Sejeong finally stepped into the dorm.

They must’ve fallen asleep by now.

A soft sigh escaped her lips as she walked by the living room, dark and empty of any wake souls. She silently continued walking, stopping only in front of the biggest room Nayoung dubbed as ‘loud kids room’.

She twisted the door’s knob, trying her best not to make a sound. She peeked inside as she pushed the door open. A genuine smile appeared on her lips as she took in the sight before her.

Somi was on her bed, limbs sprawled out with a big plushie lying on top of her as a cuddle-buddy. In the far left, Jieqiong shifted in her sleep, turning around and mumbling a set of indecipherable noises. Seconds after, she succumbed back into her deep slumber.

Cuties.

Sejeong set her bag down and walked towards the sleeping penguin in the corner. Sohye’s legs hang loosely from the edge, on the verge of abandoning her bed. Shaking her head in amusement, Sejeong held the sleeping girl’s legs and gently moved them back to their supposed place.

She approached Somi next, lightly running her fingers through the maknae’s long locks. Somi grunted in her sleep, her face looked very dismayed, and Sejeong let out a soundless laugh at the frown forming in the younger’s face.

What is she dreaming about, I wonder…

She turned towards Jieqiong, whose socks were bright pink. Sejeong’s mind wandered to the chatroom saga earlier, remembering Sohye’s mention of her missing socks. If only she hadn’t been removed from the chatroom, she’d probably know the outcome of Nayoung’s search expedition in Jieqiong’s drawer.

Speaking of chatroom…

Sejeong walked towards the door with tired steps. She was exhausted, but there was one more person she wanted to see before she went to sleep. She maneuvered through the dorm quietly, and before long, she found herself standing in front of the ‘deep sleepers’ room.

Inhaling deeply, she stretched her hand to touch the door’s knob and twist it open. Her ears perked up when a click echoed through the dorm, signaling that the door wasn’t locked.

She pushed the door open and peered inside.

“Oh, it’s you.”

Sejeong blinked as Nayoung’s head emerged from a blanket, turning and staring at her with sleepy eyes.

“You’re awake?”

“I heard the door’s knob turning.” Nayoung yawned and turned back to her bolster, sighing in contentment. “Go sleep, Sejeong.”

“Um.” Sejeong’s eyes traveled towards the bunk in her left. There was Chungha, hair tied up in a bun, curling peacefully in her bed with blanket half-covering her.

“Mina?” Nayoung mumbled in a questioning manner.

“No, I’m alone,” Sejeong replied without taking her eyes off from the sleeping girl. “Since it’s too late in the night and she has school tomorrow.”

“Alright.”

It wasn’t easy, but a minute of concentration allowed Sejeong to notice the subtle rise and fall of Chungha’s chest, which wasn’t covered with her blanket.

She probably messed up the blanket in her sleep.

The silence stretched and Sejeong would have thought that Nayoung had gone back to sleep if not for Nayoung’s drowsy words,

“I’ve added you back to the chatroom.”

Sejeong smiled sheepishly, “Thanks.” With careful steps, she let go of the door’s handle and entered the room. Nayoung’s eyes followed her movements as Sejeong padded her way to Chungha’s bunk.

“She hasn’t appeared in our group chatroom yet she came up to me and persuaded me to add you back,” Nayoung’s sleepy voice said again.

“Ah… did she?” Sejeong picked up the edges of the blanket and gently reached over to fix the spread. Eyebrows furrowing together, she carefully tucked some strands of hair behind Chungha’s ear, resisting to do more than that. In the end, she patted the sleeping girl’s cheek.

As if responding to Sejeong’s touch, Chungha wrinkled her nose slightly. Sejeong’s hand stilled, worried of waking her up.

Then Chungha sighed in her sleep, the crease between her brows disappearing. A small smile appeared in her lips, and Sejeong finally could breathe again.

“Did you call her?” Nayoung’s curious voice broke the silence once again. Sejeong turned to the leader, whose face was already half-buried into her pillow. Sejeong wondered if Nayoung was actually already asleep, and merely sleep-talking to her at this moment.

Ah, that’s right. No one knows about our secret chatroom yet.

“Maybe,” Sejeong quietly answered, rising from the edge of Chungha’s bed. She casted a fleeting glance to the sleeping girl, acutely aware of the fond smile blooming on her lips.

My insides feel warm and mushy.

She approached the door, turning to check on Nayoung. Her ears picked up soft snores, and she chuckled to herself at the sight.

“Good night, Nayoung unnie.”

Her gaze flickered to the left bunk. She felt her own smile widen, and she whispered in a softer voice,

“Good night, Chungha unnie.”

Then she pulled the door to close it, careful not to make any sounds. She inhaled deeply and turned around, the loud kids room in mind as her destination as sleepiness started to consume her.

Amidst the exhaustion, Sejeong recognized another feeling.

The warm and mushy feeling from earlier.

What does this feeling translate to?

Sejeong picked up several things for her brief wash up before she could go to bed.

I wonder.
