A shared moment in time

It's not so different after all

Each Fahrenheit boy was paired with a S.H.E. member for the waltz portion of the music video. Obviously height wasn’t the criteria for matching them up because if it was, Calvin would be dancing with Ella, they were the tallest of their respective groups. Ironically, Calvin was Hebe’s partner. She was the smallest of the three girls. Of course Wu Chun and Ella were the duo in the middle and that left Jiro to dance with Selina. While poor Aaron the invalid had the chance to take it easy.

There was much heckling going on as Wu Chun and Ella practiced their dance. The last time they had since each other proper was some months ago, though they did meet up for some impromptu meals. Some of their chemistry had been rubbed off evident as they had trouble keeping up with each other with the waltz.

“Wu Chun, can you stop being a clumsy oaf!” Ella exclaimed as her partner almost stepped on her feet. Thank god she was wearing flats. The set was a riot with seven people in front of the camera at times.  “Can we switch please for God’s sake!”

It was good to be back hanging out with the guys though their stylist had a field day today with the citrus colour that Calvin was put in and the random green scarf thing that Wu Chun had around his body that the girls couldn’t stop teasing them about.

“Xin Wo” was a song that the girls recorded with Fahrenheit for their second album and was also the part of Wu Chun’s latest drama, Romantic Princess that Calvin happened to be part of. There seemed to be some semblance of teamwork in the various dramas amongst the guys like how besides in Hanazakarino Kimitachihe, Ella found herself acting with Hebe and/or Selina.

“He’s probably hungry.” Selina called from the side. Like Ella she was outspoken and never missed a chance to poke fun at the guys. As always, Wu Chun with his not so fabulous command of Mandarin and appetite was the of jokes. “Here, Mr Twinkle Toes is all yours.” She shoved Jiro who was next to her watching with his arms folded to the front unceremoniously. Known for being the most agile of the four, he sometimes included a bit of breakdancing and various high intensity dance moves.

Ella stood in front of him. She had a devious look about her that Jiro couldn’t place his finger on. She took his hand and waist. Throwing a look at Wu Chun, she hissed. “Now pay attention, boy.” Then to the production crew member who was counting the steps, she politely said, “Please start.”

And so they moved to the imaginary music. With every dip and coordinated movement, it was seamless as though they were made to dance this together. Soon, Ella forgot the rest of the people in the studio and was just listening to the tune that was playing in her mind. She looked deeply in Jiro’s eyes as the memorised steps faded away and she was just seamlessly moving along to what seem to be the same beat as the boy.

This intimate moment however wasn’t lost on Selina and Hebe. Ella had to admit that she had an ulterior motive for sending soup to the unwell person previously when they were filming. Sure, she would have actually done so for the rest but behind closed doors, she had spent more time and ingredients than necessary on the soup. Her bandmates knew that when this extra “Ella” touch was added to anything handmade by the girl that meant that she had a soft spot for the recipient. Her two usual cronies certainly weren’t around to witness this but they picked up subtle hints when Ella started unconsciously dropping references to Jiro. This was unlike the way she blatantly referred to Wu Chun. They knew straight off even as Ella tried to disguise the fact that she had developed a huge crush on this man.

Hebe nudged Selina who was sniggering at their friend’s blatant display of adoration. Furtively looking around, she observed that at least the guys were clueless to what was going on in front of them. Wu Chun was actually paying full attention to the duo. Hebe could see him mentally taking notes in his head.

“Four!” The production crew member counted the last beat. But Ella didn’t seem to hear as she was arched back with Jiro’s hand supporting her, their eyes still locked. She wasn’t sure whether Jiro felt the connection between them but her heart wanted to believe so.

“Wow.” Aaron called out. Calvin gave a whistle.

With another nudge to Selina, Hebe exclaimed. “That was great! Jiro ain’t the dancing king for nothing.”

Finally Jiro released her. Reality flooded back to her and she stood with her eyes glazed. Jiro cleared his throat.

Ella snapped back to reality and back to herself. With a sharp snap of her head, she bellowed, “Wu Chun, get over here and do what Da Dong just did.”

The shoot for the first half of the music video went well. Wu Chun and Ella moved always a quarter beat before the other two pairs but it looked alright on screen so that was what that mattered. Ella tried to keep her gaze off Jiro.

Though they had grown definitely closer by the time filming of Hanazakarino Kimitachihe ended, even skirting around the corners of good natured flirting, she hadn’t been in contact with Jiro unlike Wu Chun. He had been busy with Rolling Love and he kept his schedule as packed as sardines. Though it was a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder for her. She would be lying if she said that there wasn’t a day he didn’t cross her mind.
