A Little Push

Let Me Be Your Hero

Yuri’s POV

"Goodness, ever since you had a child, I have to lower down my social standards and subject myself to these G-rated social outings," Hyoyeon whined while carrying a loaded picnic basket.

"Shut it, Hyo, you're lucky we even invited you here," Sooyoung responded as she straightens out the picnic carpet on the grass.

"You could at least let me bring some adult drinks, juice boxes? REALLY?!"

I couldn't help but laugh at Hyoyeon's non-stop whining and Sooyoung's determination to shut the former up.

"Auntie Hyo, you're the one acting like the kid here," Seohyun noted, while carefully placing the picnic food on the carpet prepared by Sooyoung earlier.

"Yeah, tell her baby," I chuckled at my daughter's response.

"Whatever," Hyoyeon stuck her tongue out playfully.

"Point proven," Sooyoung added in favour of Seohyun's argument.

"Yah!" Hyoyeon rolled her eyes but I noticed the smile on her lips just seconds after, as she looks at Seohyun lovingly.

I know for certain that Seohyun is her world too, she may not say it out loud, but she's been there for Seohyun every time I failed as a mom.

After we finished setting up the carpet, we then took our seats and I couldn't help but feel happy that we get to do this again.

The last time we did this, it was with Jessica, she was happily braiding Seohyun's hair right at this spot as the three of us just fought over petty things.

I used to avoid going to this park at all cost, but here I am, sitting on this very spot, feeling... content.

Something I haven't felt ever since she left the face of the earth.

"You're different," Sooyoung spoke after we're left alone at our spot while Hyoyeon brought Seohyun to get some ‘real’ drinks.

"What? I look hotter?" I wiggled my eyebrows playfully and Sooyoung just looked at me in disbelief.

"That's what I'm talking about!" she almost shouted.

"What? I'm just joking around,"

"You don't joke around," she explained.

"Not since...,"

It’s true, I was a lot more fun back then.

We were called the three musketeers in Med school, always sprinkling trouble wherever we went.

"You can say her name, it’s okay," I flashed her my sincerest smile.

Hearing her name isn’t as painful as before.

I believe she wants me to be happy too.

We were silent for a few minutes after that, Sooyoung smiled warmly at me, at least not with .

"I love you," Sooyoung said happily and then she hugs me tight until I can barely breathe.

"Uhm... I love you too...?"

"I'm just happy, to see you like this," she gave me another proud smile.

"Okay... Weirdo,"

"When did you get this soft?" I asked her in a mocking tone which earned me a whack on my shoulder.

"I'm a surgeon, I need my arms, I save lives with this one," I said with a smirk, then whack her on her shoulder.

"This arms sculpts beautiful faces and y bodies!" she added a hint of arrogance in her tone.

Just then Hyoyeon came back with an evil grin plastered on her face.

I tried to ignore her but she wouldn't stop grinning, which only meant that she had something to say but she's waiting for the right time to smack me with it.

"What?!" I scowled.

She looked at me with a sly grin but other than that, she ignored me completely.

Instead, she glanced towards Seohyun, "Hyunnie, tell Aunt Soo who you had dinner with last night?"

"Oh god, when will you ever stop Hyo?" I said, surprised that I'm actually not annoyed at all.

I knew this would come up sooner or later.

They’re always up in my business.

"Who?" Sooyoung shot us a puzzled look.

"Your date,"

"Oh wait, your almost date, the one she stopped you from going," Hyoyeon said with satisfaction, as if she had just solved the biggest mystery to mankind.

Sooyoung gasped and clapped her hands wildly, "Oh my god, and you didn't even say a word Kwon?" her eyes widened even more.

"What? It wasn't a significant thing, it wasn't even planned, it just happened..."

I don't even know why I'm being defensive all of the sudden.

"You’re blushing Kwon, you might want to tell your body to get the memo," Hyoyeon laughed heartily and Seohyun joined in on the laughter.

I gave Seohyun a helpless smile and she mouthed an apology towards me.

"You were practically smiling ear to ear ever since I saw you today," Sooyoung sighed in relief.

"Thank goodness, I thought you've completely lost it or something,"

Before I could say anything more to defend myself, the two went on their usual Lets-ignore-Yuri time and they went on talking about Tiffany and me for the whole half an hour.

"So you really like this Tiffany girl?" Hyoyeon whispered, afraid that Seohyun will hear our conversation.

But Seohyun is too busy with her story book to pay us any mind.

"She's just a friend," I admitted.

"So you're telling me you're not planning on getting it with her?"

"Getting what?"

"You know," Sooyoung added, wiggling her eyebrows.

"erts,"

"No, she's Hyunnie's teacher. I can't risk that. Hyunnie really likes her too,"

"Well, does Hyunnie like her more as a teacher... or a mother figure?"

“Do you realise how stupid that sounds?” I said, wondering if they really thought that was a smart choice of words.

“Yes…?” Hyoyeon said without an ounce of hesitation.

"You guys are getting way above your heads!" I exclaimed.

"There is nothing going on!"

Hyoyeon only raised her eyebrow in suspicion.

"So let's say, if I ask her out, are you going to be okay with that?" Sooyoung asked, her eyes narrowing in suspicion.

"Of course you can! Have at it!" I said almost instantly.

"So you don't have dibs on her?" Hyoyeon asked.

"No dibs," I smiled because this is all so ridiculous.

“She’s not a car seat to call dibs,” I added, I feel a tinge of anger in me.

Where did that came from?

"Fine, then I will, ask her out," Sooyoung added confidently as if I've just challenged her.

“Goodluck,” I said.

She doesn’t have a chance with Tiffany anyway, she doesn’t want to date anyone.

After the long day I had at the park, I'm glad that I finally get some quiet time to read new medical journals as I sip my freshly brewed coffee.

I feel so much better after taking two days off from work.

I've told the doctors under my department to page me whenever something arises so I was surprised to not be getting any page at all.

"Omma," Seohyun comes to me and sits at the empty spot beside my bed.

"Baby? Not sleepy yet?"

"No... I'm scared,"

I blame Hyoyeon for telling Seohyun the scary story that happened in our medical school year earlier today. Sometimes that girl can't just shut to save her life.

"Okay baby, you can sleep here tonight," I caress her back lightly, trying to calm her down.

"Really?" Her sleepy eyes widen and she flashed me the most adorable smile to date.

I put my journals on my side table and then lie down on my bed so I could embrace my baby.

"Omma..."

"Yeah?"

"Mother came to me in my dreams yesterday,"

Mother is what she use to call her biological mother.

"Yeah? And what did she say?"

"She said I'm a grown woman now and she's happy that I'm with you," Seohyun hugged me tightly.

"Your mother is the most kind hearted person I've ever come across with," I said when I realise the sound of sniffing coming from her.

"And you look so much like her too, inside and out,"

This made her smile, "Really?"

"Yes, really,"

"Thank you Omma, I love you, I hope you know that," she said, making my heart all warm and fuzzy.

"I do,"

"I love you too, with all my heart,"

****

"Welcome back, Dr. Kwon," Krystal greeted me with a small smile.

"Thanks Krystal, everything okay with my patients?"

I took the chart on the table in front of me to check on their status.

"Yes Dr. Kwon, they are recovering fine,"

"Good, that's good,"

I couldn't help but notice the relieved look on her face.

Too relieved.

"What's wrong?" I asked, suspicious.

"Sorry?"

"You look relieved, something happened while I was gone?"

"No, not at all Dr. Kwon, it's just that, I'm glad you're back,"

"I realised how much of a great teacher you are,"

"Thank you, that's nice to know," I smiled, slightly taken aback by the compliment.

I’m just glad the two musketeers are not here to tease me about this compliment all day long.

"Shall we go and check on the patients now?" I asked, feeling a bit odd with the awkward silence.

"Sure,"

With that, Krystal and I headed to my respective patients rooms which are mostly on the second floor of the hospital.

Before I could grasp it, as I turned over a corner, I accidentally collided with someone.

“AHHH!!” I winced because I feel my chest getting wet and hot.

Then I realised that I've got coffee all over my scrub.

"I'm sorry!"

"Oh my god!"

"So sorry!"

I look up to see the woman and it's none other than Tiffany Hwang.

Her rosy cheeks in full display.

Her eyes still wide open, probably still in shock.

"Fany? What are you doing here?" I asked, surprised.

"Are you okay?"

She didn't answer me, but instead she pulled out her handkerchief and started wiping the wet area on my chest.

Wait 3 seconds and she will realise what she's doing...

Just as predicted, she finally realised that she's practically wiping my s and she stopped abruptly, her eyes clearly in shock.

There’s that cute gasp.

"Sorry... I was too preoccupied with the wetness, I didn't realise what I was doing,"

", that came out wrong," she hit her head with her palm.

I can only chuckle at her expense, "Now that you pointed it out, it does sound wrong," I teased.

She laughed shyly.

"I was looking for you, I wanted to bring coffee for the other night," she said after clearing .

"You know, dinner and walking me home,"

"But... I guess... you already got the coffee… all over you," she said with a guilty expression but I couldn't help and laugh in response.

Why is she so adorably funny?

"It's okay, don't mention it. I hate this scrub anyway,"

I can’t help but smile at her facial expression.

"Doctor Kwon, we have rounds?" Krystal who was behind me coughed before reminding me.

"Ah yes, we do, sorry," I replied, a bit guilty that I've forgotten all about my work.

"I'm going to have to change first though, so you can go ahead and I'll catch up later,"

I smiled as Krystal walked away, looking a bit annoyed and then I caught her glancing at the still flustered Tiffany.

Who stepped on her toes?

Tiffany noticed this, "Is she always so angry?"

"Don't worry about it, she has one of those faces," I joked lightly and Tiffany giggled.

“What faces exactly?”

“The resting face, she’s a nice girl,” I replied which amused Tiffany.

"So why are you really here?"

"Everything okay with your knee?" I asked.

"Yeah, it's not me, Taeyeon passed out in school,"

"Oh no, what happened?"

"Maybe she's just tired,"

"Where is she now?"

"Right down the hall,"

"I'll come and check on her later, after I change," I smiled at her.

"I'm so sorry..." she gave me another apologetic smile.

"It's okay, really, I love getting a coffee bath," I teased and she laughed at this.

Things got quiet for a minute when we locked eyes on each other.

"Okay, bye," Tiffany said, breaking the silence.

"Bye," I replied.

She gave me another bright smile.

Her cheerful smile has already brighten my day.

"Yuri? Aren't you going to change?"

Oh no, I'm staring.

"Oh! Yes! Change!" I said out loud, suddenly remembering that I'm supposed to walk away from her.

Tiffany’s POV

Well, that didn't go as planned.

Not even close.

After spilling Yuri's coffee on her, I literally ran back to Taeyeon's room... Still very much rattled.

I really need to start looking where I'm going.

"Tae, how are you feeling?" I said before I realise that Taeyeon is fast asleep.

"Doctor, is she alright?" I asked the doctor who is sitting beside her.

"Oh hi, I'm Kim Hyoyeon, her cousin,"

She stood up and shook my hand.

"You're Tiffany right? Taeyeon's colleague and Hyunnie's teacher?" If it weren’t for her smiling ear to ear, I would think that she’s trying to pick a fight me due to her rough voice.

Is this the aunt Hyo they were talking about?

"Oh, you're the cousin she was talking about," I said knowingly and she nodded in response.

"Nice to finally meet you in person," I smiled sincerely.

"Yes, I kinda set my friends up with you," she chuckles lightly.

"Yes you did,"

Hyoyeon looked at me intently before speaking up again.

“This is awkward, isn’t it?” she asked, amused with the current situation we are in.

“Very much so,” I laughed along with her.

I cleared my throat, “How’s her condition?”

"She's alright, she's got appendicitis, I gave her pain meds so she's little bit out of it," she smiled reassuringly.

See, my brain works just fine when I’m talking to other gorgeous women.

"What's the next course of treatment?"

"Dr. Kwon will determine that,"

"Most probably surgery to take the appendix out,"

"Oh,"

Dr. Kwon sounds so... y.

"Tiffany?" Hyoyeon snapped me back to reality.

"Yes, sorry, I spaced out for a bit there," I said regretfully.

Just then, someone opens the door to Taeyeon’s room.

The person that’s been affecting my brain’s functionality.

"Hi," Yuri greeted me with that crooked grin.

"Hi," I greeted back, suddenly shy that she's staring at me again.

She’s got to stop that!

"Kwon! We were just talking about you!" Hyoyeon said out loud.

"Piss off Hyo," Yuri chuckles.

Yuri took Taeyeon's chart from Hyoyeon and skimmed through it.

Other than her y laughter, y name, her focused face is also so damn y.

After both Hyoyeon and Yuri discussed the course of treatment, Taeyeon finally woke up.

"Ahhhhhh! What a great day to be alive!" Taeyeon declared as she spread out her arms wide.

"She nuts. She's nuts when she's sober and now she's nuttier when she's high," Hyoyeon quipped.

Yuri and I laughed at this.

"You are way too uptight, you know what you need cous’?" Taeyeon replied.

"Yeah? What do I need?" Hyoyeon asked, humouring her cousin.

" and lots and lots and lots of ,"

"I had three s last night, THREE!!!" Taeyeon laughed to herself.

Hyoyeon seemed to be enjoying herself watching her cousin spew out everything on her mind.

“ addict,” Hyoyeon scoffed with amusement.

Then Taeyeon looks towards me with that look on her face.

Please, don't.

"TIPPPANIII! Did you take my advice and have with Hyo's hot friend!!?"

"DID YOU GET SOME OF THAT?" she yelled when I didn't respond.

Yuri coughed out loud at this and I suddenly wish I could crawl back to my hole again.

, I'm never telling you anything, Kim Taeyeon.

Yuri and I locked eyes accidentally and I could feel myself heating up again.

I could feel Hyoyeon staring at us with a smirk on her face.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, and so did Yuri.

Oh no this is not happening.

.

"Taeyeon, hi, remember me?" Yuri asked, her tone urgent, trying to change the topic.

She's feeling uneasy too.

"Yuriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!" Taeyeon roared.

“Hiiiiiiii,”

“You really do look amazing,” Taeyeon complimented Yuri with a smirk on her face.

Is she flirting with Yuri right now?

Taeyeon then looks towards me and whispered loudly, "Yuri is here, you should tell her..." I covered Taeyeon's mouth before she could finish her sentence.

Yuri looked at me, puzzled with a hint of amusement in her eyes.

"To tell you to thank you for last night," I continued Taeyeon’s sentence.

"That's what she meant," I quipped.

"Sure it is," Hyoyeon spoke with a smug look on her face.

"Hyo, shut it!" Yuri said somewhat sternly but her eyes are still on me, and she's doing that beautiful smile thing again.

What is this feeling in the pit of my stomach?

A tanned and tall figure with short hair came up from behind Yuri.

She’s wearing her scrubs too so I’m guessing she’s her Auntie Soo.

“Hyo, you paged?” she asked, but gave me a knowing look when she noticed me.

“This is Tiffany Hwang, your date, well, supposedly,” Hyoyeon added with a sarcastic tone, but I couldn’t quite grasp the meaning behind it.

“Tiffany, hi, I’m Choi Sooyoung, just call me Sooyoung,” she immediately come towards where I’m sitting and held out her hand for a handshake.

“Hi! I’m Tiffany,” I giggled lightly as I shook her hand.

Sooyoung stared into my eyes for a good few seconds.

“You’re much prettier in person,” Sooyoung said, slightly blushing.

“Thank you, you’re not bad yourself,” I found myself saying.

“In fact, you’re even more gorgeous than Tae described,” I said truthfully.

Does Yuri hang around with hot people only?

“It’s a shame we didn’t get to date,” Sooyoung admitted, a little bit too honest but bold nonetheless.

“That’s… uh…” I muttered, stunned.

“And you won’t ever,” Yuri claimed, interrupting our little conversation.

Yuri then moved to my side, her eyes fixed on Sooyoung.

“But you said…” Sooyoung said with a sad tone.

“I know what I said,” Yuri interjected before Sooyoung could finish her sentence.

Is this what I think it is?

“Fany, you still planning to buy me that cup of coffee?” Yuri asked me, smiling wide while her eyes are gazing into mine.

As usual, I can’t get my brain to work so I just stared at her, speechless.

She looked at me with curios eyes and then chuckled, “Let’s go to the cafeteria,”

I gathered all the butterflies in my stomach and replied, “Sure,”
