Tale of Us
Before That Day Comes
As usual, Choi Seunghyun was standing in front of the new members who looked at him with oh-so-lovely gaze. I stood a few steps behind him, sweeping my gaze to all the members while counting mentally. We had more female than male, and I needed to think hard for the grand show.
The grand show itself actually was a third-year member’s task, which included Choi Seunghyun, but he forced me to give him ideas. Ah, I need to call him Seonbae, actually. I scoffed. Third year member would be the main committee plus script writer, the second year member like me would be either the actor or actress, with the new member became the helper. Well, slaves actually. But if some of the new member had talent, they would also play alongside the second year member.
There would be two shows, actually, a small one before the grand shows, with the third year played scripts as groups. Famous agencies and talent hunters usually came to this show for recruitment. But at the grand show, all important people in entertainment industry would come –either to recruit new talented people in theatre or just enjoy the show. Either way, third year students would be busy preparing themselves, while second year and first year helping them.
I crossed my hands on my chest, slightly not liking the long speech Seunghyun Seonbae was doing. But then I caught a glimpse of Daesung. He was playing with his jacket and not paying any attention to Seunghyun. He chose to sit on the last row, but I knew—
“Oy there! The one who wears black jacket!” Seunghyun Seonbae called someone. I looked at Daesung’s jacket. It’s black. I facepalmed myself. I know Seunghyun Seonbae will notice a person who doesn’t listen to him.
“Me?” He pointed his forefinger to his own face. Daesung’s eyes became bigger and he only gave Seunghyun Seonbae blank face.
“Is there any other person who wears black jacket?” Seunghyun Seonbae put his hands on his hips.
“Ah. I am sorry, Seonbae.” Daesung bowed.
“Are you listening to me?” Seunghyun Seonbae raised his voice to Daesung. But Daesung didn’t answer his question and lowered his head. “Answer this question, Black Jacket. What should you do after this?”
My eyes went back and forth between looking at the chairman and Daesung. I saw Daesung took a deep breath before looking Seunghyun Seonbae at the eyes. “We have to make groups using numbers. Theatre club uses this method for the first time to keep the first year members to gather with their own group, which –maybe- was made even before they decided to join the club. After that, Seonbae will give us scripts as example for us. It’s up to the group whether they want to use the script provided or not. The script also has no ending and we have to think about the ending. We could make our own script, but we have to report to Dong Youngbae Seonbae about the title.”
Daesung bowed slightly to Seunghyun Seonbae. The other new members mouth were agape and Seunghyun now titled his head and bobbed it upon hearing Daesung’s perfect answer. The second year who were standing behind the new members could only turn their head because they couldn’t suppress their chuckle.
“Okay. Thank you for listening to me—” He pointed at Daesung. “Who is your name, Black Jacket?”
“Daesung. Kang Daesung.”
“Alright Daesung. I will remember you.” Then Seunghyun Seonbae gestured a second year student to come to him. “Now you can take your number from Nana-ssi and make group based on your number. Then you can choose the scripts we provided on the table behind you. You may disperse!”
All the students stood up and took the number. I sat on the edge of the stage while watching the crowd. Then Seunghyun Seonbae came towards me and sit beside me. There was a slight frown drawn on his face and I chuckled at that sight. He must be very upset at Daesung. After seated himself, he gestured me to take a bottle of mineral water beside me and I gave it to him. He took big gulps before releasing his rant.
“I have never seen such a rude first year before!” He said while looking at the crowd. First, I looked at him, but then I also looked at the first year members. “That brat!”
“Really?” I snickered then smiled, remembering the imaginary punch Daesung gave the cocky senior beside me. “Why are you so upset? He answered you correctly, didn’t he?”
I saw his Adam’s apple moved up and down. “I know. But I particularly hate that kind of style. I didn’t remember him on my group when I gave tour to the new member. Did he or didn’t he join the tour? If he didn’t join—”
“He joined the tour, Seonbae.” I cut him. “He was with me.”
“Oh…” Still tailing the Black Jacket, he nodded. “What is his name again?”
“Kang Daesung. Majoring in vocal.”
“Wow. When I heard this, I hate him even more. But dammit, we need him.”
“I know.”
“If only Dongwook Seonbae could stay with us longer…”
“Eiii… It’s not his fault that his parents took him back to the States and making you took his place earlier than it should be.”
“But he would attract more vocal major to this club. It’s been a long time we don’t make a musical show, right?”
“Yeah.” I scoffed. “But at least I could see Dongwook Seonbae performed on this stage. I wish Daesung can promote the club to the vocal major for the close recruitment.”
“With that face?” He snickered. “I doubt it.”
I immediately stood up, making him startled. He looked at me in confusion. “What do you mean by ‘with that face’ Seunghyun Seonbae?” I gritted my teeth. “So low of you f
