Chapter Four

Querencia

“I’m sorry,”

“Save it.”

“Oh come on Kimmi! I didn’t think they’d actually pair you up with him.” Youngjae pouted, but his best friend’s face was unwavering. “Look, Myungsoo asked me to pair up. I couldn’t just say no.”

Kimmi crossed her arms, but really she couldn’t be mad at Youngjae. It was partly her own fault for being late. Well mostly it was Sehun’s, darn his curiosity, and also Jaehyung’s, but she wasn’t complaining about that, yet she couldn’t really blame anyone for how the pairings had turned out. It served her right for being late, now she’d have to pay by spending an hour a week in the company of one Mark Tuan. It probably wouldn’t be so bad, she reasoned, after all the boy didn’t talk and generally acted as though everyone else was invisible.

As they walked into the Slytherin common room, Kimmi still deep in thought while Youngjae still sported the look of a crying puppy, they were greeted by no other than Oh Sehun.

“Where did you guys go to?” The tall boy had his eyebrows scrunched up as he took in the expressions on his friends’ faces. He’d been looking for them for the last half an hour, and he was certain that going to the toilet surely didn’t take that long.

Instead of an answer, he received a glare from one of his best friends. Sehun was confused, after all he had no idea just how much trouble he had caused her. Kimmi however did not wait to explain things to him, instead deciding to storm to the girls’ dorm before either of her ‘best friends’ could do anymore damage for one day.

Sehun looked after her, before he noticed that Youngjae was also trying to make a hasty get away. He reached a had and grabbed his shorter friend’s forearm. “So where were you two?”

“Uh…” Youngjae quickly looked around, refusing to meet Sehun’s eyes. He’d always been a bad liar, how he had managed to be sorted into Slytherin is a question in it’s self. “I was in the loo?”

Dia had been rather upset when Myungsoo had picked Youngjae as his partner, she’d been forced to pair up with Seulyi. It’s not like she disliked the girl, in fact they got along pretty well for a Slytherin and Gryffindor. However Dia just couldn’t shake the feeling that part of Myungsoo’s reason for not pairing up with her had been because of the other girl.

Although Myungsoo had complained that Seulyi looked like she wanted to kill him, Dia was in no way as blind as her male friend. She knew the real meaning behind the younger girl’s stares, and although she hated to admit it, it somehow made her uneasy. Sure Myungsoo was just a friend, albeit a close one; but somewhere throughout the years, Dia had found herself hoping that they could be something more. But alas Myungsoo was far too dumb to understand her silent hints. Truly it was a mystery as to why he was even in Ravenclaw. Surely the sorting hat was loosing it’s touch. And now, she even had a rival! What was she to do?! She’d never been one to express her feelings willing; she couldn’t just go up to her friend and tell him that she liked him. However she also couldn’t just give up without a fight either.

“What are you thinking about?”

Dia looked up at the voice, and sure enough the sole reason for her troubled mind was towering over her seat, a playful smile on his face. Some called Myungsoo cold and unreachable, but he had never been like that to her.

“Nothing, I’m just thinking about the classes for tomorrow.” Dia smiled too, refusing to tell him just exactly what she had been thinking of. Maybe, someday, she’d manage to tell him her true feelings. But that day wasn’t today.

“You worry too much!” Myungsoo chuckled as he reached a hand to ruffle her hair, and Dia had to remind herself to breath normally. “Come on, I’m going to hang out with Seulyi. You should come as well.”

Dia tried to ignore the pang she felt at that. The two of them sure had gotten friendly quickly if they were already spending time alone together. Somehow she knew that Seulyi would not appreciate it if she was to tag along, but Dia decided she could be selfish just this once. After all she had known Myungsoo longer, and she wasn’t ready to pull out of the game just yet.

“Sure,” she said with a smile. “Let’s go.”

Jinyoung was in the library. It wasn’t a surprise really seeing as it was his favorite part of the castle. Jackson and Jaebum loved to make fun of him for it, but Jinyoung refused to listen to his friends’ teasing. Classes were just around the corner, and now with the addition of the DA, he would have a lot on his plate. It wouldn’t hurt to get a head start. He was sitting at a table, a thick book about the dark arts in his hands and an equally thick book about transfiguration near his elbow, when someone else  joined his table.

“I knew I’d find you here.”

“Mmmm.” He didn’t even bother to look up, already knowing who it was. He and Elea had spent countless hours at the library studying together.

“What are you reading?” Elea asked as she made herself comfortable and reached for one of the books from the large stack on the table.

“Getting a head start for the next meeting.” Jinyoung replied, eyes still very much focused on the book. “Yerin said something about practicing the patronus charm next time, and well you know how bad I am at it.” His voice was bitter. Defense against the dark arts was probably his worst subject, he wasn’t quite sure how he was going to go through the DA meetings without making a complete fool out of himself.

“Just because your patronus hasn’t taken a shape yet, it doesn’t mean you’re bad at it. It normally takes time.” Elea tried to reason. Her patronus had in fact already taken form, but she knew full well that she was one of the few people in their class who could do it. Jinyoung would always blame himself if he wasn’t the best in everything. Although she could understand why he felt like that, she sometimes had the tendency to act similarly, she wished she could help him to feel better. “You know I can help you with it. We are partners after all. Not to mention we’re supposedly friends as well.”

Finally Jinyoung looked up from the page he had been focusing on. He had been trying to read it for a good twenty minutes, but he still couldn’t figure it out. Maybe he really did need help, especially from his friends.

“Thank you.”

“Jackson,” Seulyi whispered as she lay on her back. No reply. “Jackson!” This time she said it in as loud a whisper as she dared. Still no answer. Her best friend’s eyes were closed, he was either sleeping, or pretending to be asleep.

Seulyi rolled her eyes, had they been in any other place other than a classroom she would have laid a punch on his arm for ignoring her yet again. But as it was they were indeed in their first class of the year. However it hardly resembled that; the room had been enchanted to look like a forest. Probably to give their teacher a sense of home. Seulyi watched as professor Firenz trotted around the class. Never saying anything, only staring. She had to admit that he unnerved her, not to mention that she had never exactly been fond of horses.

The centaur had spent the first half hour of the class explaining how divination was a noble art, passed down by his ancestors, and the cloudy human eye could hardly ever be able to make it out. So really why were they even taking this class, Seulyi would like to know. The rest of the class had been spent in the students laying on their backs trying to make sense of the starry sky to see what the future held. Instantly, at least half the class had fallen asleep. The Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs shared the class together, and Seulyi could clearly make out Hoseok’s snores from the other side of the room. Even Sohee’s frantic shaking did nothing to wake the boy up or to decrease the sound in anyway. Not that Firenz was paying attention to any of them, it seemed as if he was in his own world.

Seulyi decided to give up on exactly what shade Venus was or at which angle it was aligned with the earth or what all that could even mean. Instead she let her mind wonder. To the ‘date’ she had had yesterday. She was happy that she and Myungsoo were getting along, and that he wasn’t jumping away from her like she was a monster anymore. Although at the same time she couldn’t help but feel worried. When Dia had showed up with the Ravenclaw boy, she had been surprised. It was no secret to anyone that Myungsoo and Dia were good friends, however the older girl had been acting rather strangely. She’d clung to Myungsoo more than Seulyi had liked, and the way she looked at him. It had Seulyi wondering. Was there possibly more to their relationship than she thought?

Quickly she shook her head. No. The two of them were just friends. Them being together was as impossible as her and Jackson being an item. Seulyi looked over to her best friend who was laying peacefully beside her. Yes, it was impossible.

On the other side of the room Sohee was busy with her own friend. Hoseok’s robe was scrunched up in her hands as she tried to discreetly shake him awake. She actually found divination interesting, the stars and planets in the sky fascinated her, yet here she was missing out on all of it to make sure her friend didn’t land in detention because of his loud snores.

“Are you kidding me?!” Sohee snorted as Hoseok’s snores only increased in volume. How deep was this boy’s sleep?!

“Don’t bother, it’s not like the teacher’s paying any attention.”

Sohee turned to the sultry voice to see a figure lying down a couple feet away from her. It was the same guy from the Owelry, Jongin was it? His dark hair fell effortlessly into his sleepy eyes, and Sohee hoped he didn’t notice how she stared at his luscious lips.

“Uh, yeah. I suppose.” Now that they weren’t surrounded by screeching owls, and now that she didn’t have Dickstick to focus on, Sohee could finally appreciate just how handsome the Gryffindor Keeper was.

“So how’s Dickstick doing?”

Darn that smirk. “Uh…. He’s ok I suppose.”

“Did he try to bite your finger again?

“Well…”

The rest of the class was spent in pleasant chatter. Sohee was once again surprised at just how easy it was to talk to Jongin. Hoseok stayed sleeping, completely forgotten by the two, until the class ended and Sohee threw him a kick to wake him up.

“What?! What did I miss?!” The boy cried disgruntled. Sohee could only shake her head in reply.

“He’s cute.”

Hyunmi looked at her cousin in disbelief. “He’s our professor!” She cried in a scandalized voice.

“But he’s the Neville Longbottom.” Heejin replied, eyes fixed on the young professor who was circled around by a good handful of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw year sixes. Most of the admirers were girls (but Hyunmi could swear that she had seen Myungsoo in the throng of fans as well), and if professor Longbottom’s red face was anything to go by, he didn’t appreciate the attention at all.

Hyunmi was only thankful that her cousin had decided to admire from a far instead of ogling the poor guy up front. But really she couldn’t blame the students. Hyunmi herself had grown up reading books and hearing tales about the bravery of Harry Potter and his friends. ‘Neville Longbottom’ had been a most heard of name in those tales. There wasn’t a soul in Hogwarts who didn’t know him. Who’d have thought that when old professor Sprout retired, the famous young man would be her substitute.

“Guys,” Minseok mumbled as he held a plant which looked like it could eat him whole, an arms length away. “What do I do with this?!”

“Shhh,” Heejin complained as she swatted him away from ruining her sight. “I’m looking.”

“At what?” Minseok asked, eyes searching for what Heejin was so intently staring at. “At the new professor?!”

Hyunmi gave a small chuckle, Minseok sounded almost as scandalized as she had.

“Yes I know; it’s not like I’m going to start dating him. I’m just admiring from a far.” Heejin shook her head as she moved forward to get a clearer view.

“Is she serious?” Hyunmi couldn’t help but pat Minseok’s shoulder at the rejection in his voice. The guy had been in love with her cousin ever since year one. It was so obvious to everyone other than Heejin herself. Hyunmi could only hope that the other girl would finally open her eyes and see just how head over heels her best friend was.

Yerin was not having a good day. Sure her first official school day as the head girl should have been memorable, but that was ruined all thanks to a giant. Well not an actual giant, however Chanyeol sure was tall enough, and dumb enough, to be one. Everywhere she went, Yerin kept bumping into the Hufflepuff Quidditch captain. She could almost swear that the younger boy was following her just to get on her nerves. It didn’t help that every time they passed each other, they would have a full on glaring contest. On the fifth time that she almost bumped into the guy that day alone, Yerin finally lost her temper.

“Why are you following me?!”

The boy only scoffed at her. “Me?! Like I would actually like to see you.”

Yerin could feel her cheeks heat up at that. “Listen you,” she said as she jabbed a finger in his chest in sync with every word she said. “Ravenclaw are going to win the Quidditch cup this year, and I’ll be damned if I let you ruin that.” She glared at the boy, but somehow the effect was ruined by the huge height difference between them, she could barely even look into his eyes. She quickly contemplated if standing on her tiptoes would be a good choice, but no, she had too much pride for that.

“Is that so?” The boy asked with a smirk. Yerin was sure her cheeks had turned an impressive shade of red by now. Also the feel of Chanyeol’s sturdy chest under her jabbing finger, wasn’t helping her case any. She was angry, embarrassed and slightly impressed all at the same time. But in the end the anger won out on all else. She temporarily thought about docking points from Hufflepuff just to wipe that stupid smile off the boy’s face, but that would be a misusing of her powers as the head girl, and as tempting as it sounded, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Instead she did the only thing that came to her mind, she grabbed her wand from her robe and pointed the tip at Chanyeol. Instantly he freezed. Yerin was a year older than him after all and she was also a Ravenclaw at that. She had more knowledge when it came to hexes and spells. Not to mention that she was Flick’s favorite student. Even Chanyeol had heard of her Charms skills.

Somewhere in the back of her mind a nagging voice told Yerin that she should probably not be don't this. The chances of her getting caught for performing magic outside of class was high. Filtch would sure have a field day if that happened. However Yerin quickly swept that nagging voice aside. She would willing face a detention in the enchanted forest if that meant she could throw a full blown hex on one Park Chanyeol.

It was probably good news for everyone that two unsuspecting figures were passing their way right at that time. Pika and Hoseok were busy chatting, not paying any attention until they spotted their Quidditch captain. He was cowering before the head girl, as she pointed her wand at him, Hoseok would swear that Chanyeol was even shaking when he retold the story (at full blown voice in the common room at that) to their fellow Huffs later that night.

Chanyeol took no time to jump behind his two teammates. His two younger and much shorter teammates. Pika looked nearly amused as Chanyeol clung to her robes. He ducked his body behind her, which was all in vain really, seeing as Pika’s height didn’t even cover half of his.

At this point Hoseok had come out of his daze and instantly launched himself on the older boy, demanding that he let go of Pika. It was a rather funny sight. The mighty captain Park wailing like a four year old, Hoseok pretending like he was a knight in shining armor, and Pika wondering why she hadn’t just taken the other way to class. In the chaos none of them noticed Yerin slipping away with a satisfied smile. However one person noticed. The same person who had been watching her intently for the last few days.

By the end of the first week back, Yeon had quickly realized that year six wasn’t going to be any better than year five. If she had thought that with the end of her O.W.L.s everything was going to go by all nice and dandy, she was in for a rude awakening. When she had finally finished her long day, two hours with professor Slughorn in the dungeons wasn’t exactly considered as fun in her book, she dragged her body into the common room and fell onto the first empty seat she could find.

“Ow!” Well maybe it wasn’t as empty as she had thought.

When she turned her head she saw that she was half leaning against, half sitting on a very disgruntled looking Jaebum. Had she been any less tiered she would have probably changed positions, but by this time she hardly even cared. Instead she cuddled into the younger boy even more.

“Uh…Yeon?” Jaebum wasn’t exactly sure how he should react to this. Yeon had never been an exactly touchy person.

“Too…lemme…away…”

Jaebum was pretty sure that her mumbling couldn’t be counted as an actual sentence, but if her now soft snores were anything to go by, she was dead tiered and had fallen asleep. He sat rigid for a few seconds, wondering if he could slip away without waking her, but instead he decided to stay where he was. He made himself comfortable before he looked down at the peaceful face of the other girl.

Yeon had always been a good friend and senior to him, but he could never help but want something more. She however, as he had heard, had a thing for the previous Gryffindor captain, Sungyeol, who had thankfully graduated last year. Now with the other guy out of the picture and no news about the two of them being a couple of any sorts, Jaebum believed that this was the chance he had been waiting for all these years. They were partnered up for the DA, and he’d be damned if he didn’t use those lessons for something more than just learning a couple of spells.

Friday afternoon saw Hyesun sitting in the Slytherin common room with a book in her hand. She tried searching for her best friend, but it seemed that Yugyeom had disappeared into thin ear the second their last class had ended. She’d thought about looking for her brother or Jungkook only to remember that they both had Quidditch practice. In the end she’s just decided to stay in with a book while the rest of the students flooded the grounds to enjoy the last few days of sunshine.

She was half-way through the chapter she had started, completely engrossed in the tale, when the common door room slipped open and in walked a dazed Yugyeom.

“Yug?” In all the years she had known the boy, she’d never seen him as feverent as he was then. “What’s wrong?”

It was as if her voice had cast a spell off of him, immediately his eyes looked more alert as he stared into her own. “Nothing.” His voice sounded forced, the same way it always did when he told a lie. “Nothing’s wrong.”

Hyesun raised an eyebrow. She didn’t buy that, not even for a second, but she let it slip for now. Yugyeom had always been tight-lipped. If he didn’t want her to know something then she could do nothing but give him time. Instead she decided to change the subject they had been talking about. “Seungkwan called for another meeting tonight. Did you learn anything new?”

Again it was as if her words had a magical effect. Yugyeom’s eyes clouded over as he looked at her with an expression that she could only classify as fear.

“I’m not coming.”

“Why?!” Hyesun was extremely confused. Yugyeom never missed a meeting. Never. Not even when he was sick. Not even when he had homework. It just wasn’t a thing he did. They both lived for the pranksters’ club. Their friendship had even started out on their love for mischief.

“I don’t know Hyesun.” This time she couldn’t help but shudder at his tone. “Something’s going on Hye. Something much more than we ever imagined. We’re way in over our heads. Everyone is way in over their heads.”

A/N: Tbh I’v given up on all the love triangles and squares in this story. I’ll just let the characters take me where they want. So…. My exam is over! Yassssssss! But my new semester has already started T_T I HAD ALL OF FIVE FREAKING DAYS OFF… And pre-clinic is already hell, everything seems so hard and I just wanna cry already. On top of all that my laptop also keeps crashing. It’s like the whole world is against the continuation of this story T_T anyways all this was typed and updated on my phone so I apologize for all the typos/spelling mistakes/weird formatting. Also the classes have started in the story and I’m bringing in some characters from the original books. Although I was a Harry potter maniac in my childhood (kinda) I haven’t read the books for so long so there may be a great many mistakes. Pls let me know if I’ve written anything wrong >_<
Alsoooo to those who are characters in this story I need your characters patronuses for the next chapter. It needs to be an animal based on your characteristics, if you’re not sure I’ll just chose one myself xD

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!
