High School Reunion

Kyungsoo personally though that high school reunions when everyone was twenty-two was taking things too far. They were adults; they had moved on with their lives. You couldn’t cling onto being a teenager forever. At least, that was what he had thought, until he sullenly stepped onto the patio of one of his ex-classmate’s home. Listening now to their conversations, he was struck by an overwhelming feeling of helplessness:

None of them were really certain of what was going to happen to them. The town was drying up. Moving to the city was becoming the better option, but better was relative – all of them knew it would be uphill trying to make it. So this was youth, he thought, being plagued by uncertainty and trying to figure out what to do with your life.

He felt slightly arrogantly pleased with himself at the thought that he had more purpose than they did.

Kyungsoo didn’t know why he had come to the high school reunion. Perhaps it was Suho’s disappointed frown when he said he had better things to do, or the still, barely-there desire to pretend he was one of them.

Half an hour later, Kyungsoo decided it had been a terrible mistake. There was a boy there, Im Daeyoung, who Kyungsoo speculated had been born a pretentious and didn’t look like he was going to stop now. Sitting next to him was Han Seungwan, who Kyungsoo had always felt had terrible taste, maintained a futile crush on Daeyoung. Neither of them had ever been terribly fond of him.

In that moment, Daeyoung was sipping a beer and smirking faintly at Kyungsoo. “So, I hear you’re starting some sort of detective agency?” he asked abruptly, turning the attention onto the shorter boy.

Kyungsoo barely nodded, turning his glass over in his hands. He wanted to get out of there – he couldn’t even remember the names or his connections to most of these people. Daeyoung grinned smugly, pleased by the lack of response. “Don’t think you’ll find anything?”

“Not right away,” Kyungsoo responded tightly. A girl snickered.

“Are you still obsessed with your revenge thing?”

“It’s not about revenge.” Not entirely.

Chapter 34: Oh my God, what should  I say? I've been binge reading this all day. The story was great! I love your style, this is beautifully well written. I'm really glad that I stumbled upon this yesterday. And ngl this reminds me a lot of LMR era :'D Reminiscing about how crazy I was back then.
