The Humpback of Seoul

The Atypical Trainee [ENGLISH]

We were in a small room in which there were only a keyboard and a kind of mixer. SE7EN had urged us to wait here after a string of warnings like "don't do too much noise", "Not move from here until I return," and of course, the well-known " don't touch anything."
The plan was that he would meet first with the CEO paving the way, and then he would come for us to meet him, but we had not the foggiest idea how long we would have to wait there.
Tamsin sat on the floor, Isabelle in the only chair there was, next to the mixer, and I in the keyboard bench. I pressed a key absently and a G reverberate in the room.

- Can you play it, right? - Asked Tamsin, leaving the coffee to go she was taking on the floor.
- A bit. - I replied. - But I've not approach a piano since I started practicing the auditions for the school, I mean more than a year ago. And before that I only played occasionally for fun, so ...
- Actually, you don't exactly look like someone who plays the piano. - Isabelle commented with a grin. - It doesn't suits with your drama queen and femme fatale style.
- and who says it, the rebel without a cause? - I replied smiling too. - But I have to give you the reason for once, was my lovely mother who practically dragged me to the music conservatoire when I was nine.
- That has more sense.
- Come on, play something! - Said Tamsin suddenly thrilled with the idea.

I looked at her with a raised eyebrow, she really wanted me to play?

- It's not like something will happen if you play this poor and inocent keyboard... - She replied, for if my expression was due to the warnings that SE7EN made just ten minutes ago. - It's not like if we were to play with that thing. - He noted the mixer as if it were alien technology. - Come on, come on!
- I've already said that I don't play since a century ago, and I can assure you it wasn't like if I were Beethoven either... At the most, maybe I could remember some Disney song.

The huge blue eyes of Tamsin practically glowed emotion. She looked like a child in Christmas morning.

- Disney? Really? - Izzy let out a laugh.

A little animated at the prospect, I got in position with a confident smile, and the Broadway style chords of 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' soon flooded the room. No, I wasn't 'romantic ballads' type.

- It was clear that you would be in the 'team villains'. - Izzy said just before I started singing.

And although I started singing softly, at the end of the song I was totally into my role of Ursula and enjoying as if it were a real spectacle.

- Beluga sevruga eats winds of the Caspian Sea! Larengix glaucitis et max laryngitis, la Volce to me.. - I turned my head to look at Tamsin. - Now, sing!

It was then that I realized we were not alone in the room.
The girls realized too that I had stopped playing and Tamsin interrupted the Ariel's chant to follow the direction of my gaze. A guy who didn't look much older than us, was watching us with an unreadable expression from the doorway. The three of us kept in silence weirdly looking at him, not sure what to do or what to say. It was impossible to guess for how long he had been there.
Then the guy said something, something that we obviously didn't understood.

- Excuse me? - Tamsin ventured.
- Who are you? - He repeated in English.

Good question, Who are we? Three students from London amid erroneous holidays and willing to audition for a Korean music label after being approached in a karaoke by a drunk idol. Very logical and believable, huh?

- Mhm... Seven has brought us. - I answered instead. - He asked us to wait for him here.

The stranger frowned and looked at us with suspicion, but just then, came a second boy approached him patting him on the shoulder amicably. It seemed that he was asking something, but he quickly repaired in our presence and joined the round of weird looks. They talked each other a little without stop looking at us, which wasn't very good manners considering that more than half of those present did not understand a word of what they were saying. But ok, being caught playing the keyboard that previously had been forbidden  you to approach neither was the best example of good manners. Still, I could well imagine the conversation:

"Who are these gals?"
"I do not know. I think they are three stalkers that have crept here chasing Seven
. "

However...

- Can you play something else? - Asked the first one.
- What? - I did not try to hide my astonishment.
- I said that if ...
- We've heard perfectly. - said Isabelle. - Of course she "can play something else", who do you think we are?

"Three crazy fans" I thought, and then glared at Isabelle. I did not feel like being bumped from there as criminals. However, they do not called security, or threatened to denounce us, not even the least altered expression.

- Please, go ahead. - He said with a defiant smile.

And fortunately or not I couldn't not to respond to a provocation, so his arrogant gesture was all I needed. I held his gaze for a few seconds, making it clear that he couldn't intimidate me so easily, and then I concentrated on keys hoping that lack of practice was not too obvious.
When I started playing 'Hellfire', of 'The Hunchback of Notredame', I was so concentrated that for a moment forgot where I was and how absurd and incomprehensible that was that situation. Unlike the previous one, this was a song for a male voice but had always seemed to me that it was equally impressive sung by a woman. So ... I just got carried away by music. Maybe too much.

- Hellfire, dark fire, now gypsy it's your turn! Choose me or your pyre, be mine or you will burn!

And even Frollo would have been proud, because when the last 'burn' got out of my mouth, I realized that with all this excitement, I would probably had been heard in all South Korea and half of the North.
Trying to hide the sudden wave of shame that was invading me, I turned just to find that, oh, surprise! I had more public than before. Great.

- Girl, It was amazing! - Tamsin cried, breaking the overall atmosphere of stupefaction.

Izzy agreed with a brief nod, and I was pleased to discover that the boy had challenged me, also seemed astonished (for better or worse). Behind him stood the other boy and the recent additions, SE7EN and a middle-aged man with a cap and an inscrutable face that could only be the CEO. The first coughed slightly and stepped toward me after a few seconds of dead silence and scrutinizing looks.

-  I introduce you Yang Hyun-Suk. - He said, and on this occasion I bowed. The man was a little intimidating and I didn't want to seem rude. - She is Natasha Reid, and they're Isabelle Bartlett and Tamsin Stokes. - Said Se7en respectively. Then he turned to the two guys. - Well, and they are G-Dragon and Taeyang, though I actually don't know what they are doing here.

Both bowed their heads.

- I think it's the first time anyone auditioned with a song from Disney. - Said Yang Hyun-Suk with a neutral tone, speaking for the first time.

I swallowed. Nothing in his expression made glimpse what was going through his mind, so it was impossible to know if that was good or bad. I knew that all of this was a sham and we obviously were not going to become the next star in Korea, but real or not, my pride wouldn't let me make a bad audition. I was good. Tamsin was good. Isabelle was good. And we three knew it.

- I didn't know this was an audition. - I said, lifting the chin. - When I make one, at least I like to know that I'm making it, you know?
- Oh, and is there anything else in your repertoire that you want to show us? - He asked after a laugh.

I swallowed again.
Damn, I was letting him intimidate me!

- Of course she has much more to show - Isabelle took the lead. - I Recognize that the Frolla shtick has been quite impressive, but trust me, it doesn't make the slightest justice to this bombshell. If you want to know what is good you should watch us perform 'Cell Block Tango' from 'Chicago'. This gal is the best ing Velma around London, don't be fooled by the blond hair.
- Iz! - Tamsin mumbled. - Enough!

And this time I also wished she would have bitten her tongue. However, the CEO did not seem undeterred.

- I can't wait to watch it. - He replied.

Isabelle gave a hint of a triumphant smile and I recovered all the initiative. 'Cell Block Tango' was our song, there was no possibility that not killing it. We liked it because it allowed us to show the vocal skills of each one, as well as dance skills - and even performing. It was a complete number that fitted like a glove to our register, even more than the 'Lady Marmalade' had captivated SE7EN the night before.

- Can we stay? - Then asked G-Dragon, who had not opened his mouth since the provocation. It was evident that whole mess had aroused his interest.

And apparently it was not the only one. When we were guided to a much larger room than the one before, few people had joined us too. Everyone seemed expectant.

Several pop, six, squish, uh uh, Cicero and lipschitz later we were in the office of Yang Hyunsuk where the unthinkable happened.
Three YG Entertainment contracts were placed in front of us.

N/A: Ugh! Translating this chapter took me hours! I had to start all over again when I was at the middle D: I almost kill someone hahaha
About the chapter, ok, I know that is quite boring but every story needs a start and I want everything to make sense later haha
The idea of using ‘Hellfire’ came to me due to hear an amazing female cover on youtube, and I also wanted an audition totally out of the norm (like almost everything in this fanfic haha), so...
Well, I hope you’d liked it! Thanks for subscribing <3

Chapter 4: another great chapter. this is currently my favorite read.
hmm...my vote goes to possibly one secondary pairing, as long as it doesn't get tons of focus. if too many characters come in and get involved, it gets long and boring to me.

Chapter 3: I didn't think it was boring at all. It was different, which is good. I'm going to look forward to more, hope it doesn't give you too much trouble translating.

Chapter 1: Have confidence in your English skills, it was easy to read and follow. Not to mention interesting and fun. And even though I wasn't looking for them, I only stumbled on the English once, which could just as easily been a typo. Good job!
