Description
Inaccurate historical au in which Baekhyun has a rival, Yixing is perfect and Jongdae is a heartbreaker… or in which Baekhyun is jealous, Luhan is oblivious, Yixing is still perfect and Jongdae still breaks hearts.
Main Characters
Kim Jongdae – MinAh's best friend and first love, a person she thought she had lost forever… until he returns, after ten years of disappearance, to reclaim her heart. His family was exiled from the country on suspicion of treason, forcing him to leave but he swore to return and take her away.
Zhang Yixing – The only guy after Jongdae to catch her eye, the reclusive second prince of their neighboring country, in hiding because of the rising tensions in his country and the threat to his life, travelling under the identity of his closest friend and advisor, Lord Lu Han.
Byun BaekHyun – Best friends with MInAh, very talented, very popular and an unrepentant flirt, well known for his rakish ways amongst the ladies; harbors very sincere feelings for MaeRi.
Do KyungSoo – Best friends with MinAh, smart, cool, calm and collected, the brainiest member of their childhood pirate gang and perhaps the only man aware of Jongdae's current predicament, works with the Navy as a favor to the crown.
Im MinAh – The heroine. A wallflower, bookish, very interested in arts and music, very talented, charming in a quiet, shy way. A bit of a tomboy, which sort of comes with being best friends with the boys.
Im MaeRi – Baekhyun's love interest, someone who can actually rival him in popularity and talent, likes to have him chase after her so keeps him on his toes despite returning his feelings. Opposite of MinAh but very loving towards her sister.
Other characters:
Kim MinSeok - a family friend and one-time suitor for MinAh, ambassador from the crown, highly influential; currently charged with keeping the royalty from their neighboring country safe.
Lu Han – Yixing's best friend and advisor, member of the nobility, has kindly lent his identity to the prince and is acting as a stand-in, in case someone threatens his life. Engaged and VERY protective of his fiancée, Lady Yi.
Other members of EXO, other kpop artists in different roles as needed.
The story is told as a narration, in first person view by MinAh, with occasional lapses into third person to fill in the gaps when 1st person POV is not enough.
There are no countries or places named and quite honestly, nothing like a time line – if I were to specify, I'd say the story is set somewhere in between the Victorian and Regency era but quite honestly, I just wanted to write something set in the old times. My knowledge about dances, nobility and other historical stuff comes solely from the fiction I've read so far. I did not write this to be accurate, so don't expect that – frankly, I just wanted see my baes in old fashion and talking with stiff English accents XD
I hope you guys will enjoy the story. I am still writing it and the updates might be slow but I really wanted to do something special for our Chennie Chenchen's birthday, so here it is – a birthday present for Kim Jongdae.

Foreword
SNEAK PEEK
The first time we kissed, we were saying goodbye.
I think part of the reason why I couldn't even consider anyone else was that – I'd given my first kiss to Jongdae and it felt wrong not to wait for him, wrong to even think about anyone else but him.
I cursed him a time or two… okay, maybe a bit more than that but honestly, because I missed him so much.
Why did he have to go and kiss me just when he was leaving? When we both knew there was little – if any – chance of his ever coming back?
I still hung on to that for eight years.
A lifetime, in the words of ever-wise (read smart aleck) Byun Baekhyun.
It wasn't really a surprise to anyone – except my mom, perhaps – that I refused to even consider any of my numerous (read few) suitors. She was despairing for me as it was – after all, quiet, studious and reclusive were not what most men looked for in a bride. They wanted vibrant, loud. Not me.
It worked perfectly for me because I wasn't looking for anyone but Jongdae either.
Sadly, though, my wait was in vain.
He'd promised me a year – a year in which he would come back with all the wealth his family had lost so he could court me properly. I still had the silly metal hoop he'd given me in lieu of a ring, I'd worn it the first few months we'd parted but eventually, my parents had tired of entertaining my strange flights of fancy and I'd retreated to putting it in my chain, wearing it close to my heart.
It wasn’t until the spring of the eighth year that I decided to stop waiting.
But only because the dead couldn't come back.
