Experience: JiHyun has been studying musical theory for quite some time (ever since his freshman year of high school), and was set on being a composer initially. But he was always frustrated because singers/dancers/rappers always have there own interpretation and it was consistently different than what he felt his music should sound and feel like. Thus, he began training when he was a freshman in high school in order to show his own color and philosophies to. the world. Music is important to JiHyun because he loves the lack of prejudice people have when it concerns music. People are far more open to try new styles of music than to meet a new person, when in reality, listening to someone's music is like seeing a bit of their soul. He believes that music is essential to everyone, regardless of whether or not they actively pursue music.

Personality:
The most controversial guy you’ll ever meet. When you first meet him, he really seems like a heartless soul, but he also cries easily over Korean dramas and owns a ton of cute things. 0_0 So charismatic on stage and never messes up, a perfectionist when practicing, but otherwise seems to find it hard to find his own two feet stable. Someone who loves sunny days on the beach, but otherwise absolutely despises the sun. Loves it when little kids and old people ask for his autograph, but avoids fans his age…

But he is always:

Self-driven and a perfectionist, but otherwise incredibly lazy. Once he finds his passion and once he’s given a task, there’s no looking back. Time doesn’t exist, and neither does food. He just keeps at it. His dedication is probably what saves him from being a 24-7 derp, because when he’s not at it 110%, he’s totally laid back, chilled, and hates to move at all. His room is always a mess of books, CDs, and clothes.

Not a lot of facial expressions, but laughs wholeheartedly and cries easily. His expression 95% of the time is something between totally bored or smirking arrogantly, but when he laughs along with everybody, his laugh is always the loudest, and when he finds something sad, he’s probably the first (and only) guy to cry in the audience or group. On stage, he unconsciously makes a lot of y facial expressions. <3

So yes, he has his derpy moment, but he rarely gets caught. When he’s surprised, he looks like a big gaping fish! But he rarely gets surprised, so… ^^

Always bro-mancing, but doesn’t want a serious relationship with a girl.

Like a lot of male idols, he finds it easy and nothing serious to smooch a fellow boy member on the lips or wrap his arms around them, but he is undeniably uncaring and awkward with girl members. He respects girls a lot, but he doesn’t care for a serious relationship with a girl yet because he has ridiculously high standards for a girl.

Awkward at first sight. He’s somewhat shy, and rather awkward at first introduction. He either doesn’t make eye contact with you or makes intense eye contact and you feel like your head will catch on fire. Either his handshake is really loose or it’s super tight, so, he tends to avoid strangers.

Fits in well with those older and younger than him, but has a hard time connecting to those his age. He loves kids, and kids love him. He’’s extremely respectful and easy-going with old people, but he isn’t sure what to do with someone his own age. Should he address them formally, or be easy-going? Would it be rude to make a joke right now…? Is he too mean? So usually, he just wears an awkward smile, deals with it as fast as he can, and gets the hell out of there.

Academically Intelligent. Before he wanted to be a musician/idol, his dream was to become a rocket scientist. Thus, he had to work his off at mathematics and sciences to get close to it. Ironically, it wasn’t listening to music so much as the alternative class he had to take, music theory that made him want to do music. Yes, music theory made him interested in music.

He tries to be understanding with people, especially those close to him, but he is impatient. He cannot stand whiny people who don’t do anything about it. He’ll usually tell them to do something or shut the hell up.

Other than his determination, academic intelligence, passion for music, he is a normal, headstrong, and very prideful and independent teen.

  Even if he tries to act more serious on stage/reality TV, he ends up reverting back to himself. He just cannot help it. Of course, on stage, he is, as well as s, serious, focused, and charismatic. To his fellow group members, JiHyun is a chill but extremely lazy dongsaeng, or a loving and aegyo-filled hyung. Either way, he's always bro-mancing. As for the female members, he's slightly awkward with them at first, but gradually becomes very open and teasing towards them as well. But JiHyun never fakes anything to try to impress someone- music is his everything right now, and he doesn't get embarassed or nervous around s (even females) because he isn't looking for any kind of relationship. He's there for the music, but is willing to get along with s and enjoy their company and looking forward to working with all of them. Of course, he is going to get more than he bargained for. ;3

Background:  
Kim JiHyun was born in Busan, South Korea, to two very happy parents. He lived there until he was eight years old, and then they had to move to Detroit, Michigan, because his father was a marketing agent, and was required to move every so often. At Detroit, JiHyun grew up, learning American customs and English language. But what JiHyun experienced the most at Detroit was the hip hop culture; he often witnessed rap and dance battles on the street. But the violence of Detroit made drugs and such disgusting to him. Then, at age twelve, they had to move back. He was enrolled at Chum Dang High School, which featured mathematics the most. JiHyun loved doing Mathematics and Science, and his mother, who was a Lab Scientist, helped him to understand his studies. But the requirement was one year of some kind of art/music. JiHyun protested against, but was enrolled in Music Theory. He found the class extremely easy, but he also began to love it. Although his parents were initially against it, once JiHyun convinced them it was his passion, they supported him wholeheartedly and lovingly, paying for all kinds of private lessons

As soon as he finished high school at age 17, he auditioned with a ballad, a short break dance segment, and a small rap segment. He placed 4^th out of 2,500 and was accepted into SM Entertainment. At SM Entertainment, he quickly rose up the ranks, but SM was unable to find him a place within a group. His intensity and awkwardness made the SM President hesitant to debut him. Also, JiHyun also usually practiced the type of dance and song that he wanted, and rebelled against the SM President a lot. JiHyun modeled, acted, and often was a back-up at SM, but his refusal to do anything but his own music was a problem at SM. SM kept him away from compositional lessons, wanting JiHyun to conform instead of producing his own music. JiHyun refused. Thus, he was about to be dropped when the YG President asked to transfer him. After 1 year at SM, JiHyun was transferred to YG, where he further expanded his compositional skills and other skills. JiHyun was a lot happier at YG, and although he came close to failing and having to come home (even his parents knew he was about to be kicked out), he was able to succeed through YG in the end.

Idols: Tablo of Epik High. Because Tablo was someone who threw away the prejudices of genres and extremely honestly and wholeheartedly wrote his own music for his own enjoyment and for his own self-fullfilment. And still, with this stubbornly different color, Tablo was able to succeed on his own and create a name for himself. He also is able to maintain his friendships while being ambitious, something many idols struggle with. JiHyun wants to become famous for his own color as well.

Who is Your Character Most Like? Personality-wise, a combination of Tablo and Seungri. Always striving to be true to himself like Tablo, and adamant about always staying real, but like Seungri, slightly awkward and always chill and loving to laugh. In terms of vocals, he is a mix of Yesung's power vocals and Yoseob's sweet flower-boy vocal. His rapping style is a mix of G-Dragon's snazzy voice and Zico's straightforward, but keep-to-the-rhythm rap. Dancewise, he learned pop and acrobatics like Jay Park while watching dance batlles in Detroit and learned a smoother style of dance, like DBSK's Yunho while training to become an idol.
