Poppy has set her future in stone. And much to her parents dislike, it had nothing to do with dark magic. But Poppy didn't care. She wanted to become the minister of magic. What do you say? That she should stop dreaming and come back to reality? Well excuse us, but no. She is terrified of what is going on at the moment and the awful job that the ministry is doing and set her goal to fulfill it. And with all her ambition and intelligence that got her to become one of the top students in Hogwarts, she will continue until she has that position.
Coming to a conclusion, that the last paragraph might have made her come off a bit tough... well yeah she is. She is not for putting things into nice words and is totally blunt in her way of thinking and speaking. She will tell people straight away if they can go .. you know themselves if they get on her wrong side. (Her parents are the most people to suffer from it, as much as the Slytherins)
All in all, her constant good performance in school makes her be a bit greedy for more. Especially potions class with Lily can sometimes turn into a contest and tends to attract the attention of the whole class, including Slughorn. (Lily usually wins those and we do NOT like it.) She can be quiet stubborn if things don't go how she wants and tends to be very impatient on others but also on herself (not getting a text segment while reading it for the first time reading).
But in contrary to all those crazy little habits that do make her somewhat (or a little bit) adorable, she has a heart for other people and outsiders. She bonded with Lily over the missing love they receive from home, she helps and tutors other students who come to her for help and most of all, she hates when people get bullied or mistreated. She has a good sense of humor and likes to laugh at jokes. She likes when Potter and the others pull pranks and laughs at them as well, but only if the person deserves it. She hates harassing of innocent people and will tell everyone straight away if they've gone too far.

PAST — Poppy was born into a pureblood family, consisting of her parents and her six-year older sister Dahlia. Her parents are strong believers of the pureblood family superiority and worshippers of dark magic. Of course, all family members, reaching back for more than Poppy wanted to remember were exactly the same. She comes from a line of well known, powerful and proud Slytherins - pureblood heritage and soon they all seemed to wonder how Poppy became so different. She started asking way too many questions as to why they loath muggle-borns and muggles, disagreeing to all the reasons and preachers that had been told for generations. She never seemed to understand the ideology and soon grew to become the black sheep of the family.
After a few years of more tried brainwashing her parents seemed to give up on her. Luckily, the Sallow's didn't really care for torturing each other or banning them as other wizard families do. She was although constantly standing in the shadow of her elder sister, who was a perfect copy of her parent's beliefs. But Poppy knew in her heart she was doing the right thing, even if it costs her all the appreciation from home.
To everyone's relief, she was sorted into Slytherin at her first year at Hogwarts, which made her gain a little creditability from her parents. She knew that every other house was unacceptable, so no matter how much she hated the thought of being sorted into Slytherin, she asked the Sorting Hat to do it nevertheless. To give her family at least that little bit of ease through it, to make compromises for both sides. She worked her off in school, to become someone who could change all those beliefs. She wanted to do good in the world and stop all the pureblood nonsense. Her parents, knowing her goal to become a politician, are fine with her choice for now and she knows that it's only because they hope that she will switch sides one day and support them from the ministry.

He might not be in her face as often as the other ones, but those once in a while accusations hurt. Quality over quantity. He has some kind of dark power over her that she doesn't understand. She has no idea if it is the way he talks, his tone or the dark energy that he radiates, but it makes her shiver. Therefore, he is the only one in school she fears.
