hong jihaeng is everyone's rival, the antagonist of all the self-claimed protagonists out there. that is because she is the most arrogant girl you have ever seen, the moment she walks into the room, everything's about her, jihaeng sees no one other than herself and she knows she's the star of the show, the center of the room but she's going to try even harder to achieve something even bigger. she obviously doesn't pay attention to anyone unless they are better than her, which makes her even harder to like. she's tactless and jihaeng looks down on other people, even if one's much older than her, she is still going to show some disrespect.
she takes the whole idol thing seriously so therefore, an ambitious girl with a competitive heart was born. she knows what she wants and she will have it. it makes other people either hate her or admire her for how good she already is but still trying to make herself look better or she's just simply doing what she loves.
to her, becoming an idol means that you have to be good at everything so if a trainee's bad at singing or dancing while she understands why someone might not be good at rapping, that just sounds ridiculous, don't you think? hence, she hates those who are useless. she doesn't even have to speak, one can tell that she doesn't respect them. and you want her respect? get better. you don't want her to come to you and tell you directly that you weren't born to share the same spotlight with her which she does daily. yes, jihaeng will tell people that they need to try harder and spend more time practicing rather than doing their useless hobbies. wow, rude! and she isn't anyone's mother to tell them what to do but she's better than them so she gets to say that and is she wrong? she talks about people and she doesn't care if they do the same back, she even makes fun of them. jihaeng brings out the worst side of someone.
she is very harsh towards other people but jihaeng's actually an outgoing and loud girl around her friends or trainees that are as the same level as her. it's like you how are so distant towards the person you hate and how cheerful you are around the person you like. like a cheerleader who only smiles at other cheerleaders and hot jocks, other people aren't really her type if they are not as famous as she is. a girl who knows how to have fun, a girl who teases the hell out of people and cracks playful jokes, the girl who acts like a stubborn and mischievous princess and the atmosphere's definitely wild when she's around but she'll never show that awesome side of hers to most of them.
the thing is, she's still a child after all so she has really childish thoughts, that includes looking down on those who aren't qualified enough. she likes pranks and can be highkey violent or not really, just a wild kid who can be very.. brash. childish, yes. so she often gets criticized for her childish behavior. a child who hasn't seen the bigger picture of the world yet so she doesn't put herself in other people's perspective but she definitely doesn't come off as an ignorant little girl like she seems to be because jihaeng just doesn't care about anyone's feelings at all.
in summarisation, hong jihaeng is the epitome of a perfect idol but not a perfect example for a friend you would want to have. she despises other trainees and she treats them like trash but once she has considered you as her friend, she loves you so much she would do anything to make you happy although she might be insensitive at times. however, hong jihaeng is still a girl with more flaws, all she needs is a good character development or it might get worse once she's in the industry officially as an idol.

the kids didn't really like jihaeng although their parents and teachers praised her a lot, asking them why couldn't they become like her. all the time, it happened all the time.
born with a silver spoon in , hong jihaeng was, as expected, a spoiled brat. she never had to touch anything since they had a housekeeper to do the housework. the teachers never dared to raise their voice at her since jihaeng's parents came over to their houses and gave them presents every special occassion, it wasn't strange to find jihaeng's grades were surprisingly high. it wasn't strange to find everyone looking at her with hope in their eyes, maybe they were wishing that she would talk to them, maybe they were wishing that one day they would become her when they woke up, maybe one day... one day the crown on her head would be taken away so she could stop being so arrogant.
but jihaeng knew that wasn't the truth.
she really was an intelligent kid, her parents were known as successful and smart people, why would it sound strange if their daughter was as intelligent as them? why did people have to spread rumors that she was dumb as hell and the hong family had to use money in everything? she didn't need anyone to save her grades and even if the results weren't like what she expected, she wouldn't make a big deal about it and she just simply didn't care because there would always be a next exam for her to do and improve. what did they mean by calling her useless? arrogant? insensible?
just because they had a housekeeper didn't mean that she touched nothing. she cleaned up her room on her own, she even helped the housekeeper and her parents praised her for that. they thought she was arrogant because she talked to no one? that was because people only talked to her about topics that never really caught her interest, trying to talk fashion and boys, perhaps they were thinking of forming a rich girls squad but no thanks. see? that was exactly why jihaeng closed herself from other kids, making her look arrogant. ever since she was in elementary school, jihaeng only kept a small circle of friends for herself.
she had been mistaken for whole her life. and she hated it. she hated being looked down on, she hated being called useless. did they even know what a useless person is really like? then, jihaeng developed hatred for those who weren't as good as her. they dared to compare her to those trash cans, they were all blind... she thought to herself, all the time.
during her years as a secondary school student, jihaeng got interested in kpop and since she joined a lot of performances when she was younger, she had a lot of experience in dancing so it wouldn't be strange to find jihaeng easily covering a random group's choreography. in her high school years, she worked with the dance teachers to think of a choreography for students to perform in special occassions. in the country that has half of its citizens pursuing their careers as idols, people began to predict that she would become an idol one day. jihaeng denied at first but then she thought to herself: she could sing, she could rap and she could dance so why not?
at age seventeen, she auditioned at sm entertainment but they rejected her and it was shocking since she thought they would choose her without a doubt. she was feeling embarrassed about that so jihaeng told no one about it but people know her so the news of her being rejected soon became a topic for her school. "i thought she really has the talent but... guess not!" and that really pissed her off because she really is talented.
jihaeng wanted to prove that so she went for another audition again. this time, at bighit entertainment, though not as famous as the big three and not what everyone wished to see her work for, she wanted to give it a try, to test herself, to prove that she could become an idol. also, bighit entertainment was making its way to the top, bangtan boys was climbing on the top kpop star list so it wasn't that bad to become a trainee at bighit! and this time, she got in.
at age seventeen, she became a trainee at bighit entertainment and after a while, project lunation happened.

mihyun is jihaeng's best friendsi. both have known each other since they were born and she's the sweetest girl ever. they went to school together, drew together, learned to swim together, they did everything together and they always stick together as if they are glued but now that jihaeng's becoming an idol, she gets busier so the two of them don't meet up as much as they used to did in the past but still, they text each other and support everything their bestie is doing.

jaemin and jihaeng have known each other since both were in middle school and you're right, they shared the same class. they were very close as jaemin sat behind jihaeng and always teased the hell out of each other. while jihaeng had been dancing like crazy back then, jaemin was still not interested in becoming an idol until one day, he was casted while working at a volunteering event and when he told jihaeng about that, she laughed really hard because him? the idiotic and ridiculous na jaemin becoming an idol? and jaemin shrugged, he even encouraged her to become an idol and go for the same company as him but she refused. the thing was, she actually doubted his abilities and told jaemin to quit but he did not! and he told her he would make it which he really did! anyways, after that jihaeng had been all sulky around jaemin, even more sulky after she didn't get in sm but jaemin understood how stubborn she was so he gave her some great advice and contacted her daily from the day she prepared for her audition at bighit to the day when she's going to stand on stage. they are close friends and jihaeng likes to bully jaemin because one, he wouldn't dare to make her mad and two, she enjoys his face when she pretends to be mad.

AUDITION jihaeng auditioned at sm entertainment at first, performing snsd's gee but was rejected. a few months later, bighit entertainment was open for audition. this time, she prepared her own choreography, dancing to yoncé by beyoncé and was accepted for her powerful movements.
TRAINING in every class, you hear coaches compliment her for how well she is able to catch up with everything and jihaeng was well-known among the trainees for a reason. she's proud to say that she didn't have a hard time training because she did a great job. jihaeng learned the new dance quicker than most of the trainees and with powerful as well as flexible movements, dancing class was always her favorite. the coaches were very satisfied with how she controlled her facial expression professionally as well and they would take her as an example that other trainees should look up to and follow after.
she has a stable vocal, therefore she didn't meet many drawbacks during her trainee days but not everyone's perfect and her voice is rather light so if you give her a song that is so vocally heavy, she wouldn't make it sound perfect, not entirely bad but just not as good as expected (a real example from chungha's why don't you know). however, she was still considered as a good vocalist by many and she sings really amazing if given a song that suits her voice and technique so she was trained like that. about rapping, she was set to focus more on the two other skills but she did train in rapping for a while and did a fairly great job.
overall, she was one of the best trainees at that time and didn't meet much pressure during the training period. she was a hard-working trainee even though she was already good, as if she wanted nobody to be better than her...
