biryeong doesn't speak much of her past, not even to the closest friends she have because she knows that no matter what she says, people will always think of the same thought: she is much luckier than those poor kids out there who have to sleep in the cold without a shelter at night, she has no right to complain nor to wish for a better life.

both of hwang biryeong's parents, hwang jaerim and yang saeah are influential individuals in mokpo as the family owns the city's most famous restaurant that solves both traditional and foreign food with an expensive menu though it's a reasonable price for each meal that only the rich of mokpo could afford to pay. many business men or the filthy rich ones of mokpo book a table here for either a business meeting disgused as dinner, a birthday party or just a weekend night out with the family.
living a lavish lifestyle since birth, biryeong has no reason to complain but living with a family whose opinions and ways of raising their children are highly old-fashioned and traditional is much tougher than one could imagine. little biryeong has to be a perfect girl even before she could walk — she must know at least how to play an instrumental and be talented at something, have some artistic senses in her, she must be good at math and literature, excelling at every subject in her school. no boys, no dating, no dressing like a and she must tell her parents about everything that is happening in her life.
the wost part? she couldn't control her own life, her future had been planned ahead by her parents. one day, she was going to study at one of the top universities in seoul and she would become a doctor with high income when she finally graduates. biryeong believed so, too, until that one faithful day when she was picked for a dancing performance before school.
she is a natural, from the way she twirls around to the confident expression she wears on her face. everyone, even the instructors, her teachers and classmates admitted that. biryeong realized her love for dancing when she was nine years old but couldn't really do much about it, and then came the first appearance of girls' generation — the legends of the kpop industry was first introduced before the public in 2007.
her parents, of course, didn't like the girl group. they said it was such an absurd idea and any parent who allows their daughter to wear short skirts on stage doesn't deserve to be called a parent which only elaborated how terrible this career would look like to them in their daughter's eyes but for a moment, biryeong thought of something.
she wanted to be like those female idols on stage. talented and pretty, channeling their bright energy to the audience through the powerful dance movements and their sweet smiles. each of them looked so confident on the stage even though it was their first performance — the look of happiness, knowing that they were doing what they love the most.
biryeong felt that she could understand them, somehow. every night before dinner, she would lock the door and practiced their choreography. the young girl would pretend that she was standing on stage with the microphone in her arm, and that she was performing proudly in front of the audience that was born for her. her audience, because biryeong would charm them on her own!
at school, she and a group of close friends who were both into idols would form a small kpop cover group and it started with them covering snsd's songs to dbsk, bigbang, t-ara and kara... old school kpop, good old times. but it was just only a hobby since biryeong was quite positive that her parents would never let her look like those idols on stage. every night when the tutor they hired to teach biryeong would sit by her side and scold her if she couldn't solve a problem, she felt like so tired. she wanted to give up, just going to sleep and forgetting everything...
then came an audition held right here in the city. hosted by pledis entertainment. the group of friends promised to try out together so biryeong lied to her parents that she was only studying at a friend's when in fact, she wasn't.
and then the worst thing happened. a daughter of a family's friend recognized her and told her parents about that. words traveled around fast, and it was time the hwang family knew. disappointed in their daughter, they grounded biryeong and even contacted her friends' parents, telling them to learn some things themselves to raise their daughters right as they were having the most ridiculous and craziest dreams. couldn't handle their selfishness anymore, biryeong finally cracked open her own shell and for the first time, she revealed who she really was to them: not soft-spoken, obedient and kind as they wanted to be.
she was the worst daughter one could have ever asked for. yelled at her parents, calling them idiots and airheads for never understanding her and wish that they were dead instead of giving birth to her. that was one of her biggest mistake... she didn't mean any of that.
after that, they didn't care about her anymore. biryeong felt guilty for making her mother cry but when her dad said that she could leave the house, do whatever she wanted to do and never come back... she left the house. not a problem, she passed the audition so she would have a place to stay. at fifteen, hwang biryeong traveled to seoul on her own with her saved money, without any friends or a family member by her side. she tried her best, she really did, only to be told that she wasn't what they were looking for after a year of shedding blood, sweat and tears.
upon receiving her phonecall, her mother and younger brother came to seoul to meet her. she cried like a little child in her mother's arms, knowing that she had failed at everything and feeling even worse to meet her mother after all these months not giving the woman a single call and apologized properly for what she had done.
but she was forgiven. father was still mad at her but biryeong's mom already forgave her. not only so but mommy and little bro were both very supportive of her decision of becoming an idol so they promised to stay in seoul with biryeong, renting an apartment until another company accept her. fortunately, bighit was opening its door for new talents and here came another chance for biryeong.
a week later, she was accepted. seeing them off at the airport, biryeong fought back the tears as she coyly smiled at them. sure, her family is still very traditional and judgmental and all... but at least they have faith in her. even though her father still won't talk to biryeong, she knows that one day, she will all of them proud.
"i will never disappoint you anymore." said the girl as she hugged her mother and brother tightly.
still, it scares her. it feels like there is no more secret between them... but biryeong's hiding something that is much even darker to the family. to the hwangs, nothing would be more terrifying than finding out that their daughter isn't normal.

( it explains why the members hear a lot of her screaming when she's showering ) but the bathroom is her thinking booth. it doesn't end there, she can even think of a dance movement while taking a poop and it's when the members hear her shouting again but in excitement, "eureka!"
uwuTWELVE. sings english version of disney songs randomly when they're in the waiting room, on the car, before bedtime, during breakfast... another biryeong thing. it's amazing how she remembers nearly every single song from aladdin, mulan, the little mermaid, frozen (obviously), tangled and beauty and the beast.
uwuTHIRTEEN. the rumors of her liking girls are just assumptions ( but pretty much everyone who has some sort of relationship with biryeong knows about this, even her family though she promised them that she's "normal" ) since she's never seen with a boy before, never once mentioned her ideal type and described a guy,... yet is always seen hugging and kissing her members, even pecking on their lips ( the members want to kill her afterwards ngl ) and talking about pretty girls so fans are like ??? quite positive that she's either bi or a lesbian. it doesn't help when she keeps agreeing to marry the fans at fansigns... ❏；BIRYEONG AS A TRAINEE ’、ever since she was still a pledis trainee, she's been known as that one talented trainee with marvelous dancing skills. not only so, but it was extremely easy to talk to her as she was, and is, such a friendly girl! it was such a shame that pledis let her go but their loss, not hers! since biryeong had more chances to shine after becoming a bighit trainee. the dance instructors immediately realized her potential and continued to train her into a better dancing machine while she did her best to balance out the vocal lessons as well. many female trainees would come looking for biryeong, knowing how generous she is and asked her to help them with their dancing improvement. actually, she was both famous among the male and female trainees!
