han chaeryung entered this world on the 16th of may 1992 as the eldest daughter of han jaejoong and kim mijoo. initially, her family lived in incheon the first four years of her life but then her father got offered a high-ranking job at the samsung hq in seoul and accepted so their entire family packed up and moved to seoul. first moving to seoul, chaeryung was a shy little girl. she mostly spent her time with the family maid. she rarely saw relatives or hung out with people her age. slowly, she made friends in school and slowly opened up. by the time her sister came along, she was your average bubbly kid.
eight years after she was born, her parents gave her the greatest gift ever. a baby sister named han chaerin. with their parents constantly working, jaejoong as the cfo of samsung group and mijoo as a lawyer, they never had a lot of time for their kids which makes one wonder why they even bothered having kids. anyways, growing up, chaeryung was super close to chaerin. chaeryung took care and looked after her sister more than their parents did. she loved her baby sister a lot and would do anything for her especially since chaerin's health was never the best. despite their large , the sisters were extremely close to each other. finishing high school, chaeryung applied to the international relations course as she loved learning new languages and new things about various countries. her sister was also the reason she chose to minor in french as chaerin loved old french movies.
when chaeryung was 22, her baby sister was diagnosed with brain cancer. it devastated her. the doctor said it was fortunate that the cancer was grade two so there was a high probability of recovery. he gave them hope. hope which would then be slowly broken down over the years. that year was the beginning of the endless trips to the hospital. chaerin was her guardian and constant companion on the hospital trips. chaeryung began to cut down on her university classes to accompany chaerin more. just when they saw the glimmer of recovery six months later, chaerin fainted in school. it turned out the cancer reoccurred and had progressed to grade three and was even more aggressive. finally, two years later, chaerin couldn't hold on anymore. the doctors had said it was a miracle she had managed to last this long with cancer that aggressive but it was finally time to go. chaerin passed when chaeryung was at her graduation so she couldn't even see her for the last time. her parents decided that her graduation was more important so the only person by chaerin's side was the family maid who watched the two girls grow. chaeryung rushed over to the hospital after the ceremony but was too late.
over the period of constant hospital visits, chaeryung had to constantly act strong for her sister. it was tiring enough for her so she couldn't bear to let chaerin see her upset. her sister was the kind of person who was easily affected by the mood of those around her, she was just a little girl. when chaerin died, she cried an ocean's worth of tears. from that day onwards, she vowed to not cry anymore. their family cremated her and spread her ashes over the jeju ocean, it was what she wanted. but chaeryung took a little of the ash to be made into a necklace.
